Suddenly a shadow blasted him from behind. Serena rounded the corner and said “Shadows of night! Banish my foe!” The shadows wrapped around the mage and another around the aura from Kay. The shadows returned the aura back to Kay’s chest.

John came right behind and slugged the guy hard. “Get your hands off my girl!” He hit him again as shadows held him in place. Serena was on Kay, cutting the rope free with her blade. When she was free Serena caught her and said “John we need to go now…” John wad beating the guy still, slamming him into the ground and hitting him as blood went flying.

Serena said “John! Enough!”

John and Serena landed in the tunnel and John growled. “I’m killing whoever took her…” Serena nodded and her eyes glowed. “Leave it to me…” she waved her hand shadows jumped up and flowed in all directions. Then she ran and followed the ones that signaled the right way. John ran after her, fire already in his hands.

Iris was standing there. Somehow she had gotten Dante shirt off and they saw more then just the scars. Higher up on his chest where Matias hadn’t seen before were fresh wounds like looked like burn marks and water burns.

Iris pointed at him and said “this is what I’m mad about! They are tormenting him. Holy water and worse!” Dante looked down and Bane blinked. “Dante…you don’t have to keep doing this…”

Dante didn’t answer, looking like a kid for a moment.

Bane gave him a look and said “just let her get it Out. She’s been pissed since the boss left this morning. Better now then later.” He looked at midnight again and said “I get why she did this…crazy yes but I get it…” he sighed and rolled his neck.

When the yelling didn’t stop bane looked at the doors. “Okay now we should stop it. This is way too long for the yelling to still be going” he turned to the door, shaking his head and muttered in Norse.

Suddenly Serena jumped up and ran for the door, John feeling the hit and following her. They kicked the door open just as they saw the portal starting to close. John said “oh no you don’t!” He held he hand out to stop the portal just as Serena sent her shadows out to wrap around it. The pair then ran and jumped thru the portal without missing a beat.

Bane looked at him and said “he won’t leave. We have all tried to get him to leave. But…his information got us six raids before they happened…got us information on targets and much more. He knows he could get out but he keeps saying his pain is worth the lives we have saved…”

Bane lowered his head and added “I hate seeing him suffer like this but…he won’t give up…”

Midnight stirred again and Bane sighed. “We…make sacrifices Matias…Lady Midnight…Dante…prices paid to bring peace”

They heard yelling outside the doors and Bane sighed. “She is going to chew him out for not saying anything…”

Bane sighed and said “his been attacked now three times. They are trying to get him to fight back so he can be thrown into the dry cell. If he gets thrown in three times he will be marked as a danger…then worse happens to him.”

He sighed again. “Dante’s brother asked him to join the force to get a foot in the door to get more mystics in the force. And to try and find the purists in the force ranks…Dante is the best for the job. And he is now staying because it helps our cause…but his putting his life on the line. He knows it but still won’t give up…”

Midnight stirred a little and turned her head.

Bane nodded and said “she is but I doubt you will bother her. We can check on her…”

Iris was glaring at Dante then said “you put him up to that? Who hit you Dante? You were attacked again weren’t you?” Dante looked down, shame in his eyes.

Bane sighed and followed Matias into the room to check on Midnight. She was asleep with the smart skin healing the wound better then the night before. Bane sighed and muttered “Dante got slugged by another cop again didn’t he?”

John sighed and said “she was on the streets Sam…for a long time. But we did handle the doctor who did a lot of damage…well Serena did…” Serena blushed a little and said “I don’t handle bullies well…”

Serena frowned and looked at Sam then John asked as soon as Kay left “so what are you wanting to talk about with Kay out of the room?”
