Section #1: Jig Being Right

It has come to my attention, that I am primarily right and drunk.

Jig is completely right.

Jig is right.

[11.01.50] Gowi:

Jig is right. Feel free to send that along.

[Jig is] 100% correct.

Jig was right 8 months ago, and is still right.

I love you, Jig. It's because you're Always Right™.

Once again, Jig is absolutely right about this.

Where is Jig when I need to vent about politics?
Drunk.

The mighty Jig is of course right.

Section #2: Jig's RP's

I'm not post-dating RP's I've been in that died out of nowhere and I've basically forgotten about, so here are my present ones.

Current:

Previous:

Wolf Manor (GM)

Wink Murder (GM)

Project Rehab (Player)

The Kidnapping (Player)

Wink murder: Who Killed Mr. Jig? (GM)

Finite Incantatem (Co-GM)

Honestly, I feel like lots of players don't know what meta-gaming is. It's a more complex 'don't' rule than godmoding, because it's hard to know whether you're doing it or not; it's much easier to tell if you're controlling somebody's character than making sure you're working with the correct body of knowledge (your character's, rather than your own). Honestly, if somebody meta-games in your RP, make sure they understand what meta-gaming actually is, and then ask them to not do it. Sometimes they'll be fine with it; othertimes, they'll try to justify their bullshit.

I was once in a game on another forum with a player who, with no means of telling and no reason to suspect, instantly wheeled on my character, who was secretly withholding information from the group, to ask if there might be anything he wasn't sharing. This was based on my character's private thoughts from my post and no actual clues. When I pointed this out, I was told that their character was "very complex". There was nothing that I could really do, certainly not from a player's perspective, to stop their nonsense, so in the end I just made my excuses and invited somebody to kill my character off.

As a GM, my general rule is that I look for a minimum writing standard (spelling, grammar, originality) but a slightly higher 'attitude standard'. If I think somebody is going to be bullish, uncompromising, incorrigible or inactive, I don't accept them into my RP's. Obviously this is difficult to gage, but if you can do a bit of research on your players, you can see how they write and also how they respond to constructive criticism. Also stick 'no meta-gaming' in any 'rules' section your game might have, so that, if you see it, you can refer to the rules and not have to argue about whether it was right or wrong; it was wrong, because it says not to do it in the rules.

As for the second situation, there really isn't anything you can do about that other than vetting every idea your players come up with, and you won't get very far like that!

Our favorite when we have doubts about a player and/or character?

Run their character through the Mary Sue Test. If it goes above 30 or so, its not good. Optimally, it should be well below that too.

It doesn't help with assessing a player's writing ability; only whether their character is clichéd or not, surely?
This RP will actually take place in the Advanced Section, but should be considered 'High Casual' in terms of what I expect from you guys, so don't be scared of the Advanced Section!

Tl;dr

In a nutshell, Mr. Jig has discovered your deepest, darkest secret, and invites you to his pad with some other secretive strangers to chew the fat - and to threaten them with blackmail.

The thing is, Mr. Jig is going to die, and one of you is going to kill him – and only the killer will know who he or she is. Mr. Jig was going to blackmail all of you: and you all had the opportunity, motive, and means.

Can you clear your name of murder without the real murderer turning his or her sights onto you?

How it works:

Public OoC knowledge in this is going to be extremely scarce. There will be three main sources of information; things established in the IC; information I provide in the OoC section; and information I secretly PM to you personally. Apart from these tidbits, you’re going to be on your own.

There will be no public character sheets, and few points at which I give direct guidance on what will happen (though setting up at the beginning may be a little more guided, until Mr. Jig has died). Each of you will PM me a Character Sheet, and indicate in that PM whether or not you would like to be the murderer. Out of the candidates, I will secretly select one and inform them via PM that they are indeed the killer. I will also PM the rest of you to tell you that you are all innocent.

The murderer and I will be in constant communication over the course of the game: obviously, in order to keep their identity secret, the player will not be able to write anything that might incriminate them, so I will do the dirty work for them: rather than explicitly writing what their character does, they will tell me via PM, and I will arrange for clues to be found among the rest of you. It probably sounds a bit bonkers, but trust me: this will work. I’m currently running an RP (Wolf Manor, also in Advanced) in a similar fashion. The only difference here is that one of you guys did it.

Who it’s for:

You probably already know whether or not this game is for you. It’s not like many games on these forums; you’re going to be in the dark and under threat. You won’t know what’s going on at any one time. I will be lying to you. The other players will probably be lying to you. At the same time, the close nature of the RP means we’re all going to be working closely together and constantly and secretly discussing OoC information and probably writing a fair few collaborations.

Because it will take place in a very closed environment with a small cast and no way to add new characters, I really want you to be committed to this if you choose to take part, especially if you want to be the murderer. That and basic writing ability (accurate spelling and grammar) are really my only criteria for accepting people to this. If I get more than six people interested, I will choose according to who I think has the best attitude to this game – ie, who I think will stick around.

Please please please don’t be scared of the Advanced Section. If you’re one of those people who would like to graduate to High Casual or Advanced but have been a bit timid, I would go so far as to say that this might be the perfect game for you: as a GM, I talk a lot to my players and am always open to giving help or advice to people that ask for it. Because there will be a small cast that you’ll be working closely with, there won’t be any risk of ‘losing you in the crowd’ like there might be in a larger game, and things won’t run off without you. The reason this is in Advanced is because of the level of behind-the-scenes stuff and planning that will go into it – it has nothing to do with writing ability or arbitrary length of posts. Don’t be scared of Advanced! If you can log in most days, even if it’s only to say “Hi, I’m still here” and have basic spelling and grammar down, you’re golden.

Questions and Clarifications:

I am completely aware that so far, this IntChk has been sketchy on the details. It’s been much more about how the game will run than what will actually happen, but hopefully you can see why; much of the plot will come from youse, and I’m still working on the more general elements like setting. It will be set either within a few decades of the present day or just in the present day, and will take a lot of cues from cliché murder mysteries.

If you’re raring to go, please note that, until things are set in stone, I’m not giving you a sheet or anything to work with (because I’m not yet sure precisely what information I’m looking for), but you can by all means think about what your character’s dirty secret is or ask me any questions you might have.

Eagle-eyed Eurovision fans among you might spot that Mr. Jig’s faceclaim is the guy that represented Belgium this year.

Sheet:

I really can't accommodate more than six players, so I'm going to choose people based on the sheets they send me, because that seems to be the only fair way. I'm still tweaking things in my mind, so feel free to be perhaps a little more general in the specifics of the sheet than you might otherwise be inclined to be. If you have any questions about the RP that you simply must ask before you broach the sheet, ask away. It would be really really really unbelievably great if I could get all of the sheets in by Friday/Saturday, because we can't really move on until we know who we're moving on with.

Sup mods. I know this is for suggestions/problems and not questions, but I'm not sure what forum policy is on this:

I'm planning an RP for the Advanced Section. The reason it's in Advanced is because it's a 'detailed plan'/'think before do' game rather than a 'write a billion paragraphs of perfect English' game, so I kinda feel like it should be open to players in casual if they get on board with the game's style, as it explicitly states in the IntChk. Would it therefore be legit to post an Ad for it in the casual section's IntChk page as well, even if there's no version of the game actually taking place there?
What about just the positive version? Like, instead of being able to downvote somebody for being unreliable, you could maybe upvote people who are? Instead of having it on a graded scale, it could just be the literal number of people that have gone, "Yep, this person is solid enough to endorse". It's much less outspoken, but does mark out those people who have a positive history of sticking around, without threatening to backfire unfairly on those who do drop out for whatever reason.

It also feels a lot friendlier and supportive, rather than judgemental. Just like we have Likes, Thanks and Laughs, and not "I think this user is a prick" and "Not as funny as the user thought it was".
also what is the difference in taking part of your rp and someone elses since i am here and curious

It's mostly just how much control you have over the RP.

In somebody else's game, the only thing you control is your own character.

When you're taking part in your own game, you also (usually) control your own character/s, but you should be paying lots of attention to the overall RP and seeking, through actions both in the OoC and IC sections, to guide the overall game.
Dutch syrup-waffle cookie things for the munchies

Stroopwafelen!

I fuckin' love me some stroopwafelen.

Basically, you've had the best weekend. I'm surprised you came back.

Edit:

Next time you're high: frozen grapes. Trust me. You can munch through a bunch without worrying about eating total shit, and you're forced to eat them slowly so you don't freeze your teeth so you can be munching constantly for about an hour and a half/two hours with a decent-sized bunch.

Also, and still trust me, really bland Dutch cheese (think Edam, Maasdam), with Oreos. They taste really wrong until they start to moosh together into creamy creamy goodness.

Edit:

Please be aware of my sig. I have an exam tomorrow that won't go well (and there's nothing I can do about it) and an exam on Wednesday that probably won't go well, but if I don't sleep and spend all night revising, there's a chance I can pull through.

Either way, I'm going to be sleep-deprived, pissed off, and wall-crawlingly smashed off my boobs by Wednesday night, so we may have to wait until the weekend for normal service to resume. Hopefully it won't be a repeat performance of three weeks ago, but, you know, it probably will.

On the plus side, my bleeding, blistered fingers are coming up with the most incredible callouses. When my third finger is done, I'm pretty sure it'll be able to deflect bullets.

Edit #47434304:

So, I can't sleep before my exam because plot bunnies were chasing me. The result was this. This isn't just a plug (though it is a little bit if you're not done with the whole 'Jig lies to me and bitches when I'm not told what to do then do something that I was later told was unexpected' thing and have more spare time for it) but also a reassurance that Wink Murder doesn't mean I'm bored with you guys or Wolf or anything and a promise that Wolf won't suffer as a result.
Sup kids, sorry I've not been around. Have been gigging all weekend, which was an experience:

  • Tore my fingers open while playing on Friday: had a recording and another gig on Saturday. Saturday's gig lasted three hours. I literally have holes/blisters where my finger tips used to be. Also, my left arm has basically seized up at this point: my right hand can't grip things and my left arm can't support weight or supply pressure. I basically don't have arms.
  • Dropped my phone in my pint. It's still in a coma.
  • Got hit on in the touchiest-feeliest way possible by a guy that I later found out has a wife and kids.
  • Accidentally stole a passenger's phone on the train and had to fork out to send it back to him.
  • Could not find a decent apple for love nor money.

Will catch up on this this evening, because I have to sort my shit to head back to uni.

Would it be ideal to arrive as the Ashes are assembling in Bristol? Or is there anticipated room to say that they (or at least Liam, since I don't want to drag Feisty along if they don't want to be) can arrive in the clutch as back up or nearer to secure the final escape at the end of the mission?

Have you spoken to McH about how your characters know where the Ashes/David will be or how they won't assume your characters are enemies rather than allies and end up fighting them?

Those things really should be cleared up before we run into this.
Happy birthday! ♫

And no. Deal with it.
