Bio: Shiranui had developed a fascination with fox-like Pokémon from watching the Kimono Sisters performing during his childhood. His favourite Pokémon are Espeon, Umbreon, Delphox, Zoroark and Ninetales. He is generally kind, but has a low tolerance to those who speak ill of his likes. He had been inspired to go on a Pokémon journey ever since he spotted Ho-oh taking off from the Bell Tower at age 8, later catching it during his journey through Johto along with two of the three Legendary Beasts.

Having never left the regions of the Far East, Shiranui is excited for seeing the culture of a faraway land whilst also steeling himself for the culture shock he may inevitably feel. As part of his ninja training, his father had told him to expect the unexpected.

"I can handle it," replied Shiranui.

"Looks like I'm the one that gets to put that hotshot in his place," stated Shiranui after seeing the quarter-final brackets, "And it looks like I could face your father in the semis."

Shiranui's opponent started with a Rampardos. "Rampardos, the Head Butt Pokémon. Its skull is a hard as iron. It is a brute that tears down jungle trees while catching prey." He had Buta take it out with one Earthquake. Next was a Goodra. "Goodra, the Dragon Pokémon. This very friendly Dragon-type Pokémon will hug its beloved Trainer, leaving that Trainer covered in sticky slime." After taking a Muddy Water attack, Buta took Goodra out with a powerful Avalanche. Last was Braviary. "They fight for their friends without any thought about danger to themselves. One can carry a car while flying." A quick Icicle Crash finished the warrior off, giving Shiranui a clean sweep victory.

Pokemon Johto

Shiranui's opponent first sent out a super size Gourgeist. "Gourgeist, the Pumphin Pokémon. It enwraps its prey in its hairlike arms. It sings joyfully as it observes the suffering of its prey." Having never seen such a sadistic Pokémon, he quickly had Kyouchou—now a Honchkrow—dispatch it. The Moxie ability gave Kyouchou a boost in Attack. The next Pokémon was Diggersby. "Diggersby, the Digging Pokémon. As powerful as an excavator, its ears can reduce dense bedrock to rubble. When it's finished digging, it lounges lazily." A Sucker Punch and a Night Slash brought it down.

"That makes sense," replied Shiranui, "You would need multiple Nurse Joys to cater for the many Pokémon that would lose a battle here."

"You bet they are," Shiranui answered, "I let them know during my training." He noticed Trevor's subtle change in personality as well.

"He doesn't stand a Gastly of a chance against us," answered Shiranui.
