Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

There is a lot of info in that CS that I don't recognize from 5e. For example, "mutilated" and the spells used. Where did you get your info? None of it appears to be from Unearthed arcana. Also, starting with 5+ magic items at lvl 1 is a bit unheard of.
@Daemanis Character Sheet on Dice Cloud. Mostly done, will need to add in Description.
@Regitnui Myth-Weavers has rather concise sheets that you can share with people. They're not my favorite 5e sheets out there, but they get the job done.

Thank you. Anyone over 5 hp should be fine, then. :)

I would point out that healing generally costs a spell slot or an hour of downtime, and spell slots at lvl 1 are rather rare. Dealing half of an ally's HP during their first meeting is an unlikely way to gain friends.
@JBRam2002
Wait.. punching doesn't count as a "martial weapon", right?

Actually, unarmed attacks do not count as weapon attacks in general. Everyone is proficient with their own punches though. (Info from Errata)
@Regitnui
Good we don't have any of those yet.. oh, wait.. stares at necromancer and flexes 16 STR

@JBRam2002
Doesn't level one allow you to create some cool backstory changes?

@Cu Chulainn
Reason i'm asking is a character flaw of mine. Orc + dragon makes for really evil first meetings.....

All characters choose a background, regardless of what level they start at. Also, a punch will deal 1 + STR mod on a hit, unless you have a feat or monk levels. Even at +3, that's only 4 damage. I suggest not doing that due to our low HP though.
So is there anyone here that would die from a single basic punch? (because of their unique character build, for example)

As the first level guarantees max HP rolls, unless you take a negative Con mod, that's unlikely. However, everyone except a barbarian could die (not just be KO'd) from a crit or a lvl 2 spell that has good damage rolls, unless they have excellent Con. And nearly everyone can be KO'd by a good dice roll on damage.

For example, the spell Shatter can deal 3d8 thunder damage in a 10 ft AoE. A well-placed Shatter at average damage would KO anyone who fails their save if their HP is 12 or so. That's a fighter with +2 Con. At max damage, it would kill most of the players outright and KO anyone else. Lvl 2 spells on CR 1 enemies are not rare.

My concern is less with survivability, and more with the fact that lvl 1 play is simply boring. Monks, Rangers, Paladins, and Druids don't even unlock their primary features at lvl 1. Most other classes don't even begin to be interesting until lvl 3 or 5. And casters get either 2 spells per long rest or 1 per short rest if a warlock. The only classes that are effective are the ones the party has gone with: barbarian, rogue, warlock, and also fighter. Potentially bard and monk, but their effectiveness is limited significantly.
@DaemanisThis could be interesting. I'd like to express concern with starting at lvl 1. Characters are far more likely to be randomly killed, and casters feel almost entirely useless. I know nothing about this module, so it might be interesting to try it. But I have DM'd several games in the past.

It seems the party is missing a rogue. I could roll one up. Are we using the array for scores?
This gnome seemed to have a hard time carrying a conversation, but for all Katia's distrust, he seemed more absentminded than malicious. She entered the inn with some hesitation. She preferred the stars and a tree's canopy to be her roof at night rather than the remnant of man's wanton destruction of old growth or beast, but safety in this strange world was of greater value than her personal comfort or preferances.

At Wick's statement, Katia's expression grew from trepidation to terror. Being trapped in this building was not a plan she was happy with, but she simply nodded to her friend. "If you believe it necessary, milya," Katia repled, her voice much smaller than before.

She approached the gnome and held the aforementioned item up. She had no intentions of allowing the gnome to take it from her, and thus would hold it out of his reach if he attempted to snatch it. "Would you be so kind as to explain this item?" she asked. "I've been calling it a Soul Stone, but that's only a guess. When some Really Big Crows attacked us, they turned into these gems when we attacked them. Do you think we could summon them back to aid us?"
