"Johto," answered Shiranui, "It's close by and it's my homeland."
With fully-recovered Pokémon in hand, Shiranui decided on his party and made his way back to the stadium as the time for the final battle drew near.
I assume Johto is what you mean. You can win Johto and I'll get this one, Is that okay?
Shiranui saw the battle and was later at the Pokémon Centre thinking about which Pokémon he would use against Liam while his Pokémon were healed.
Shiranui's semi-final battle was now on. His opponent was a trainer from Kalos and his first Pokémon was a Durant. "Durant, the Iron Ant Pokémon. They attack in groups, covering themselves in steel armor to protect themselves from Heatmor." He sent out Kettobasu and one Blaze Kick was enough to knock it out. The next Pokémon was Haxorus. "Haxorus, the Axe Jaw Pokémon. They are kind but can be relentless when defending territory. They challenge foes with tusks that can cut steel." Shiranui switched Kettobasu for Titania and after Mega Evolving, two Moonblasts defeated Haxorus. Next was a female Meowstic. "Meowstic, the Constraint Pokémon. When in danger, it raises its ears and releases enough psychic power to grind a 10-ton truck into dust." A well-aimed Shadow Ball that struck Meowstic's weak spot knocked her out.

Fourth was a Typhlosion. "Typhlosion, the Volcano Pokémon. If its rage peaks, it becomes so hot that anything that touches it will instantly go up in flames." Typhlosion covered Titania in an Eruption that left the Mega Gardevoir burnt and felt a Psychic afterwards. A Lava Plume took Titania out. Shiranui sent out Yamamoto and a sandstorm broke out due to the Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability. Typhlosion changed the weather with Sunny Day and Yamamoto finished Typhlosion off with a Rock Slide. The last Pokémon Shiranui had to face was a Talonflame. "Talonflame, the Scorching Pokémon. When attacking prey, it can reach speeds of up to 310 mph. It finishes its prey off with a colossal kick." Talonflame struck Yamamoto with Acrobatics that did a lot for a not-very-effective attack. Yamamoto launched a Stone Edge at Talonflame and a critical hit knocked the fiery bird of prey out. Shiranui secured a spot in the grand final where he was certain to face his own friend Liam.
"You'll soon be doing the same thing," Shiranui replied, "Whether it's this round or the next."
Shiranui was at the Pokémon Centre waiting for his Pokémon to finish healing. He had been hearing some trainers talk about the Mega Aggron they saw.
The quarter finals were now on and Shiranui's next battle was the first of that round. His opponent was Conway—a viridian-haired trainer from Sinnoh that boasted of being a brilliant strategist. "Go Shuckle!"
"Shuckle, the Mold Pokémon. It stores berries inside its shell. To avoid attacks, it hides beneath rocks and remains completely still."
"Tetsu, I choose you!" Shiranui's Aggron came out and the battle was on.
"Shuckle, Withdraw!"
"Tetsu, Heavy Slam!" Because Shuckle was one of the slowest Pokémon known, Tetsu was able to get in his attack before his opponent did. He slammed his metallic body on Shuckle's shell and despite no cracks appearing, Shuckle still felt the force of 360kg of metallic body mass. It withdrew into its shell afterwards.
"Shuckle, Gyro Ball!"
"Tetsu, finish it with another Heavy Slam!" Tetsu gave Shuckle another body slam. The Aggron got up to reveal Shuckle partly buried in the ground and knocked out.
"We'll see how your Aggron compares to mine," Conway stated before sending his Aggron into battle. Tetsu sized up the newcomer and the battle was on.
"Aggron, Iron Head!"
"Tetsu, Autotomize! Mega Ring activate!"
"Mega what?!" exclaimed Conway as Shiranui touched the keystone on his Mega Ring and Tetsu was enveloped on an orb. The orb shattered to reveal a bulkier, more armoured version of Aggron who immediately shed some of it to reduce his weight and make him faster. Conway's Aggron charged at Tetsu and a loud clang was heard as contact was made, adding another battle scar to Tetsu's carapace.
"Aggron, Iron Tail!"
"Tetsu, Brick Break!" The Mega Aggron charged at the normal Aggron and delivered a swift chop that triggered the latter's Sturdy ability. Conway's Aggron swung its tail and another clang was heard when contact was made. Tetsu's Defence stat had dropped.
"Aggron, Protect!"
"Tetsu, Headbutt!" As Tetsu charged at Aggron, the latter hid behind the green shield that stopped many an attack, Tetsu's included.
"Aggron, Roar!"
"Tetsu, try Headbutt again!" This time, Tetsu's attack connected and the low effectiveness didn't matter as Conway's Aggron went down.
"I don't know how you managed to do that, but my Dusknoir will end your winning streak!" Conway sent his Dusknoir out and Shiranui was unmoved as he scanned the ghost.
"Dusknoir, the Gripper Pokémon and the fully-evolved form of Duskull. The antenna on its head captures radio waves from the world of spirits that command it to take people there."
"Dusknoir, Trick Room!"
"Tetsu, Iron Tail!" The Mega Aggron struck Dusknoir with his tail before a force field surrounded the battlefield.
"Trick Room alters the very physics of the battle, making slower Pokémon attack before the faster ones," stated Conway, "Dusknoir, Focus Blast!"
"Tetsu, Stone Edge!" With Trick Room in effect, Dusknoir was able to get in its attack as it fired a bright beam of power from its hands. The beam blasted Tetsu into a knockout.
"Tetsu, return; Iroha, I choose you!" Shiranui sent his Kangaskhan out. "With that Trick Room in effect and Dusknoir being able to use Focus Blast, I just hope Iroha can do enough damage."
"Dusknoir, Focus Blast!"
"Iroha, Dizzy Punch!"
"You do realise my Dusknoir is immune to normal attacks," stated Conway in a condescending manner.
"That may be true in normal circumstances, but Iroha has the Scrappy ability!" rebutted Shiranui as Dusknoir fired a Focus Blast. Iroha barely dodged the attack before charging in and giving Dusknoir a punch that left it confused, made possible by the Kangaskhan's Scrappy ability.
"Dusknoir, Focus Blast again!"
"Iroha, Double-Edge!" Dusknoir couldn't focus its power through its confusion and hurt itself instead. Iroha charged in and sacked Dusknoir like the ghost was a quarterback. The hit was critical and Dusknoir went down. Shiranui advanced to the semi-finals.
When Shiranui went out for his battle, he recognised his opponent as the semi-finalist from the P-1 Grand Prix he had beaten. "I was hoping to face you again, Shiranui," said Ami, "This time we're not restricted to Fighting-type Pokémon."
"Give me your best shot, Ami," replied Shiranui.
"I choose Wobbuffet!"
"Sapphire, I choose you!" Ami's Wobbuffet and Shiranui's Sableye came out. Shiranui scanned the opponent.
"Wobbuffet, the Patient Pokémon. To keep its pitch-black tail hidden, it lives quietly in the darkness. It is never first to attack."
"Sapphire, Torment!"
"Wobbuffet, Safeguard!" The Sableye shouted something at Wobbuffet and the latter was enraged. Wobbuffet conjured a shield preventing status effects.
"Sapphire, Sucker Punch!"
"Wobbuffet, Counter!" Sapphire zipped behind Wobbuffet and socked it in the back of its head. Wobbuffet glowed red and sent some energy back at Sapphire, but the Sableye phased through it.
"Sapphire, Dark Pulse!"
"Wobbuffet, Destiny Bond!" The Sableye launched a beam filled with dark circles at Wobbuffet and left it on its last legs. Wobbuffet used Destiny Bond to try and take Sapphire down if the Sableye dealt the knockout blow.
"Sapphire, Taunt!"
"Wobbuffet, Counter!" Sapphire turned around and smacked her behind, making Wobbuffet even more furious. Because Torment and now Taunt were both in effect, it had to use a Counter, knowing it would fail.
"Sapphire, finish it with Sucker Punch!"
"Wobbuffet, Counter!" The Sableye gave Wobbuffet another punch in the back of its head and the latter went down.
"Wobbuffet, return; Jellicent, you're next!"
Shiranui saw a pink jellyfish come out and got out his Pokédex. "Jellicent, the Floating Pokémon. The fate of the ships and crew that wander into Jellicent's habitat: all sunken, all lost, all vanished." He considered the data entry to be ironic and after looking at the picture revealed, he found the species was sexually dimorphic.
"Jellicent, Ominous Wind!"
"Sapphire, Sucker Punch!" The Sableye zipped under Jellicent's tentacles and punched her in the back. Jellicent's Cursed Body ability disabled the move. The jellyfish spun around and a shadowy wind blew Sapphire back towards her trainer.
"Jellicent, Dazzling Gleam!"
"Sapphire, Sucker Punch once more!" Sapphire did the same as she did before and this time the Jellicent went down.
"Jellicent, return; go Cindy!" Ami recalled the downed Jellicent and sent out her shiny Hawlucha. Shiranui kept Sapphire out and the battle was on. "Cindy, Sky Attack!"
"Sapphire, Zen Headbutt!" Cindy was cloaked in a bright light as she powered up for an attack. Sapphire charged at Cindy with her head letting off an iridescent glow and the attack struck home.
"Now, Cindy!"
"Sapphire, Detect!" The Sableye's crystal eyes started glowing and as Cindy was diving towards Sapphire, at the last moment the Sableye dodged the attack.
"Cindy, Sky Drop!"
"Sapphire, Will-O-Wisp!" Sapphire put her Prankster ability to work and lit some ghostly flames before sending them at Cindy. The shiny Hawlucha tried to dodge the flames to no avail as she was burnt. Cindy grabbed Sapphire with her legs and took to the air. "Sapphire, Zen Headbutt!" When Cindy was at a high enough altitude, the Hawlucha let go and Sapphire was plummeting towards the ground. The Sableye only survived the impact thanks to a drop in Cindy's Attack stat due to the burn. Sapphire charged at Cindy with her head glowing and gave the Hawlucha a headbutt. Cindy succumbed to her burn and Shiranui was declared the winner.
Shiranui had a easy time when Iroha put her ability to work to beat a Haunter and Shishi zapped a Fearow into submission.
