John jumped down and ran over. "Lay her on her side! I need to get that bite right now!" He landed by the girl and looked at the now pulsing with energy. John cursed and said "Chas, I need everything that we have for a purification now!" He checked Serena's pulse that wasn't stable. He looked at Kay and said "Its dark energy, its burning thru her body. We have to clean her body of the energy now"

Serena was panting, her eyes dull as she muttered "It hurts...a lot..."

John closed the book and set it on the desk, frowning. "Now I understand why she was so worried...those linked to gods can be a messy business..." but she seemed in way more control then others I have seen in the past...there must be a reason for that. But" HE moved a pulled another book down and said "Demon bugs are easy to take care of. She take care of the demon already?"

Serena smiled weakly at Kay and said "Good...that's...really..." She suddenly leaned forward, her face red. She was shaking badly now and her breathing sharp. "Kay...something is...wrong..." She slipped off the couch, hitting the floor and crying out in pain. John looked down and cursed. "Okay, maybe not so easy..."

Serena smiled weakly at the pair and said “thank you...it’s been a while since I’ve been able to trust anyone...I hope I can here...I don’t want to put John in a bad spot...my kind aren’t supposed to be around anymore...those blessed by gods are not...meant to last as long as I have...normally they go mad with power or something else gets them first...” she looked at Kay as Chas left. “I am glad I found you...you shouldn’t be afraid of what you are. Your a being of life and hope....”

John looked up and said “it seems our fire bird is in a lot more danger then we thought. That eternal flame can be used for a lot of different things...good or evil. Even bring back the long dead if you know the right magic...” then he saw chas’s face and added “but I have a feeling you want to talk about something else...”

My thinking is there are two groups. The rebels that Bane is working for, the good guys, then there’s the nobles doing back deals and such illegal actions then casting blame on the rebels. So her kidnapping could be them, then them blaming the rebels. I like the anti magic thing, that’s a cool idea.

And Ya, she can force him. But for shifters to be force would be painful so he wouldn’t be able to answer questions for a few minutes. Leaving Scarlet to save his butt.

Serena looked at them then said "I think it happened a few nights ago...I was in a fight with a demon that used these nasty bug things....I was able to banish him but I must have been bitten during the fight..." She flinched and lowered her head again. "And...he can't know what I am...because he might have to kill me...to keep the balance..."

Serena looked at Kay and said "I'm kinda like you, Kay...I have a hidden power that is hunted...but mine is not as beautiful as yours..." She raised her hand and shadows gathered around her hand, a shape appearing behind her, the shape of a wolf. "I am blessed by the Shadow of the moon...a beast spirit that controls shadows and the night..." She looked at Chas and said "He was the right hand to the Goddess Nyx...and I am his vessel..."

John was pacing upstairs now, reading and muttering to himself.

Serena sat down on the couch, her cheeks flushed. John sat down by her and said "You sure? Chas can help. She might talk if I'm not here..." He got up and said "Chas, why don't you help and I'll do some research on our demon friend..." He got up and headed towards his office area and climbed the stairs to find his desk.

Serena was breathing hard and opened her eyes slightly. "I haven't been feeling well for a few days now...I think getting slammed against a wall...made it worse..." She leaned forward a little, showing the back of her neck. There was a nasty bite mark on her neck and she flinched when she reached to touch it. She muttered weakly again "I can't...let him find out...I can't..." She looked feverish now, her eyes dull.

John sat at his desk, moving books over to him and started to search on the bird of flame myths. Any he could find.

John nodded and said "Seems there's more to the tale then we know yet...but we will figure it out I promise..." He looked at Chas then said "Just a warning...I would avoid old metals, silver and iron. One of those might hurt you badly...But to your question, she might have not really been part of that family, but was hiding as a human and somehow they believe it. There could be a lot of reasons for the method..." Then he saw the shadow and stared. "Chas...have I had that much to drink tonight?"

He got up to follow her and waved for Chas to follow them. When they got to the bathroom John cursed and said "I fear I did more damage then I meant...or she was hurt before this..." Serena was shaking as she opened her eyes weakly and muttered "I'm fine...I can't stay...can't let him find out..." John frowned and said "Lets get her onto the couch...then we can get a better look at her..."

John turned to her and said softly "No more talking like that, missy. No trying to hurt yourself got it? We are all going to figure out what you can do." He turned back to Chas and said "That would be perfect, we need more food around here." He glanced at Serena who was trying to hide in her chair with every moment. He looked at Chas then back at Serena who suddenly got up and muttered something about needing a rest room. She walked off and John looked at Kay.

"So from what Fee said, your father was human and your mother was the magical one. It makes sense, but what doesn't make sense is why no one came for you when you were alone. Some one must have been close to your mother enough to know the truth and to take you in...its very odd"

Serena slipped into the bathroom, shaking badly as she moved to the toilet and vomited into it. She coughed and got back up, splashing water onto her face and looked in the mirror. "Just breath...just relax...he won't figure it out...keep attention on her and you can get out in the morning...he won't find out..." She sighed then started to move to the door but the room spun. She grabbed the wall, sliding down as shadows moved around trying to help. Outside the door a shadow jumped up and formed the shape of a small fox and ran towards the kitchen, pausing by the doorway and tried to be seen.

John frowned and muttered “that seal shouldn’t have sent her flying...unless...well, let’s eat shall we? I guess we need to go shopping for supplies after this if we are going to have guests” he headed to the table, humming softly to himself.

Serena ate slowly, clearly something on her mind. It seemed she wasn’t as homeless strict as Kay, which John noticed. He moved and pushed his bowl to the side a little and asked “alright, ms Serena...what’s your story?” Serena looked up at her name, clearly not really listening. “Pardon? Oh...I guess I was at the right place at the right time...you guys don’t need to worry about me, it’s Ms Kay who was attacked...” John frowned and said “and your the one who saved our necks...and you didn’t have to”

Serena looked at her lap, seeing her hands shaking badly. That’s when John noticed the energy levels she had in the alley were much lower now. She was tired and drained now. Serena looked at Kay and said quickly trying to get her off the spot light “so what have you found you can do? Do you have the powers that the myth talks about?”

John nodded listening carefully then said “it seems our girls both are being hunted...by very nasty things. Kay had a split mental thing going on with her powers that needs to be mended sooner then later...and she’s been on the streets for so long that bag is her life line. Lost a make sure nothing happens to it” then he looked at the girls and said “Serena though...she worries me a bit. What is she running from?”

Serena smiled and got up slowly, her head pounding as she said “it’s alright...it’s better that you feel safe. If I get beat up helping that then it’s okay” she walked to the table, looking a little off balance as she did. John frowned watching and muttered “I didn’t think she hit that hard...”
