Shiranui was glad to not only make it into the standard appeals round, he was among the top 32. He had seen Harley's appeal and was reminded of Kumo—his own Ariados. "I'll have to pay the rest of my Pokémon a visit at some point," he mused to himself. He recognised Drew and Wallace as coordinators he had beaten in his quest for ribbons and was not surprised at May being amongst the people who made the cut—she had done a marginally better appeal than Shiranui. "No big surprise, she's got experience in the field." Soledad was someone that Shiranui recognised from his research as a past winner of the Grand Festival.
The audience cheered as Shiranui and a completely identical twin (Zoro in disguise) made their entrance through the performance of various ninja moves. "Alright, my double, start with the Ninjutsu Art of Transformation!" the real Shiranui called. The fake Shiranui made a series of hand gestures and started showing off various Pokémon illusions; consisting of a Blaziken, Gardevoir, Manectric, Mawile, Altaria and finishing with the revelation of a Zoroark's true form. "Show off your Night Daze!" Zoro conjured a dome of darkness and sent it rippling out. The audience applauded and the performers turned towards the judges.

"An exceptional display of Zoroark's many faces and talents!"
"Zoroark is remarkable!"
"All your Zoroark's Illusion training has paid off in spades."
"Your Zoroark's coat has developed a very nice sheen."
"That is one powerful Night Daze!"

Shiranui had a hunch about the rose as well and thought about it while he proceeded to the green room.
"Glad to see you here as well, May," replied Shiranui.
Shiranui dressed in his chunin outfit and saw the Cacturne-dressed man walk away. "Liam, there's something about Cacturne Man that rubs me the wrong way," he warned.
Shiranui was up as well and was getting ready for the Grand Festival.
Shiranui brushed up on the Grand Festival rules until he felt the need to sleep.
"Thanks," replied Shiranui.
"Regarding insight, a lot of it is in the way I battle," stated Shiranui, "One instance of this was in the Lavaridge Gym where Manectric took out Flannery's Slugma and Torkoal with one Electro Ball each due to the large disparity in their speeds."
"To get to the chunin rank, you would need to embody its pillars;" explained Shiranui, "Stealth, determination and insight."
