A quick introduction of myself and a few associates of mine

For real though, I'm a Brit who dabbles in most genres of roleplay, but tends to go for fantasy and sci-fi in particular. I prefer high casual, but will use a more or less advanced writing style if I like the concept.

I should probably warn you that people will probably ridicule you for trying to do this, whether it succeeds or not.

Details and Background Information

Ialla - Psychological Description

Ialla is an efficient, methodical fighter with little care for who or what she fights for. She is the sort of person who does things as well as she can the first time (better that than to have to try again later), but who recognises there is rarely enough time for perfect. She prefers to bait her opponent into a trap, then cut them down before they are sure what is happening. Her method of doing things also causes her to dislike people who waste time - she has a particular hate for hagglers. If they can't afford her service, she says, they don't get it. She often also has difficulty trusting people. Friends have always seemed more trouble than they're worth to her, and she's always been capable enough on her own. The best thing you'll ever get from Ialla is respect, and that's tough to earn, but easily worth it - she's always been someone you want to be on the same side of.
Ialla - Brief History

Alessana Jhen was a saint of the Ellorien Empire - a figure known throughout the land and many neighbouring ones for her deeds of courage and heroism. She had been married for a long time already, and soon became mother to Ialla. What she didn't know was that a shapeshifting demon had kidnapped and replaced Alessana's husband several months ago, draining the life force of both to remain corporeal, Alessana's constitution hiding the effects and healing her before the next draining. The demon, Triz'ata, was the father of Ialla. Obviously, upon Ialla's birth, things didn't go brilliantly.
Investigation soon found Triz'ata's true identity, and his death was quick. Alessana's true husband was found dead the same day. Everything about Ialla was covered up, anything less would tarnish her mother's reputation. The child was declared a stillborn, and the husband murdered. People worldwide gave their sympathies to the unfortunate hero.
Allessana was unwilling to simply destroy her child, regardless of the father. She had a close friend of hers, living in a rural location where they would not be found, look after her. Afraid but indebtted, they eventually agreed, but said that if anything "unnatural" happened, they would stop immediately. Ialla was brought up this way until the age of twelve, but Alessana's friend proved true to their word when something finally did happen - an otherworldly mist emanating from the child inexplicably. Ialla spent the remainder of her childhood on the streets, barely scraping together the food to live on, eventually resorting to crime. After a few years, when she was sixteen, her horns had grown too prominent to hide. She was forced to sleep during daytime and move only at night, where she would only be seen by the drunk and the stupid. She soon attracted the attention of someone entirely different, a teacher of sorts. By her adulthood, she had become an accomplished swordswoman.
Her adult life was mostly spent travelling from country to country, selling her talents as a mercenary. Under one occasion, she met a strange figure who recognised her potential, and sold her the tattoos that cover her left arm. These allowed her to control her powers properly, which saved her life many times. Her reputation built massively, and now the guards know not to stop pale women with tattooed arms, horns and black swords when they walk into town.

Arena Information

Weapons and Gear

  • Blood Iron Sword - Ialla's sword is made from a powerful, magical material called Blood Iron. Made through a process which involves the intended user sacrrificing some of their blood, it is specifically attuned to one person. Ialla's sword will grow thorns around the handle when someone else tries to use it. When she uses it, she can hear the blood of those around her, making it almost impossible to hide.
  • Leather Armour - Just that: normal leather armour. About as much protection as is possible without hindering movement on some level.
  • Attuned Tattoos - These are designed to allow Ialla to control her magical abilities instead of them just occuring spontaneously. They have no effect of their own, but they make Ialla's natural abilities much more useful. When in use, they glow a faint, murky red.

Skills and Special Abilities

  • Mistweaver - Ialla's signature spell is to create a thick cloud of mist that obscures vision, and dampens the local atmosphere enough to put out small flames (a candle but not a torch). Combining this with the blood-hearing from her sword creates a predator-prey situation that takes even seasoned warriors by surprise (often more so than novices), much to Ialla's amusement.
  • Abnormal Gravity - Ialla can slightly adjust the way gravity works to suit her. This is only for herself, she cannot directly affect others with this. She can use use it to jump abnormally high, stop and change direction in mid-air, and breal falls.
  • Sudden Step - Ialla can suddenly move a few steps in any direction, leaving a small cloud of mist where she left. This is irrelevant of any obstacles, but she cannot finish inside one and any objects she is holding or people touching are brought with her. Her favourite use of this spell is to run directly towards a melee combatant, then use it to cover the last spell so they engage her too slowly.
@Cu Chulainn Based on that, sure, you can play a vampire, but as with any obviously dangerous race, expect to be at best mistrusted by others.
@Rilla This seems interesting. I remember a while ago there was a discussion about whether D&D mechanics should be applied to arena, but the general concern was that D&D concepts are too arbitrary (e.g. Armour Class). This, obviously, needs refinement but it's a step forward, and like I said, I'm interested.
@Cu Chulainn I'm pretty sure that there's only ever been one vampire on Ravnica and that he's dead. Sorry, but if I'm right then no, no vampires.
@Ryougu She's your creation, you can as you choose with her (within reason, obviously). If you don't want to play her, no problem, she may or may not occur as an NPC.
@Cu Chulainn Both Orzhov and Golgari are good, there is also a character that has been made for Golgari that is not in use, a gorgon. I'll try and dig her up from the OOC.
@Holy Grail Human-wise, the Empire would probably see the Xenor as a threat, due to their military capabilities and their philosphies being pretty much opposite to each other (the humans being oppressive and conversative, the Xenor being more open-minded). Of the Assar-Rhen, Kyriarka in particular would hold some respect for Kriisha. The similarities are there: both are matriarchal leaders from a single-gendered species, with an emphasis on martial strength and off-shoots of the humsn race. And considering the way Kyriarka thinks, respect is probably the best anyone can get from her.
Emperor Hayashima Togoki, Ultimate Majesty of Terra, and leader of the vast majority of the human race, recieving a report about recent occurences on Tarin. Dossier on the war in hand, his best advisor, Mirama Hoyoko, on hand, he thought he had a way for everything he wanted for his species to fall into place.

"Tarin, as you know, has huge deposits of an extremely valuable mineral knowm an renthulium. This is being fought over in a proxy war between the Aurolian Federation and the Concordat. Providing ground support for either side could be exchanged for a share of the renthulium, providing funds for a more substantial interstellar navy." She told him, keeping her eyes firmly on the polished marble floor. She was afraid, like everyone was, that should she even glance at the Emperor, she would burn into a pile of ash.

"Yes, it makes sense. But which side?"

"Supporting a losing side might allow you to get a better deal, as they will be more desperate, but is more of a risk, and might end up costing more in the long run by using more troops. Supporting a winning side will do the opposite - good and bad, but runs the additional risk of being turned down. In that situation, you could threaten to support their enemy, returning them to the bloody stalemate they've suffered for so long already, but that would be just as costly for you as for them. However, currently neither side has an apparent advantage. Perhaps waiting it out would be the best option?"

"You know me, Hoyoko. I'd rather not sit by idly while my goal is so close, just to watch it slip through my fingers like sand. If not the war, then something else needs to be my focus. I can't do nothing."

"Then how about something more subtle? You know, of course, of the small handful of Assar-Rhen who miss the comforts of their past modern lives. There is one we have established regular contact with, and the entire species has proven to be capable enough. If one were to get to the front, say, on one of the ships that illegally traffic people from the planet, she could send information to you, perform sabotage, or even capture someone for ransom, as you decide. It would be a foothold through which your influence in the area could grow."

"Then let it be so."

Jessica Vex's family had come from one of the many areas throughout the world which had to be forcefully conquered by the Empire, as her name clearly suggested. Never feeling at home, she travelled from place to place, but all were part of the Empire, so all were the same. Eventually, she went to the one place in the world that wasn't just another like the last one: the Assar-Rhen (taking the name Kopsotia, meaning "elegance"). But she grew tired of this, too. She was the sort of person who needed to travel, but had nowhere to travel to. She found her solution back where she began: she could get off-planet if the Empire wanted her there. So she sold her unique capabilities to them.

She got to the meeting point. Her skin was schockingly pale, she was from the white tribe. At least it wasnt blue, or green, she could pass off as human like this. She wore a scarf, to hide her spore-slits. And now, a very faint light, gliding towards her. A small, black shuttle, no larger than a van, landed quietly next to her, and the door raised open. The pilot, an Ishkaan, took his money and got underway quickly. The Invigilator guns "didn't see them", of course. Everything was going smoothly so far. She would soon be taken up to a small pirate space station, then transferred to a vessel better suited for longer journies. After that would come her arrival in Tarin, her mission, and her reward: her freedom.
