"Congratulations, both of you," said Shiranui to Jen and Liam.
"Good luck," Shiranui wished.
"Thanks," replied Shiranui, hoping Jen would do alright for her trial.
Shiranui entered the Totem's Den at the summit and saw a natural stage where a trio of Alolan Marowak were dancing. A sign near the stage said "Spot the difference". Shiranui watched the dancing and saw one of the Marowak spin its bone in the opposite direction. The Marowak trio ended their dance and faced Shiranui. "You there," Shiranui pointed out, "You spun your bone the opposite way." The Marowak trio bowed and started a different dance. Shiranui noticed one of the Marowak lower its bone while the other two raise theirs as if they were javelins in the middle of their dance and when they finished their dance, Shiranui stated, "You lowered your bone when the others raised theirs." The trio bowed again and started dancing. Shiranui couldn't spot any differences in their choreography, but near the end of the dance he did spot a newcomer in the form of a very tall Salazzle. "Nice choreography, but you have a newcomer," he commented. The Marowak trio bowed for a third time and went aside to watch the upcoming trial battle while Salazzle stood at the other side as Shiranui's opponent.

Shiranui scanned the totem with his Pokédex. "Salazzle, the Toxic Lizard Pokémon and the evolved form of Salandit. For some reason, only females have been found. It creates a reverse harem of male Salandit that it lives with."
"Tsuchi, I choose you!" He sent his Mudbray out and Salazzle issued a call for assistance, which was answered by a Salandit. "Tsuchi, use Earthquake!" Salazzle used Torment and Salandit compounded the restricting combo by using Taunt, making a come-hither motion. Tsuchi was enraged and in retaliation, stomped the ground as hard as he can to cause a violent earthquake. Salandit was shaken into a knockout and Salazzle survived albeit with heavy damage. The totem ate a Petaya Berry she held, boosting her Special Attack, and issued another call. Another Salandit joined the fray. "Tsuchi, use Bulldoze!" Salazzle spat a noxious Toxic at Tsuchi, leaving the Mudbray badly poisoned and Salandit used Venoshock, spraying some toxins at Tsuchi that reacted violently with the chemicals Salazzle sprayed to deal extra damage. Tsuchi stomped the ground, causing a less violent quake that shook both Salandit and Salazzle into a knockout.

Shiranui produced three Sitrus Berries and an Antidote and gave the berries to the two Salandit and the totem Salazzle. He sprayed the Antidote all over Tsuchi and the Mudbray was grateful. "You deserve a nice long mud bath after we get back to the Pokémon Centre," said Shiranui before recalling Tsuchi. The Marowak Trio presented a Firium Z to Shiranui and Shiranui took it, thanking the Marowak in the process.
"I can go next," Shiranui volunteered.
Shiranui noticed Noelawani's fidgeting and nerves, but didn't raise a fuss over the topic. He had seen similar quirks in the apprentice trainers at the Ecruteak Gym and was therefore used to those type of people.
"I'm Shiranui Tsukiko of Ecruteak City," Shiranui introduced.
"The more the merrier," said Shiranui.
"No doubt about that," replied Shiranui, "She'd even do well in the Kalos Pokémon Showcases." He would have taken them on himself during his journey there, but the Showcases were for girls only.
Shiranui noticed a faint sweet aroma and sent Okami out to find the source. Having used Odor Sleuth, Okami tracked down a Salandit that had just defeated a Magby in battle. Feeling plucky, Salandit turned towards Okami and prepared a Dragon Rage. Okami put her superior Speed to work and used Rock Tomb to hurl boulders at Salandit for heavy damage. Salandit executed its Dragon Rage attack and scored a hit on Okami. Shiranui threw a Great Ball at Salandit and the lizard was drawn in. The ball shook three times before snapping shut with a successful capture. Shiranui discovered to his luck that his new friend was female and named her Nayamashii. He saw the light on Nayamashii's ball still glowing red and knew that he had to send one of his Pokémon back to make room for her. He returned to see how Chuck and Ariel was faring with Turtonator.
