Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

@DepressedSovietHAHA COMMIE! You are wrong! His middle name is, in fact Ulysses! His first name was Hiram. Simpson was his mother's maiden name!

But you know about our TV shows, so I guess I'll let it pass.

@LauderMade cosmetic changes to my CS, such as color and reformatting the image. That's harder to do on mobile. Also, added image credit.
@LauderOne of these days, we need a batarian with glasses.
@LauderCS posted. Please let me know if I should make any changes. Same to @GeneralNox for the things that apply to you.

Age:
35

Race:
Batarian

Sex:
M

Biotic:
Yeah, what of it?

Profession:
Brawler Vanguard: A mix of biotics and punch, the Brawler Vanguard focuses on getting up close and personal with the enemy. Between Biotic Charge and his Blade Armor, the Brawler Vanguard always has the upper hand in close quarters combat.

Personality:
Bralya cares about one thing. Credits. If you're buying, he'll do just about anything, take just about any job. He's confident, perhaps overly so, and generally keeps his cards close to the vest. That isn't to say he’s completely impersonal. Buy a few Batarian Ales for him, and he'll tell war stories that would rival a krogan’s. Probably because he stole them from a krogan.

To say Bralya is morally grey would be kind. There's not much he objects to, other than wasting perfectly good ale. He frowns upon the typical pole-up-the-ass approach of most turians. In fact, he has assisted in several of Proctor’s research projects in one way or another, usually either by holding the patient still or subduing them if they get out of hand. On the battlefield, he tends to taunt his enemy just before he charges in or lashes them closer.

Appearance:
Like most batarians, the defining feature for Bralya is his two pairs of eyes and cartilage ridges. His skin is lighter than many batarians, having a grayish brown hue. He wears polished bladed armor that looks like it would fit with any turian army, and sometimes wears a blue hood, either for fashion, stealth, or warmth. He has several piercings in his ears from his early mercenary days, and carries several scars. I mean, few batarians make it through basic training with blade armor without gaining a handful of scars.

In conversation, Bralya carries himself with an air of arrogance. Despite turians usually exceeding his two-meter tall frame, Bralya tends to overshadow many meeker turians just by sheer force of will. On the battlefield, Bralya moves quickly, using small pushes of his biotics to traverse short distances and his charge to bullrush enemies. His presence is almost a mix between a ghost and a bulldozer. Bralya is hard to pin down as he constantly charges between targets, and harder to kill as his charge bolsters his barriers and his armor slows down incoming damage. He is every human’s worst nightmare.

History:
Bralya grew up on the batarian homeworld of Khar’shan. In his youth, he was a decent kid: studied hard, made his parents proud, got into a fine university. But that wasn't enough for Bralya. He needed danger, adventure. He joined the military, got kicked out of the military, got involved with a local group of thugs, and found himself on the wrong side of the Hegemony. Rather than face the music, Bralya fled Khar’shan and claimed sanctuary in Palaven.

Still sore about the skirmishes on Enael, the turian government agreed to grant asylum under the condition that Bralya aid the turians in their self-defense efforts. Not being one to sit around and let some aliens tell him how to live his life, he did his best to find loopholes and shortcuts, claiming ignorance when Palaven caught him in the act. He joined an all-turian mercenary band for a while, claiming he thought they were an independent militia wing. He helped a turian create bombs to use in a terrorist attack against the Citadel, claiming he never knew what the target was.

Eventually, he came across Proctor, a turian after his own heart. Smart, conniving, and with a seemingly endless supply of cash, Proctor hired him to be a bodyguard several years ago. Apparently the gruesome experiments performed were all sanctioned by the turian government, or at least that is what Bralya chose to believe. Some of the particulars of the science exceeded Bralya’s training (well, most of it), but the exchange piqued his curiosity as well as his need for adventure. Eventually, Bralya would come to help Proctor in his experiments, and the turian became the closest thing to a friend that Bralya had for nearly a decade. But that was likely due to the credits that kept pouring into his bank account.

Talents:
  • Biotic Charge - Smash into a target while encased in this biotic barrier, leveling your opponents. Invulnerable while this power is in effect. Refreshes barriers.
  • Lash - Latch this biotic field onto enemies to jerk them towards you, doing massive damage in the process.
  • Blade Armor - Reinforce armor with razor-sharp blades that damage enemies that melee. Less damage taken. More melee damage dealt.
  • Biotic Dash - Dash a short distance with a biotic blink.

Equipment
  • Batarian Blade Armor - Armor reinforced with razor-sharp blades to keep enemies at bay and augment physical power.
  • Biotic Implant - Augments biotic abilities.
  • Light shotgun - If the dash, charge, punch combo didn't kill ya, how about a shotgun blast to the face?
  • Enforcement Gauntlets - Pack a heavy punch with this gauntlet outfitted with an omni-blade.

Other:
Bralya actually follows a sort of code of honor that he picked up while with several mercenary groups. 1) Never rat out your employer. 2) Never get too attached. 3) Give your employer a chance to counter an offer, potentially at shotgun point. 4) Never turn down free credits.
@GeneralNox You still owe me the extra 500 credits per month. I said nothing. :D
This game is intended to run parallel to Ermine's Beginner's Game. As such, it uses many of the same rules and formats as that group. For convenience, I'll copy most of that info here.

I'll put up the OOC here, I guess. Just so we have it. Most of the stuff is going to be based on the characters, so the rest of the info has to wait. I'll make a homebrewery "book" once we have some more information, since I can hold all we need on there AND make it pretty.

Homebrewery Article: All the public information I have collected about our world and characters.

If anyone wants to playtest the classes and stuff I converted/made: It's right here. I don't really expect anyone to do so. Obviously. And if you DO, expect lots of changes throughout. It doesn't have everything I've made for 5e so far (like the hexslinger fighter archetype, but I know that one's balanced just fine), just the stuff based on Dreamscarred Press' non-psionic stuffs for Pathfinder. (Also, that is what I mean by a "homebrewery book").

Character Creation Steps:
0. We will use Myth-Weavers for our sheets, since they're nice and clean, and don't have excess detail. I may even just copy sheets over to the homebrewery page for us and update as we go.
1. Choose a race for your character. If you don't like any of the races available to you, I'll help you find others, design you what you want, or just say "use the stats for this but it's really this other race." The last one's for if you want a new race, but it would share basically all the abilities of an existing race. Subraces are also an option, of course.
2. Choose a class you want for your character. See #1 for other stuffs related to that.
3. Allocate ability scores. We will be using the standard set instead of rolling (my favorite) or point-buy solely for simplicity. This means you will put these numbers in whichever ability score (strength, dexterity, etc) you wish: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. This step can be Step 1 if you prefer, but having the other two steps first makes it easier to decide where to put them, unless you have a clear idea in mind.
4. Choose a background for your character. Again, perfectly willing to work with you to make another, but they cover most of what you'd probably want just fine.
5. If there's anything you want to buy, you get some starting gold from both your background and class (the class gold is listed in the equipment chapter) with which to buy stuff. Both because of #7 instead of the usual "either."
6. I will roll a random trinket for you to start with. Go ahead and attach whatever meaning you want to it. If you end up with a silver raven statuette, for example, maybe you worship the Raven Queen (which is not listed in the book for some reason, but is an unaligned goddess of death, and seasonal goddess of winter), or killed someone who worshiped her, or maybe you were saved by a mysterious stranger who gave it to you. Maybe it has no meaning and it's just something fun you have (I personally like the square of fabric that unfolds into a stylish hat, which is even funnier because the person who has it in our group is the dragonborn). It may not even have meaning or be interesting at all to your character. I'd really prefer it wasn't this last one, so I'll reroll if it's something you absolutely do not want. Keep in mind, they're usually not particularly useful.
7. We're starting at 3rd level. Use your class's suggested HP (so for classes with a d10 hit die, this is 6) per level, adding Constitution as normal.

At any point during this list, feel free to describe your character. The minimum, of course, is an age, height, weight, hair/skin/scale/feather/whatever color, and sex. Can expand with gender, sexual orientation, notable scars, notable birthmarks, a picture, etc. We do want to know what your character looks and acts like. Thankfully, the "what your character acts like" part can potentially be covered with random rolls from your background.

I am also fine with using Unearthed Arcana and third-party information. Please be aware that anything that is not explicitly in the PHB is subject to potential balance changes. As of right now, there are 4 people in the party. I am comfortable running with at least 6 PCs.

Similar to Ermine's plans, I will run all combat in a DM post. Please PM me (here or on Discord) or post on the Discord channel with any rolls I request. Also, please request a roll prior to making it (unless it's in combat and your turn, in which case, please finish your turn as soon as you are able).

Thanks, and I hope to make this a fun and engaging campaign!
