Titania was hit with the attack. "Use Moonblast!" The Gardevoir fired a beam of moonlight at Jiraiya.

"Psychic!" With Trick Room in effect, Titania was able to make her move while Jiraiya was still a Poison type.

"Protect!" Titania conjured her shield and Jiraiya threw a gob of poisonous gunk at it. The shield blocked the attack.

"Titania, set the stage with Trick Room!" While Jiraiya flitted back and forth to make copies, Titania conjured a zone of twisted dimensions around the stage that resembled a misty forest at night.

"Titania, centre stage!" Shiranui tossed Titania's ball and white ribbons flew out, wrapping around themselves and coalescing to form the Gardevoir.

Shiranui took his place for the final battle.

While Shiranui watched Liam compete, his smartphone issued a message notification. He checked it and it was a message from his Porygon stating that both his and Liam's Pokédexes had been updated with entries for nearly 800 species of Pokémon. He tested the update by checking Primarina's entry. "Primarina, the Soloist Pokémon. It controls its water balloons with song. The melody is learned from others of its kind and is passed down from one generation to the next."

May's Blaziken was more of a challenge for Titania despite the type advantage she had. The clock ticked into the final minute and both coordinators were tied at 20% of their points left. Titania had used two Double Teams and two Calm Minds to improve her stats while Blaziken was all fired up from Blaze being active. "Blaziken, use Protect!"
"Titania, Misty Terrain!" Blaziken conjured his shield while Titania conjured a mist that covered the stage. Both coordinators lost some points. "Blaziken, Blast Burn!"
"Titania, Stored Power! Mega Ring activate!" Titania had Mega Evolved and both Pokémon executed their attacks. Fiery explosion met raw psychic energy and sparks were flying from where the attacks met as both Pokémon tried to overpower their opponent. At five seconds left, Titania's attack won out and Blaziken was blasted into a knockout.

Shiranui was not surprised to see May and Drew make it to the battle round. When he was called out for the inaugural battle, he noticed his opponent wore a bracelet similar to his own Mega Ring and in that bracelet was an octahedral gemstone he had never seen before. He realised he was up against a tourist from Alola from the fact his opponent was a tan-skinned girl. The timer started. "Titania, I choose you!"
"Go Primarina!" Titania's Poké Ball opened and lots of white ribbons flew out before twisting themselves into a helical arrangement and revealing the Gardevoir. Titania's opponent was a Pokémon no-one local to Kanto had ever seen before, looking like a white-furred seal with a blue mermaid tail that was as beautiful as a Milotic. Shiranui tried to scan this new Pokémon with his Pokédex. "Pokémon unknown. No information available." He needed to update his Pokédex after the battle.
"Don't let the unknown get to you, master," Titania encouraged, "You can tell at a glance what its type is likely to be."

"Primarina, start with Bubble Beam!"
"Titania, use Hypnosis!" The Gardevoir's eyes glowed brightly and Primarina was entranced into falling asleep. The soloist did not wake up.
"Primarina, wake up and use Sparkling Aria!"
"Titania, Calm Mind!" Titania let off a soothing azure glow as she focused her mind and boosted her Special stats. Primarina still didn't wake up.
"Primarina, wake up and use Sparkling Aria!"
"Titania, Dream Eater!" Titania peered into Primarina's mind and saw a whole colony of them singing underwater playing out as a dream. She removed the dream and consumed it.
"Tastes like sushi," the Gardevoir commented. Primarina's dream being consumed was what woke the soloist up. It started singing an aria and a sparkling orb of water appeared above that was launched after another bar. Titania got hit and Shiranui lost some points. "This water is as soothing as Rawst Berries applied to a burn," Titania commented.
"Primarina, time to use your signature move! Oceanic Operetta!"
"Titania, use Magical Leaf! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated his keystone and Titania was glowing with the energy of Mega Evolution. After the Gardevoir's Mega Evolution was complete, Primarina's trainer starting dancing and Primarina started singing an opera, causing an enormous bubble of water to appear. Titania put her higher Speed to work and conjured some iridescent leaves that flew towards Primarina. The leaves struck Primarina on the throat and that caused the Z Move to be interrupted. The enormous bubble fell to the stage and everyone involved in the battle was soaked to the core including the trainers. Primarina's coordinator lost a lot of points from the failed Z Move and time was up. Shiranui had a lot more points and proceeded to the semi-final.

In the green room, Shiranui was trying to come to terms over what he had been up against.

Shiranui appeared in a puff of smoke wearing his ninja garb. "Higitsune, I choose you!" He opened Higitsune's Poké Ball and a lot of orange flames issued forth, coalescing into his Delphox. "Set the scene with Magic Room!" Higitsune performed a dance while chanting an incantation. A zone appeared around the Contest Hall that made everyone think they were in the Kimono Dance Theatre. "Time to execute our Fire Elemental Combination!" The Delphox conjured a Shadow Ball at the tip of his stick and breathed a Mystical Fire through it, causing the fire to take on an indigo hue. Higitsune continued the combo by using Psychic to manipulate the flames and have them take on a humanoid shape. He then started chanting again while the fire elemental performed some traditional dances that were a common sight in his trainer's hometown of Ecruteak City. After the dancing was complete, Higitsune uttered a final incantation and the fire elemental exploded into a myriad of blue and purple sparkles. The Magic Room faded and the audience cheered.

Shiranui and Higitsune turned to the judges and awaited their verdicts. "An excellent performance rich with culture!"
"Remarkable!"
"Your Delphox is very well-trained."
