Anything you might have a problem with or is he all good to go?
JOHN LOUIS

“Teach”

MOTTO

"Teach people valuable lessons about life, mostly how not to catch a bullet to the head and how not to be a dumbass."

Age:

0 41

Personality:

0 Cautious and Careful
-He likes to take his time, make sure everything is just right.
0 Reserved and Attentive
-He doesn’t talk much, he only talks when he needs to, but he is listening.
0 Truthful, Heavy-Handed, and untactful
-When there’s a problem, he’ll tell it to you straight, no beating around the bush.
0 Irritable, grumpy, easily annoyed
-The dude’s forty one year’s old, just cause he’s reserved doesn’t mean he’s always calm.
0 A Harsh but practical Realist
-He may be a realist and realistically speaking everything is bleak, but he’s reasonable enough to see that it ain’t over yet.

Background:

The old man was an teacher on Engineering and physics, explaining everything from Electrical circuits, batteries, structural Engineering, architecture, all the way to Nuclear physics; he was able to survive from the application of this knowledge and the books that were left abandoned near his place of work which he gathered while evacuating into a safer zone as the entire city he was in was close enough to the edge of the affected area that it was considered a risk.

He was of course decontaminated and quarantined to observe for any ill-effects; thankfully John didn’t show any signs of radiation poisoning, since then he has been trying to improve life for people in his settlement, even going as far as making his own ‘wasteland kit’ for going out into the wastes and scavenging it for anything useful. Because of this, John has more than once encountered dangerous mutants and raiders, he made his own weapons to defend himself and actively hunt problematic denizens of the wastes.

This led him to take on new skills and lessons from the wastes considering that he could’ve died on numerous occasions, he was resourceful enough to stay on his feet and was still fit enough to move around easily, seeing as he kept himself in shape using his own exercise equipment. Eventually, he was hired to do a job that was supposed to kill him but he came back, rumors spread and people started asking things of him, and just like that, he was a merc, he still taught in the settlements trying to keep education alive, it was understandable no one could really afford to be in any type of school at that point, so he did what he could with the books that he had, he even tried to learn chemistry, but he could not understand it to a point where he could apply it, but at the end of the day he was still a Merc and eventually a Devil’s Runner.

Pros

0 Resourceful Craftsman
-If he’s got time and resources, he could make something for you and you could bet your ass it’d work.
0 Fast Learner
-Something that took a normal person days to learn could only take him hours to learn and do proficiently.
0 Meticulous Perfectionism
-Want something done right the first time? He’s the guy you call, he’ll work until everything feels juuust right.

Quirks & Cons

0 Too silent for the dead
-He never talks until he needs to talk, he doesn’t waste precious breath on stupid shit.
0 Mr. Irritable
-When he does talk, it’s often to tell you to shut the hell up or to stop being completely stupid.
0 Anti-Social, Grizzled Veteran
-He’s seen some really fucked up shit happen in the wastes, probably why he doesn’t talk or get close to anybody.

Habits:

0 Reading books
-The Old man is an avid reader of the literary works, from philosophy to fiction, ironic that this is one of the situations that happened in a Sci-fi novel he read.
0 Pacing
-When he’s thinking, nervous, anxious, or even excited about something he instinctively paces; his mood can be determined by the way he paces around and around, over and over.

Equipment

0 Gas Mask.
-Part of the kit.
0 Pneumatic Sniper Rifle
-Fires 15mm steel balls, mag-fed, requires pumping, Scoped 4x zoom, very powerful when the air tank is at full pressure.

0 Homemade Knife
-The Knife is a lot like a machete or a cleaver.
0 Carry pouches
-To carry all his equipment and rations.
0 Tool Kit
-What kind of Engineering and Physics professor doesn't have their own tools?
0 Pistol
-A regular 9mm Plinker, nothing special about this. Useful in tight situations, in fact best side arm he owns until he can find a new one or make his own.

@6slyboy6 Still working on mine, I'll have it up soon later today and it might not be complete yet just saying.
Mutants and danger? CHECK! sci-if setting? CHECK! Badass intro? CHECKERINO! Yup I'm interested in this
@Thecrash20

Actually yes, in the book it is implied that the suits are the reason they're called mobile infantry.

They also have enough strength on their own to punch through concrete walls and crush a tank, their armory was never discussed, however it was mentioned in the book that they have Micro-Nuclear Warheads, they also had flamers, and since we don't have a full armory, we can assume that they have that much firepower, at least the marauder and command variants anyways.

THE PLOT

In an unknown year in the far flung future, mankind wages an interstellar war with a new and terrifying enemy; the Bugs of Klendathu. The Citizen Federation of Earth fights a losing war against the bug as the intelligence corps. attempt to probe the bugs for weaknesses in order to help our fighting men and women gain an edge over our new foe.

On Klendathu

Operation Bughouse, the first large scale offensive against the Bugs on their home planet of Klendathu; the Operation involved landing K-9 and Mobile infantry units on the surface to secure and hold a beachhead to continue the assault, however the invasion failed completely as units were overwhelmed with warriors and were not able to secure any landing zones, the K-9 unit's neodogs blew themselves up against the enemy out of sheer shock leaving the Mobile Infantry without any support, casualties mounted within the hour and for every thousand bugs they killed one Infantry man dies - A net win for the bugs - the situation was getting desperate.

The General in command sounded the retreat, while holding his own unit back to support the retreating units, needless to say, the General 'bought it' that day. Casualties were heavy, it was enough for the Terran Command to reconsider their strategy going forward as the bugs have put them on the back foot for the rest of the war.

You and many others volunteer to fight this new threat, gruelingly trained and armed to the teeth, from our mysterious Intelligence divisions, our powerful navy, all the way to the hard working Mobile Infantry who fight for all man kind. They're doing their part, are you? Become a citizen and Join up to do your part!

THE ROLE-PLAY SETTING

You and the rest of the group will be playing as part of the Mobile Infantry in a squad in the company of Erik's Eagles a fan made company similar to that in the book or the movies as Rasczack's Roughnecks aboard the transport corvette TFCT Magsaysay in honor of the book's main protagonist Juan 'Johnny' Rico who was (in the book) Filipino who said that there should be a ship named after Magsaysay.

We will be playing as Cap Troopers, meaning we get to drop out of ships like paratroopers. This will be for those who've read the book, watched the films, and have seen the animated series, I had envisioned this to be a combination of some elements from each, using the book as a heavy basis.

What this means is that the bugs will be intelligent, capable of making some kind of technology and using a variety of strategies in order to win, whilst still taking prisoners of war, using swarm tactics, and the capability to interrogate prisoners and take their knowledge through psychic means either through persuasion or force rather than sucking out their brains (Which I'm pretty sure doesn't work biologically speaking either)

The skinnies will be in this too, an ally to the Federation at this point in time; though unlike in the Animated series they would have been persuaded by the Terran Federation to break ties with the bugs, rather than the bugs forcibly taking control of them.

The Terran Federation will be using the fleet, and there will be more than one kind of ship for the Terran Federation to engage with Bug Fleets, in the book there were no indication on how the bugs fought the Federation in space; all that is known is that the bugs used missile weaponry for their navy and could go toe-to-toe with Federation ships as they were able to plaster Buenos Aires.

As in the films we will be using them as a basis for the Bug's heavy artillery and what their vehicles would look like and function, as such the bugs could have giant mechanized versions of the Tanker or the Plasma bug, and their explosives like the Bombardier beetle could be an anti-personnel grenade flung from one of these mechs or perhaps the bug warriors themselves, hoppers and Kamikazes can be replaced with bug aircraft that shoot beam weapons.

(Note that the mechanization is intended for their vehicles and weapons platforms, they are not gigantic suits of armor that will cover a giant bug.)

Many of the worlds from the animated series will be featured and some of the campaigns will really test how creative we can get with the given material, but as far as possible I want to be able to reach the second invasion of Klendathu. The role-play perspective will be that of one squad in a platoon of Erik's Eagles company, which is one in fifty squads of an entire company, being part of the first platoon, first section, led by Erik himself.

THE CHARACTERS AND THE SUITS

Since we don't know what the regular section composition is, however I wager to guess the open spots will be

-One Command Suit
-Sergeant
-Five Marauder Suits
-PSC to Corporal
-Three Scout Suits
-PFC to Corporal

The suits look like Steel gorillas, they enhance many things from strength, jumps, and spacial awareness.
They come with an array of communications devices that can switch channels by using your mouth to bite down on a button to switch frequencies, bite down once for channel A, twice for B, and so on. The suits function much like a jumper, with many specialized pressure sensors on the inside, allowing the suit to move like you move, allowing for mobility and ease of use, as you don't have to learn a completely new set of maneuvers or controls. It's basically a full suit body armor, but the armor is like a second skin that moves with you.

To fully prepare a suit for use out of storage would take 26 hours at most, fitting it to the person meant to use it would take additional time, so some troopers have learned to keep a few spare suits hot, taking them out of their cold state.

The weapons for the suits can range from conventional slug throwers all the way to mini-nukes launched from a Y-rack, marauders would be equipped with weapons, from heavy machine guns, to rocket launchers, scouts and command suits get the same amount of weaponry, the scout suits have less communication equipment than the Command suits which have the ability to communicate across all sections and platoons in the company where all other suits get only three frequencies to communicate with; the command suits can also monitor everyone's vital signs, allowing for the Squad Leader to account for all living troopers in his area, vital signs can also be monitored by pressing a button on the belt buckle of the suits.

The troopers also have a various arsenal of grenades, one engineered to smoke out bug holes with bio and chemical gasses, another just for the regular explosives, they also have listening equipment so that when they make camp, they can listen to the bugs digging under them.

The suits have the ability to jump long distances, depending on the gravitational constant of the planet, it could also be akin to flying as the distances you can jump like this are great.

Only a few things are standard for every trooper, that is a flamer and a combat knife, useful for close combat as you don't have to aim much in such tight quarters, the troopers can also go hand to hand in their suits and they are also radiation resistant to a point.

Now take note, that for each campaign and mission we will be switching loadouts from time to time, We could be bringing peewees (Term for mini-nukes) or high powered explosives to seal off bug holes, or grenade launchers, etc.

Without further ado here is the CS, however, keep in mind I am looking for people who will be active with their posts and will inform the group ahead of time if he or she will be away for a significant amount of time so that I or the player in question can quietly write him or her out for a while for continuity's sake, or tell us if you're post is delayed or if you're waiting for someone in particular to post, if you can't do this simple thing DO NOT JOIN THIS RP or I WILL be forced to remove you, I don't want that hassle. In addition, I also expect at least or more than three paragraphs of text, none-less.

Another rule is that I can and will auto hit a few of you using the bugs to catch out unlucky souls, I will not intend to kill you off, but it will injure your character and it will force everyone else to have carrying actions in order to save you. NO TROOPER LEFT BEHIND, otherwise if you're the type who likes making new characters, you can ask me to get you shot or RP yourself getting shot, I like a little bit of Drama in the RP so plus points on you if you can make that happen.

Final rule is that all bugs are fair game, but when we meet the bigger machines that the bugs make, we will have to do some actual RP Combat, that means no auto-hitting the big bugs or I will give consequences that may cause your Character to 'buy it'. There are exceptions to this, such as having a nuke, but then there are times where we can't use a nuke, when in that situation refer to this rule.

If you're good with all that, then by all means fill up the CS, and again I stress this fact. DO NOT DO IT IF YOU CAN'T COMMIT, that is all.

Would you like to know more?
The Virginians divvied their estates while the governing body allotted pieces of land to be used for various things, from agricultural sectors, to business sectors, to the occasional trade and market sectors. It was not unusual to run into large nomadic communities, they often had much to share, information perhaps, knowledge to improve a starting civilization, and the rest of the sectors were used for housing and communities; statues were erected from large stones depicting the bravery of the new pioneers that found this land for the people of New Virginia.

Lee was pleased with this progress, he felt somewhat responsible – a catalyst of sorts for human advancement – he glanced at his metallic fingers stretching them out as far as he could and for once felt purpose as he closed his fingers and balled his hand into a fist turning it to face him, he felt accomplished. He glanced back outside the new government building which was still somewhat primitive by some standards as it was partially constructed out of wood and Limestone – they had foresight to keep some sections unfinished for further renovations when needed – most of the concrete buildings were overtaken or simply unusable, so they had to build completely from scratch, using the old-world buildings as a key to layout the new structures.

Just then Cook opened the creaky wooden door, stamping his boots on a fur hide that they used as some sort of welcome mat.

“Lee.” He spoke, greeting his Android friend, “Cook.” Lee responded returning Wilson’s greeting, “How goes the Frontier?” Lee tenuously asked, Wilson sat down and grabbed the bottle next to it and a cup, both made from clay hardened into tapestry; he poured himself a swig of an alcoholic beverage that he frequented and enjoyed, he downed a cup and placed it back onto the table only to pour more of the beverage.

“The Frontier, went as well as you’d expect…” Wilson finally replied, he scowled at the memories of his journey to the Frontiers, now designated as the West Virginian Frontier, the Eastern Frontier, the Northern Frontier, and the Carolinian frontiers, no one had reached farther than a Kilometer, but there are parts of the Frontiers that can be settled – Just not immediately – people in New-Richmond were still building up their strength and a community; Wilson knew that moving would cause too much trouble for the already troubled folks here in the capital especially while there were bandits around.

Lee turned his head to look at the Virginian, the pressures of expanding territory and expectations were starting to weigh on Wilson, Lee didn’t even need to ask as his Empathy matrix kicked in. “So… Another expedition gone?” his voice was sullen, as if he went down to the doldrums, the artificial emotions almost indistinguishable from the real ones that Wilson portrayed way before the Virginians even became a small nation. “The Expedition went well, the way home did not… Bandits… Again… No banner, no allegiance.” Wilson downed another cup and sighed heavily.

Lee walked over and extended his hand towards the comfortably sat Wilson – Wilson looked at the arm extended with good intentions; a pregnant pause before anything was said, Wilson looked up at Lee, “I think it’s time that the Armed Forces started to look into this.” Lee stated, Wilson grabbed his hand as Lee pulled him up lumbering to their feet, Wilson nodded and briefly stated, “I’ll get General Hazel, I want these lands cleared, if we want to even make the place even remotely habitable.”; Lee nodded in agreement, the Bandits were to be hunted and crushed.

Wilson wrote up a letter for both the 1st New-Richmond Cavalry and some of the other close by regiments to head to Harrisonburg, another one of the rediscovered territories that wasn’t blown to hell.

General Hazel,

The Frontiers have proven difficult for the independent expeditionary pioneers, the Harrisonburg Sapper regiment is ready to assist at a moment’s notice, however their ranks are not completely filled out, much like yours.

They are in need of more men, that is why some of the New-Jamestown sappers will be reinforcing them, along with a handful of cavalry, the infantry militia regiments from the various regions going towards the Northern frontier are also willing to help if you so choose to ask for aid.

I expect the Northern Frontier to be cleared of Bandits and a scouting report to be handed to me after this armed expeditionary mission, you of all people are the most qualified to lead this expeditionary force, expect the bandits to be on horseback they’ve been sighted all over the Northern Frontier.

I hope you can complete this task, God Speed.
Wilson Cook, 1st President of the New Virginian Confederacy.

Wilson put down the piece of parchment, barely modern printing paper and the method of writing was quite primitive, resorting to feathered quill and ink. “That should settle that, they should be able to begin their march tomorrow.” Lee observed the Human writing, it reminded him of bits and pieces of memories that had been deleted by his system as a last ditch attempt to save the doomed Android. “Lee? Are you alright?” Wilson waved his hand in front of Lee’s face testing the Android’s Cognition skills. “I think…” Lee answered after a pregnant pause, “No need to worry, but we need to get those bandits out of the Northern Frontier if we want to gain better building materials”

Some of the quarries and mines lay abandoned all over the Appalachian stretch in Virginia, some were retaken after the humans started gaining strength, it provided them with various types of material, from coal, slate, limestone, Granite, etc. but these were small deposits, and there was more out in the frontiers, the Eastern Frontier had been explored, but difficult to settle due to the many ruined cities and the uneven terrain left behind by the Superweapons that crippled humanity.

“The Eastern regions would also be a great place to expand, but I’d like to take the mountainous areas first, then check the western face, before expanding west.” Wilson made reference to an old map, somewhat inaccurate as most of the cities depicted are now but holes in the ground, he nodded and called it a day handing the letter to Lee to be passed on by the Virginian Courier service, in place to serve as the main mode of communication until they can reinvent something better.

Lee walked outside, in his hand the rolled up piece of parchment, he considered that harm and death would come to those that would receive this letter; the letter itself contained the seal of the Confederate constitution – still somewhat shaky due to the nation being somewhat new – Lee could feel an overwhelming urge to just throw it away, he hadn’t the faintest clue why, as if he wanted to avoid the bloodshed, just then a boy shouted his name, “Lee sir!” the bellowing voice sounded, “Need a letter delivered?”

Lee simply nodded and handed it off to the young courier, “Bring it to general Hazel, he’s at the New-Richmond barracks. You should be able to find him in his office.” The boy nodded and simply dashed out of sight to deliver the letter to General Hazel of the New-Richmond Garrison – One things for sure – Lee figured, that there’s going to be a lot of commotion in the frontier in the next few weeks.
@6slyboy6

I got a few races/groups that might fit this RP if and when it comes back, so I might re-use them again along with a few tweaks to truly fit them here.
@6slyboy6

When this comes back at a later date, I might make another race, since having the resistance -NOW THINKING ABOUT IT- doesn't make too much sense, there are probably people who want to deviate from the Empire but they'd be scattered and divided. At least thinking about it, so I dunno, I might make a few tweaks or do something completely different.
@Burning Kitty How come? I had stated that the bugs in the book were intelligent enough to create missiles, beam weapons, and starships capable of rivaling our own, it's not too far of a stretch that perhaps they could've figured out how to mechanize, and it is only for their heavy artillery and defense platforms.

But I digress, are there ways to improve upon this idea, if so, do you have any suggestions?
