I think there was a good job with the foreshadowing of what the attack could have been up to. People don't have to outright state traps they have set up if it can reasonably be assumed that the trap could have been set...and of course, near instantaneous melting of thick layers of stone is the part most called into question.
Wait a minute. Did Raln fire his mist bullet yet in your post or is this attack interrupting him beforehand? I just sat down to post and realized I had no idea.

EDIT: I'm going to get a post ready assuming he hadn't and by attack, you mean Raln rushing forward.
Well, I believe we changed to a shorter posting time, and Vordak is somewhat overdue.

Frankly I can't be assed to nag people anymore, if GM's can't be bothered to sort out their own threads let 'em die, this tournament should have just been scrapped after the first round shambles.

At the very least we should allow our current battles to end if at all possible, even if they run into the next tournament.
On one hand I'd like to use my main character for the end of the year tournament, but on the other hand Evvie gets beaten up too much. Are guns allowed? This will influence the type of character I'll need.
His sword being able to cut through thin steel would be...weaker than a bullet proof vest, thus weaker than her magical shield, I'm assuming? Of course it would still do a number on her shield should one of his attacks hit.
Only non-gender and non-race specific characters are allowed, looking vaguely like every race and yet none. They also aren't allowed firearms because reasons.

Saanga is sort of dark skinned. Rez and another character I haven't used yet due to being op is. After my male character-a-day week is finally completed in earnest I could have a diversity character-a-day, which will include my Native American. I decided on her being from the primarily used alternate reality earth where people can use magic. So much will have changed that I can make up my own tribe for her without any hand waving necessary.

I wonder if a modern day american with a gun would also be considered a stereotype...

Americans are commonly stereotyped as gun loving, but I guess stereotypes don't allways translate into characters.

Perhaps things are racist or not depending on how reasonably accurate it is? Having a roman character running around everywhere in a toga would likely be considered racist but if they go into battle with a Gladius then that could be considered reasonable. But someone of a different race (doing this in real life) realistically and respectfully portraying a black person would still likely be considered racists.
The one thing the Japanese overlooked, shields.

Still have no idea why.

Well, I have some idea why, but I'm still not wholly convinced.

They don't have good hand guards on their Katanas either. They look nice but I'm fond of cross guards.

I was thinking it might be stereotypical to have a modern day native American-like character still using a bow and arrow in modern society because people would think she's primative or something. However, her bow is specially infused with a spirit and passed down through generations so it makes sense to still be using it. She's from an alternate reality or another world where her tribe survived colonilization through great infinity and a group of heros, one of which used her bow.
Too stereotypical for a native american-like character to be my archer? Then again, Japanese people are still running around with katanas.
Listia watched as the female baddie got kicked in the opposite direction, smashing into the wall. While Listia wouldn't mind kicking her while she was down, it would be difficult to reach her position from where she was now, having to cross the male baddie's sphere of influence along the way. Had it not been directed towards the feet of her ally, that fire of his could cover a large distance and could possibly even hit her where she stood should she become the target of his ire. That being said, it was high time to begin the three second charge time to place a faint blue shroud of energy over her skin to shield against any attacks that came her way, including that twisted fire of his. It wouldn't hold up to attacks indefinitely, but a brief pass of fire would likely not be able to penetrate unless it packed more of a punch than getting hit by a bullet. She believed she could cover the distance between the two in a full on sprint and attack before the shield ran out, should it come to that.

Whatever the case may be, come three seconds and she'd only have 30 seconds of it being active, so she couldn't dawdle for very long. The best case would be to eliminate him in that period of time and then switch to another spirit with fresh energy reserves in order to help combat the remaining foe. At the current moment, the male enemy was heading off to one of the supporting columns. He could use it for cover, but so could she, limiting the amount of time he could get full on attacks against her shields and bettering her chance of survival. As she advanced towards him, the final seconds of her charge time quickly ticking down to completion, she adjusted her run to place the pillar in between the two of them.

This would obstruct his view of her so he might not be able to tell that her shield would be up momentarily, which could make him unprepared for her enhanced defensive capabilities, him thinking that she was previously defenseless due to her lack of significant clothing. Of course this went both ways, so she had to trust that her shields would still be able to hold true to whatever he might attempt while he was back there.

If he showed himself around the pillar then she'd quickly try to see what he would attempt and make an effort to dodge should it seem more threatening then a bullet or of unknown power. If it was clearly less threatening like his fire attack from before then she'd take him off guard by charging straight through his assault and trying to joust at his face as she got closer. If he was focused on her ally, still, then he'd be in major trouble.

Because her shield blocked off the cold wind against her skin, she didn't notice the decreased temperature, but would certainly be in for an unpleasant surprise once it ran out, given her outfit.
