The problem is that this whole gray pride movement isn't just going to be satisfied with 'probing technicians.' If they could keep it to their spaceships that'd be enough, but nooooooo, they have to come down here. Right.

Essentially it's just sort of an alien ecosystem. Normally feeders come to the food and eat; some places, it's more efficient for the feeders to wait and the food comes to them. Deep ocean fish do it too; we sorta write it off because hey, they're fish, doesn't count, but it's the same principle in a similarly harsh environment.
