"Counter with a Flame Charge!" Honoh's feathers ignited as the Talonflame flew straight at Mega Pidgeot, trying to get it to drop the ring.

"Honoh, use Protect!" Honoh maintained course while conjuring a green protection shield.

"Me First!" Honoh conjured a more powerful windstorm that spun in the opposite direction.

"Acrobatics!" Honoh performed a series of aerial manoeuvres and threw Mega Pidgeot off course through the use of wake turbulence.

"Flame Charge into Taunt!" Honoh charged at Mega Pidgeot with his plumage on fire whilst issuing a series of chirps and squawks that intended to insult his opponent out of using status moves. The Talonflame gained Speed.

"Aerial Ace!" Honoh put his Gale Wings ability to work and zeroed in on Pidgeot. He snatched the ring right out of Pidgeot's talons and headed towards the goal.

"Honoh, I choose you!" Shiranui sent out his Talonflame.

Both Honoh and Salamence were let out of their respective Poké Balls and the semi-final match was on. Not even Salamence was fast enough to keep pace with Honoh as the Talonflame took the ring despite feeling the effects of the Intimidate ability. "Salamence, Thunder Fang!"
"Honoh, Me First!" Honoh swooped back down towards Salamence and struck the dragon with an electrified open-beaked peck, knocking Salamence off course. Salamence tried to pursue Honoh with his jaws sparking, but the Talonflame was widening the gap.
"Salamence, Hyper Beam!"
"Honoh, Acrobatics!" Salamence charged up and fired a powerful beam of energy, intending to knock Honoh out of the sky, but Honoh flew barrel rolls around the beam. The beam faded and with Salamence having to recharge from the move, Honoh took advantage and scored the winning goal.

Shiranui had entered his Talonflame into the contest and when it came to his quarter final match, Honoh easily outflew Hoothoot and scored a goal.
