Shinjiro Hayata was the son of the legendary Shin Hayata - the first person on Earth to have merged with the mysterious Ultra alien. His father worked for Monarch under the specialized Science Special Search-Party (SSSP) as the vice-captain to Captain Toshio Muramatsu. Their task was to investigate and scout out locations of potential Titan activity and report back their discoveries. During one mission, Shin was out alone scouting in his jet when he suddenly became in the middle of an extraterreastial chase as Ultraman arrived on Earth while pursuing an escapee of the Monster Graveyard; Bemular. During his chase, he and Shin ultimately collided with one another, killing Shin in the process. However, out of remorse, Ultraman gave Hayata his own life and merged their bodies to keep him alive. After Bemular was destroyed, Ultraman stayed to protect Earth from more threats in secret. While he retired from battling the titans, he still served Monarch in their reconnaissance and to battle more "sizable" threats. The SSSP would eventually disband in 1989.
Through the Ultraman Factor, the Ultra Genes were passed down to Shin's son, Shinjiro, who also gained enhanced strength and durability. While he spent an otherwise normal life at school, he never knew the source of his powers - until much later - but struggled to learn how to control it, and on occasion he would go jumping across skyscrapers for fun. At home Shinjiro and his father had started to grow distant due to his abnormal condition. However, Shinjiro wouldn't know the truth about his powers until encountering with a now resurrected Bremular. Yet before he could get mauled, his father suddenly dropped from the sky from a Monarch Carrier Plane to save him, donning his battle armor as he once again battled his old enemy from years past. Shinjiro was thrown onto the plane as was finally told the truth about his father and their powers.
However, in his old age at 68 years, Shinjiro's father eventually found himself overpowered by the alien Bremular and was gravely injured in the fight. Watching from the plane, he couldn't let his father die as he forced the other personnel to help his father - but not without donning a new advanced suit of armor. He would then join the fight and combat the alien menace with a ferocious vengeance in wanting to tear him apart. While he fought way better than his father, even he found himself close to death as he was hit point-blank by the creature's heat ray. However, Shinjiro was then instructed on how to unleash the Specium Ray, impressing the opponent and forcing him to fly away. The boy would then faint in exhaustion as he and his father were taken to the hospital. Shinjiro would eventually find himself better in as little as three days, thanks to his slightly enhanced healing factor, and while his father would remain in a coma, he too would ultimately survive.
With the secrets of his father already revealed, and his friends avoiding him due to his abnormal strength -(unrelated to the battle - rather due to when he crushed the leg of a bully unintentionally) - he would then take his father's place as the new Ultraman and the SSSP would be refounded. Shinjiro's suit's technology would also be replicated to make other suit versions for the other agents involved - only that they were specialized just for their non-enhanced bodies.
Rumors had also escalated about these technologies finding themselves used in other secret projects by the Japanese military. These include; "Project: Jaguar", "Project: Jaeger", "Project: EVA", and the highly classified "Project: MG".

- Ultraman Factor: Due to his father's merger with Ultraman prior to his conception, Shinjiro inherited his father's acquired Ultra genes which provides him various superhuman feats.
- Superhuman Strength: Due to his Ultra heritage Shinjiro possessed natural superhuman strength. Some examples are of when he once caught the kick of a bully, unintentionally crushing his leg, or when he created dents in the steel floor of a factory barehanded. Also it has been stated that his battle armor only focuses his strength in combat meaning he fights with his own natural powers and that every blow to his opponents is by his own strength.
- Superhuman Leaping: Due to his Ultra heritage Shinjiro can leap great distances thanks to his muscle strength, particularly in his legs. He can also survive falls from heights that would kill a normal person.
- Superhuman Durability Due to his Ultra heritage Shinjiro is more durable than a normal human, as a child he fell from a two story ledge and all he did was cry. Moments later he was fine and went home and slept without a single injury. He also has a slightly enhanced healing factor, having once recovered from a serious burn wound on his entire upper body, while wearing his armor, in as little as three days.
- Ultraman suit: A newer model than the suit worn by his father, this Ultra-like exo-armor allows him to tap into his Ultra Genes providing him with armaments. Also the armor is powered by Shinjiro himself so overuse will leave him tired even to the point of fainting as signified by his mechanical Color Timer.
- Focus: While Shinjiro's strength is his own when he fights, the suit helps him to tap into his Ultraman Factor, meaning he is stronger while wearing the suit than without it.
- Protection: The suit also provides Shinjiro with extra protection besides his own durability.
- Specium Blades: On his arms Shinjiro's armor is armed with Specium weapons, contained blades of energy that he can use in several ways. The Specium Blades, being made of Specium energy, are powered by Shinjiro's own body so overuse can tire him.
- Acceleration: Shinjiro can use the Specium Blades to propel himself at incredible speeds.
- Thrusters: As well as propelling himself forward Shinjiro can use them to fly through the air.
- Defenses: The Specium Blades can be used to block most energy attacks.
- Blades: Like their name suggests, the Specium Blades are blades of energy that can slice through any conventional matter. He can cut through objects as hard as a solid stone projectile several feet thick in one swing.
- Specium Ray Shinjiro can fire the same attack as the Ultra whose DNA he inherited. Shinjiro fires this beam by putting his hand in the classical cross position, however instead of his vertical hand it is fired from his horizontal arm. It is devastatingly powerful and his most draining attack. Also after use the suit seems to need to cool down, releasing large amounts of steam. The Specium ray uses another system on Shinjiro's arms, so while the beam is being prepared the normal Specium weapons are not accessible.
- Limiter: Shinjiro's suit is outfitted with a limiter holding back the amount of energy his suit can absorb from him, when released his Color Timer turns red. Upon doing so Shinjiro receives a power boost, gaining greater strength, speed, and endurance but has a limited amount of time before he is completely drained of energy.
- Mimicry: When forced into combat and in need to protect his identity, Shinjiro can use this device to appear as his armored alter ego. However, this change is in appearance only and Shinjiro has no actual access to his suit.
