John nodded and muttered “I haven’t heard from Chas...it’s not like him not to at least send word of some kind...I’m worried something went very wrong...” he cursed then moved the notebook towards her. “I have her locations up to three months ago. She hasn’t been attacked as far as I can find...but it looks like she’s been careful with where she went” he then heard his phone and checked it. He frowned and said “it’s almost done...and Chas is sorry for calling you red? I won’t ask...”

Serena’s eyes snapped open and she lost it. She slammed him against the wall and yelled “you don’t get to die here monster! You get to live with your pain for a good long time..until another magic user takes pity on you and frees you from your mental prison!” She slammed her hands together and the shadows shifted, tightening around him till brands appeared all over him. She took a step and waved her hands out. The shadows vanished and the doctor hit the floor, still breathing. Serena was panting, blood dripping from her nose.

“Now you truly suffer...I’ve trapped you in your mind for as long as those brands are in tact. And trust me...only the gods can break them. You can’t talk, move, even blink on your own...and every hour on the hour..you will relive the torment of those you harmed...all at the same time. It will feel like your dying, but you won’t...and you will never sleep again. Just nightmares and torment the rest of your days...which won’t happen until I’m done with you...” she turned and stumbled out of the room, slamming the door open.

In the hallway she leaned against the wall, breathing hard and shaking.

John was still on the laptop, but his mind was worried now. He hadn’t heard from Chas and his nerves were getting the better of him. He wrote down the next part of info he found then leaned back in the chair, rubbing his face. “Chill, mate...he would let you know if they were in trouble...Chas can handle himself...and Serena is a power house...”

Serena’s eye narrowed and muttered “you truly want lies to be the last thing that leaves your lips before death takes you?” She moved her hand and the shadows started wrapping around him more, like a cocoon. She then said “since you don’t see what you did...I’m going to show you. All the nightmares of the children you have hurt for your own desires...you get them all at once!” She snapped her fingers again and the shadows finished their cocoon, pushing the doctor into darkness. Then slowly and then picked up speed he was hit with all the nightmares she collected, from his patients in the building and Kay’s.

Serena was starting to breath hard, sweat pouring down her skin.

John sat down at his desk and opened the laptop, starting his search. He would start with the school and see what he could learn from there. But his mind kept wandering back to Kay and a few times he had to shake his head and refocus again. But after a while he leaned back and rubbed his temples, a headache forming. “What is wrong with me...”

Serena walked in behind Chas, closing the door and pulling the cap off. “We have heard the sins of you past, doctor...no, you don’t deserve that title. Doctors heal and you hurt and scar...” she walked to the desk and waved her hand. Her shadow moved and shoved the desk out of the way. Serena’s eyes were still glowing and said “I have judged your sins from the nightmares of those you have harmed...I have found you guilty of their suffering...”

She snapped her fingers and her shadows wrapped around the doctor, pulling him into the air. She glared at him, her clothes seeming to floating around her, her aura building. “Any last words in your defense?”

Shade cursed and sat on the railing, closing her eyes and lowering her head. “I wanted to be free of that nightmare...I wanted to show myself that I wasn’t going to let what happened there be a part of my story...I guess I should have been more careful...”

She looked terrible. She was still hot to the touch and her body was half broken. It was sheer will that was keeping her from being bed ridden. But it was coming fast if she didn’t stop pushing herself so hard. She looked up at him again and said “the rumors I’ve heard are that this place is like a trip back in time...all on a floating island. Never in the same place. And that it’s a whole world unto itself. No outside forces rule here...what ever that means...” shade suddenly coughed, holding her mouth and chest at the same time.

John nodded and turned away from her. “Alright then. Leave it to me. Get your peace and fresh air while I see what I can do…” he headed back inside, intending to jumped back into the research. He needed to make Kay feel safe.

Serena nodded and said “I’m repairing as I go…this guy has caused a lot of pain over the years…there” she got up slowly and opened her eyes. “Just get me in the same room…once my shadows get his this will be over very painfully ans slow for him…”

Shade looked around them and frowned. “Hold on…I’ve heard of this place…some kind of tourist trap if I remember right…but we couldn’t have been anywhere near here unless…” she turned to face him and said “the rumors might be true about this…well, shall we go loo around?” She took a few steps then gasped, grabbing the railing and holding her bad leg.

“Dang it all…it isn’t healing right…that bloody…it got slammed on by one of those bloody marines…I fear it’s badly messed up…”

John shook his head and said “you didn’t know better Kay. How could you? But we can do something about it. Do you know where she is now? I have a lot of friends and I can have someone check on her for you…”

Serena nodded and said softly it’s her eyes still closed “I am almost done. I have enough to drive the doctor into an early grave…where is he?”

John looked over at her and said “the bad part in that plan is...they could still find her. Staying away and out of contact still puts her at risk because she will always have your aura on hers. It’s just how magic works. Giving her no way to contact you...no way to ask for help if the need came puts her still at risk” he turned to look at a plant and said “I’m just being truthful, not trying to scare ya”

Serena nodded as the doors opened and said “I’ll find a desk in the middle of the floor...” she headed to the middle of the building floor, looking around and finding a guard desk. She sat down and closed her eyes, letting her mind go to her shadows and they shot away, searching and hunting for what she needed. The nightmares of the patients.
