My chief problem with the concept of "white privilege" is that it seems to be the exclusive intellectual property of total and complete clownshoes. There are valid points within the concept. Undeniable, valid, real problems, having to do with past and present injustices that actually exist.

Then instead of trying to solve any of those problems, WP gets whipped out like a trump card whenever a liberal gets dangerously close to actual critical thinking.

I would love to talk about how unequal racial distribution of poverty affects the educational and professional outcomes of various demographics. But I can't do that, because the same people who think that black people can't handle obtaining an ID to vote will start lecturing me about what a racist I am.*

*note: these lecturing people are almost always the whitest person in the room, for whatever that's worth.

I don't understand this. Is she...a conservative saying that, or is she saying Hillary Clinton was entitled to their votes?

the latter.
To clarify, I do think that the police have a problem with racism and I would be concerned that in any crackdown they would be unfairly targeting people of color.

Any crackdown?

What guidelines would you suggest -- or are there truly none -- to a police force in the aftermath of a major disaster, in order to enforce the law?

Sorry. I will stop doing Morons on Twitter cut-away gags. Just.... I mean..... right?
There is a perception out there that police cannot be depended upon to enforce the law consistently when it comes to people of color. I can certainly appreciate why people would have concerns about a 'crack down' on looters, particularly if 'looters' translates to 'black people' in the eyes of police. Calling it White Supremacy... I don't know if that is helpful. Calling all racism White Supremacy risks diluting the term, I'm not sure its technically inaccurate, I just don't know if it is rhetorically wise.

That just seems like a lot of gymnastics to arrive at "Well no, but still kinda yeah." I could be misreading though.

I'm just like... Okay generalization time real quick, it seems like people (not you) are deliberately conflating everything with racism. On purpose, for naked political convenience. And it's hard for me to think of anything good that can come of it. NYT ran an opinion piece yesterday that talks about some of this sorta thing a little bit. I found myself nodding along to the goddamn New York Times, which was surprising.....anywho, linked for your convenience.
I'm sorry Mr MDK but you just don't seem mentally suited to police work. We are really looking for someone who has fewer qualms about murdering unarmed civilians.

.....did you just assume my gender?

It seems to me it rather depends on how it is executed. If police are cracking down on looters then fine but if they are targeting black folk because they are wandering around (or salvaging stuff) and fit the mental profile of 'looter' then it becomes more problematic.

Gah, I hate that word. "Problematic." But you're hitting at a real thing, which is actually bad and I wouldn't like at all. Just.... ya know. This (twitter writer's) post reminds me so much of this other masterpiece from CNN, which to me is more, uh..... problematic than anything else in the national dialogue.
Stealing food in order to survive is something I can understand and even empathize with. Going for fresh kicks and sick plasma in the middle of a disaster zone is not a necessity and even if the items in question are insured it's not something that is essential and you're being a dick. But also don't kill them.

Agreed on necessities. Me personally, you know, killing a dude over a TV is not on my to-do list. But on some level if you get shot while running up in someone's house, it's like, Idunno, my heart doesn't break for your wretched fate at that point.

But I guess that's a tangent to the writer's point, which is that law enforcement itself (during a looting spree or otherwise) is "inseparable" from white supremacy, and if you disagree you're a nazi. Which, needless to argue, is a bit much -- but maybe there's a point in there somewhere. How much do you have to appreciate law and order before you're a nazi? I assume there's a sweet-spot somewhere between libertarian shitlord and Gestapo.
Sorry, two in a row. But this one's, like, special kinds of special. What do you, fair guildees, think -- is it racist to stop looting after a hurricane?
in unrelated news...

Oh please that's not an intern thing Ted was obviously beating his meat.

There is absolutely zero chance that Ted Cruz runs his own twitter account. Presumably you've seen the man at some point on television? He is a lot of things -- I like most of those things -- but clever enough to drop Grayson Allen memes? No. No no no no. He pays interns.

Or rather, he pays interns-minus-one, because someone is fucking fired.
