Amy Desire, PE: Fortunately, there was enough time between Armory and PE for Amy to change. Still not enough to go by her dorm, but enough to grab her gym clothes out of her locker, hurtle into a bathroom stall, and change quickly. Out of the cutoff jeans and into athletic shorts. To be honest, didn't make that much of a difference in how much of her was covered, but it had other benefits. Not the least of which was looking halfway normal. Well, as normal as any half-Faunus that looked like Amy in exercise clothes could look. Speaking of a lack of normalcy... Amy recognized that flurry of red hair. And quite a lot of the rest of that woman. "Diamond Frost. Imagine... seeing you here." The glance that went once over her entire body was almost imperceptible.

IC: The tension fell out of Amy's shoulders, her shield retracting as she breathed a sigh of relief. Her Semblance went completely out of her, the world seeming to dull as her senses returned to normal levels. She nodded at Chatsworth and returned to her seat, picking up the other sleeve of her weapon just in time for Chatsworth to return. Sapphire came dashing in a few seconds before the Professor returned, but Amy didn't say anything. Turned out not to matter, anyway, Amy reflected as the drone tipped him off. She stood again, making sure she had picked up all of her stuff. No detention. That's what mattered to her. Not the professor's compliments, not any stupid feelings of heroism. No detention. She wasn't in trouble, her team wasn't in trouble. PE was next, and... Ben was there, if she remembered right. At least she knew him. And hopefully it wouldn't explode as much as armory had.

I have not read Paranatural, but that idea is fine. <Snipped quote by Kaithas> I'd like to make a comparison between Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail and Pyro of X-Men. Natsu has an innate magical power, allowing him to create fire. Pyro must rely on preexisting sources for fire, like a lighter, but he can manipulate those flames. At the end of the day, both are shooting fire. If you judge that a different fuel source makes it sufficiently different (and interesting), you're free to go ahead with it. I expect that her physical 'transformation' helps makes this difference; perhaps you could outline for us what she looks like with her semblance fully engaged.

I plan on it. The fundamental, crucial difference is that Rowan's is transformative and Yang's is just a special aura.

Name: Rowan Iderson

Age: 25 (Teacher)

Gender: Female

Race: Human (Atlesian nationality)

Weapon: In its normal mode, the Death’s Sting is a sleek, brown camouflage, double barreled rifle with a rotating magazine, each magazine filled with a different kind of Dust powered slug. The weapon is also capable of transforming into two pistols, each getting half of the rotating magazines, or a double barreled shotgun.

Armor: Because running into combat wearing nothing but a school uniform is a terrible idea no matter how sweet the leather jacket you’re wearing over it looks, Rowan wears light body armor. Capable of turning away light weapons and the claws and teeth of weaker Grimm, its plating is paired with plastic coated aramid fibers, providing improved resistance to small arms fire and elemental effects, as well as impact cushioning. While teaching, she seldom wears the accompanying helmet, but when locked to her armor it protects her head from opportunistic attacks and allows for thermal vision as well as filtration of air. An ammunition belt travels around her waist, automatically rotating when a holster has been emptied. Furthermore, cocking her hip in a certain way launches a cartridge upward out of it, capable of being combined with her semblance to be caught in the slot of her gun and reloaded.

Semblance: Lock-On
As long as her Semblance is active, Rowan’s Gold Stripes-trained accuracy is heightened to superhuman levels, allowing her to strike with mechanical precision, perfectly aim thrown weapons, and pull off feats of marksmanship that are impossible to imitate.

As her military training went on, Rowan’s semblance further developed and gained two additional, passive functionalities. Under ordinary circumstances, Rowan’s blows and bullets drain additional Aura from the target, replenishing hers and doing extra damage. If she’s instead out of ammunition, she can create ammo out of Aura.

Personality: Brusque and professional in the classroom, Rowan’s ordinary attitude is a standoffish one. Her expectations are high, but simple and laid out in her class syllabus, expectations she generally doesn’t deviate from. Student opinion on her is divided, some who love her consistent, military approach, some who theorize that she’s just ectoplasm crammed into a bodysuit.

Those who take the time to know her outside of class, however, find a different side of her: while she still keeps everyone at a distance, she’s a good and loyal friend. She’ll listen to your problems, offer the best advice she can… But getting a peek into her own is nigh impossible unless she’s particularly vulnerable at the time. Her attitude toward relationships is a casual one, often seeming more as if her partner is just a particularly good friend rather than anything more.

Color: Deep, deep brown.

I invented the semblance post personality, I'll flesh the personality out more as I get a feel for the character. I've read Yang's semblance, and to be honest, Rowan's isn't that similar.

Yang's Semblance manifests itself in the form of fire, which emanates from her hair. With it she has the ability to absorb energy from the damage she's taken, and redirect it at her opponent, effectively making her stronger with each hit. Her ability also causes her eyes to change color from violet to red, which is a "side-effect" of her Semblance.[3] When using her Semblance, she draws power from her hair.[4] Monty Oum has compared Yang's semblace to a "Power Meter" from fighting games.[5]

-RWBY Wiki Rowan gathers power from her own emotional state, not the attacks of enemies, and she has natural armor instead of just nullifying their attacks. It's not as powerful, but Rowan doesn't require actual physical trauma to use it.

Semblance: Physical Ascendancy When her semblance is activated by extreme rage or choice, Rowan’s body transforms, her skin hardening, muscles strengthening, and mind functioning with a higher speed. It also gives a temporary boost to the strength of her aura, though any aura power drained while in this state will be repaid all at once when she drops out of it. The strength (and energy drain) is directly proportional to the rage Rowan feels while using Physical Ascendancy: At her current maximum limit, the natural armor allows her to shrug off small knife wounds and her increased strength lets her punch through a wall with little effort. After dropping out of the state at that level of rage, however, she’ll pass out immediately. She can also trigger this ability at will with little side effects, but it is far, far weaker, only allowing her to prevent small bruises and granting a small strength increase. Personality: To most who don’t know her, Rowan seems to be a gruff, insensitive woman who doesn’t really care for anyone who interferes with her. Her students know that is completely false. Rowan is a hard teacher, make no mistake, but she’s a very protective, caring person–almost like a mother grizzly. She has funny ways of showing it, and will often get the more sensitive of her students to crying, but there is no doubt that when #### hits the fan, Rowan will be completely on their side.
