Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

@Vor For certain! Haven't even got the OOC up yet. You are more than welcome.
@AlysCole Will do!

@XSilentWingsX Muchos gracias.

@POOHEAD189 This is true...such is life!

@Southern Sun Yes we shall (although I'll allow half-Elves between humans and Elves), and as for the system of magic, it shall concentrate more on the individual; it can be learnt, but is more innate in certain individuals, however it will also take a toll on the user every time they wield it. It would be physically draining, and will be more 'earthy' than usual High Fantasy fair a la Tolkien AKA no fireballs flying about willy-nilly, unless you want your character to die, but can they still summon fireballs in this setting? Short answer is yes.

I hope that answers the current questions, and thank you all for your interest. Stay tuned for an OOC within the next couple of days.

If you wish to ask anything more, please go ahead.
@POOHEAD189 Why thank you, just gotta see what @Andromedai@eloraczyr@vietmyke@Eru Iluvatar all think first, if anything.
Animals.
@DeadBeatWalking You're correct!

Although you might want to add stealing kids in order to raise them as Elves, as well as the abduction and rape of women and men to both propogate the race and for pleasure; in most cases the women/man would be willing, Elves being pretty attractive to man, but sometimes not...think succubi/incubus in the latter case.

As for 'spoling' crops, well, that could be as little as poisoning your cattle to a full-on lynch-mob burning your fields, barn and cabin down with you inside.

I do intend for them to lean more toward the Fae/Sidhe/Fey/Fairie folk of British and European myth, while still retaining some elments of post-Tolkien Elves. Probably small things such as pointed ears, long lives etc.

There will also be differing sub-Elven cultures, in much the same way as we have differing cultures. Some Elves, for example, might fit the archtypical 'Wood/High/Dark' type, but if that was the case then I'd prefer them with a twist...Wood Elves that are sub-par archers and hutn Centaurs through the forest using only fists and forearm long blades, for example. Or 'High' Elves who are rotten on the inside and favour blackpowder weapons. That sort of thing.

I hope that explained a little better.

@POOHEAD189 You gonna just like my post, or express interest as well?

I'd understand if you don't, as you do seem to be in many RPs atm.
I shall try to make this brief and to the point!

So here goes.

This RP is intended to somewhat soften the view of Elves and Elvenkind bought about primarily by Tolkien (may he rest in peace) as well as hundreds of near-enough-copy-cat settings and stories; this view is of the tall and noble race of immortal and beautiful warrior-scholars, pale skin and flowing blonde locks gleaming in the sunlight, their poor breeding rate causing them to be one of the archtypical 'dying races', the other usually being the Dwarves/Dwarfs.

In this RP it is an objective of mine, and hopefully with help from any interested parties, to create a new and slightly more original view of the Elves.

Influenced somewhat by the recent trend in 'inverting' races, usually those of evil alignment or otherwise (think of sober, beardless, effeminate Dwarfs...urgh), as well as by the original and historical tropes of the Elf, I have decided upon a few things that will be different about this RP.

- Elves are not the first born/awakened race, that honour goes to man; in fact, if anything, they may be one of the last races of any importance at all.

- The Elves come in different shapes and sizes! Yes, you can create a stockier Elf with a beard, or a even...dare I say...a fat Elf. If that is what takes your fancy.

- In this setting the Elves attempted to wipe out humanity as soon as they were powerful enough to do so. Humanity, as it does, fought back and drove the Elves away into less desirable areas of land (a la the Witcher series), into mountain ranges and rugged highlands, bogs and fells, and especially forests and the 'wild places'. From that time on Elves have conducted terror attacks, kidnappings and various other unElflike activites upon mankind.

- Elves, going back to their traditional roots here, are voraciously sexual and seductive beings. Well, if you'd like them to be. Along with this, they can be hurt especially by iron.

- Other fantastical races will likely be present in this setting, or some of them at least, the Elves much disliked by many of them. Not because of Elven haughtiness, which doesn't really exist in this setting, but more because they see them as vermin and pests.

- Technology level will be around Late Medieval, so there will be up to crude blackpowder weapons such as basic cannon and the like. Most of the heavy work will still be done by cold steel.

- Magic...in this setting it is everywhere, but Elves are nowhere near as attuned to it as, say, in the Elder Scrolls or Warhammer Fantasy. Not the majority of them at least.

- The plot will hinge on how many players I can get interested, after that I will fill out the lore and get a plotline in the works.

So, would this interest anyone? Does anyone have any questions?
Interested, but I'll check my schedule to see if I'll get on board. So count this as a 'maybe'. :)
Down with this, sent you a PM.
Hello and thank you for clicking! I'm not really any good at formatting an interest thread, so I'll simply get on with it and explain what's in my mind;

When mankind first came to the unknown continent of Orthshiel - keels of men, women and their offspring, most fleeing from the lands to the east...driven by some unknown fear or terror at their backs - it was as if they had stepped into a fantastical reality of myth and legends.

For how could they have known that the continent was divded among 'animal kingdoms' in much the same way as their own countries and nations, inhabited by animals that walked, talked and were formed in much the same way as themselves.

In the first few years of colonisation along the expansive coastline, settlements with palisades of wood and halls of wattle and daub constructed steadily but unceasingly for the strangers to inhabit, the men and women from the west took their first tentative steps toward the interior.

At first they viewed the creatures of the continent with awe, paying them great respect but fearing them still, some of the more superstitious foreigners declaring them to be Gods and forming cults of animism - strange societies and orders that harkoned back to a wholly more primitive age, when men dwelt in caves and worshipped crude effigies of animal-headed deities around the fire.

Yet bring so many apples to one place, and there are bound to be more than a few of the rotten variety; slowly but surely the very nature of mankind began to take over, the various strongholds expanding toward the interior, lordlings fighting both one-another as well as driving the native creatures from their homes with fire, steel and powder. Eventually they began to make slaves of those they ground into the dirt, a bovine with the intelligence and shape of a man of far more value than some simple four-legged cow, the trading and breeding of such creatures becoming commonplace as the fortlets and keeps once consigned to the coast were replaced by entire villages and settlements further away from the ocean tides.

It came to be seen that, truly, mankind would infect the continent like a plague. Some, such as the more vicious of the Big Cats and their canine cousins, attempted to fight back...and were brutalised for their termerity.

Years passed, decades, a century...a century later and enclaves of 'free beasts' existed still, hidden away in remote parts of the continent, but it was really the empathetic and hedonistic attitudes of the humans that allowed ideas such as 'freedom' and 'revolution' to take root among both the freeborn and those born into a life of captivity and servitude.

Now that ideal is spreading by word of mouth, by hand or by any means possible, and although such things begin small...well...resistance and revenge are powerful motives indeed.

So, some basic information to follow on from that;

- The setting for this RP is obviously a fictional continent known as Orthshiel which, until a century ago from our current time, was thought of as a mythical place in much the same way as Atlantis...or America. It is about the size of two Britains put together, just of a broader shape, including numerous small isles off the coastlines.

- Humans with a technological level of Elizabethan England, a mix between more modern idea and medieval hangovers, have by the current day managed to colonise most of the continent, putting to the sword or enslaving any of the native creatures.

- The native creatures, for want of a better term, are 'furries'; animals with the intelligence and bodily characteristics of man I.E. Two arms and legs, two eyes, and so forth. This is fused with their own distinctive species, for example a bull is generally larger but dumber than a wolf, an avian is obviously of a lighter weight and so on.

- Think of the natives as a more humanlike representation of the animal kingdom I.E. Avians live in their own nations/tribes/countries/kingdoms, as do Bovines, Ursines and so forth. There can be interbreeding (a half-dog wolf, for example) but nothing too ridiculous. Even in an RP about talking animals.

- Once enough interest has been given, then I shall start writing more information on each 'nation' of creatures. I am however very open-minded to people creating their own, as long as they keep to 'the obvious', such as the fact that Wolves live in packs, Tigers are solitary for the most part, Bovine creatures are not known for their intelligence and so forth. If you do have an idea, please feel free to share it.

- As to the technological level of various animal cultures, well that depends on many things, and will be covered in more depth if this RP takes off.

- Our group, of roughly 5 to 8 people at most, will be starting off in a relatively small-scale scenario. I am veering toward the liberation of a slave farm/gladitorial ludus/or something else, but as usual this is subject to change. We will not be going to take on an army any time soon.

- This is not Animals of Farthing Wood, nor is it Redwall, Beatrix Potter or generally anything nice and cosy. In short, this is not your father's talking animal RP! There will be death, there will be 'extreme' themes, and for this reason I am going to say that this is a mature RP overall.

- Lastly, this is a high-casual to advanced RP, so I'd like the writing to be quality over quantity. If you do decide to write an essay or a novella for a post, make it good.

- I intend to keep this RP going, so a post every 2-3 days would be the expected posting cycle.

That is that, for now.

Aaaaaany questions, thoughts or so on?
@POOHEAD189@Andromedai@eloraczyr@vietmyke@Eru Iluvatar

Right, so, here's what I got as a tentative idea;

It is the middle of the War of the Ring, the war is ebbing back and forth like the ocean tides, this is when our group (together or not) is approached by an elderly gentleman at least claiming to be a wizard - probably sounding familiar so far... - what he is proposing is a journey, although more of a quest, into the Eastern expanses of Middle-Earth (we may go through the North to avoid the worst of the conflict, or take boat from Harad/Umbar, I'm not entirely sure yet).

What he wants from the East, or what your required to do there, he will not openly say although he offers advice, and payment for a job well done, but what you can assume is that it is a person or persons he is after rather than an item.

He is also rather vague on the identity of what he refers to as 'the knowledge', and keeps pretty silent on the entire subject.

The beginning of the quest in laid out before you, but where it will end cannot be seen. Bravery guts and determination will be needed to succeed, do you have them?

Fini.
