Siren's Call (Anna Vs First Mate)

Attacking a Water Wraith with water, an audacious plan. Though stealth was certainly out of the question, Anna was still surprised as she felt water her spirit had infused manipulated against her will. Her gaze jumped from the man she had seized, and dragged to the ground, to her left side, as the explosive pressure burst forth and debris was launched into the air, some of it even likely to land in her general vicinity. Surprise gave way to instinct, her left arm raising to protect herself like any helpless human, abandoning the tendril around the Pirate to splash against the sand. As she unconsciously defended herself the water leapt to her aid, jumping into the path of flying debris with reckless abandon, her attention was divided between the assault on her person, the surprisingly revelation that the water was not only her ally, and the tendril still wrapped around First Mate’s left leg.

The grip loosened a little as she protected herself, perhaps enough for First Mate to escape without his limb being snapped in two if he took the opportunity. Anna was far more concerned with her own safety to worry about him for the moment. Debris splashed all around her, but she remained unharmed as everything settled as it should, and her gaze shot towards the beach with new interest.

Haha, I should really resent the comparison to a huge lady but I just can't.

That being said, I think we'd have to compare our past fight to the part where the little one was running away.

I'm currently fine tuning my CS at the moment, and was thinking it would be interesting to have at least one prior contact. Would anyone's character have been likely to require the services of a P.I at some point in the fairly recent past? (ten years or so)

Any more than that would be a little unlikely, but one lowly discontented Vampire knowing another from a prior meeting wouldn't be all that unreasonable.

Sunlight, Decapitation, Fire, Stake to the heart I believe are the four really big ones, as per usual when it comes to vampires. Different bloodlines might have extra weaknesses. You can also be torn to bits with enough bullets.

“I’m going to kill you now.” Anna said in a somewhat dreamy manner, as if the man’s responses had driven her far past the level of reasonable anger. It was a little disconcerting, watching her go from perfectly understandable rage to complete contentment in the knowledge that she was about to murder a man. Still, she allowed both her arms to fall into the water around her as the focal point of her hatred approached, her hands splaying as she remained eerily still amongst turbulent water. She took a single step closer to the man, separating them by no more than fifteen feet.

Her eyes were unreadable as she regarded the fearless way he approached her. To her mind the man had to be either the bravest or most idiotic she had ever encountered. No matter though, he would die like any other, of that she was assured. Her hands splashed forth from the waist high water around her, and as if attached by strings the liquid followed her movements and rose up snakelike from the surface. They short forth from her outstretched hands like hounds, hurtling towards the unknowing sailor with lethal intent.

As the twin streams of water approached him they dipped low, though not by much as the man naturally held slightly higher ground. In one smooth movement they sought to pass him on either side of his body and wrap around the backs of his legs, hooking him and dragging his feet out from under him, potentially dropping him on his back at the water’s edge.

Haha, fair play First Mate's response made me laugh. Considering his archetype is pretty common in Arena that's no small feat these days.

Hey @Noxious or @Hellis did you get around to deciding what methods are known to be effective for destroying Vampires in this setting? Haven't found it anywhere and was wondering if I'd missed it. I always found learning about the rules so to speak in different fictions one of the most interesting parts.

Peter Reed

Name/Alias: Peter Reed

Age: (60, 35)

Physical Description/Picture: Peter has a powerful physical presence, despite only standing at 5ft 10” in height he fills a room with broad shoulders and a steely blue eyed gaze set behind rugged features and a strong jawline. He has neat grey hair, and his permanent frown has begun to set wrinkles on his face. He retains a constant 5 o’clock shadow despite shaving often, and has a powerful muscular build maintained through lifting weights. His hair is actually dyed grey.

Strengths

Voice of Authority: Peter can manipulate his voice in a fashion that forces individuals or creatures to take notice of it and ponder his words at the least, lesser willed individuals will feel compelled to carry out any orders he delivers or to otherwise acquiesce to his demands within reason. It has a very short term effect and is limited in what he might ask. For example, he might shout for someone to flee for their lives, or to drop their weapon, and they may do so. If he shouted at them to walk to a nearby store and buy him some gum, the complexity of the task may cause them to seize up rather than carry out his specified action.

Supernatural Observation: Peter can sometimes slip into a state of enhanced observation that grants him the uncanny ability to predict movement or pick out specific details at high speed.

Weakness

Hate what they fear: When using his ability to compel sentient beings they will often become immediately resentful due to the fear his voice invokes, this means when the effect wanes they will dislike Peter, and may attack him if he’s still nearby.

Light Sensitive: Peter’s supernatural sight comes at the cost of a near debilitating light sensitivity, any light as bright as or brighter than the average torch shined directly into his eyes can stun or temporarily blind him.

Motivations: Peter is motivated by ambition, he has no interest in being ruled over by some obscure caste system of ancient Vampires. He is also filled with resentment towards the man he trusted who betrayed him and the police force, which he once held dear. Finally, Peter is not above a base level of greed, if given the opportunity to have more, more power, more money, an easier life, he'd take it.

History: Peter lived his human life fairly normally, born and raised in Charleston his childhood was incredibly standard, though his father did leave his home when he turned ten his older brother filled the void until he became an adult. He did passably well in education and joined the Police Force for no other reason than his love of cop films when he was a kid. He took to the work fairly well and etched out a decent career, making detective at the age of 30. It was his work as a detective that eventually put him on the trail of a killer who was biting their victims and draining them of blood. He worked the case for half a year before his Captain closed it for him. He worked out of hours on the case for another six months before the Captain got wind of it and pulled him into his office after hours to discuss it.

His Captain was a Vampire, and now he’s his Sire.

Peter left the force six years after that, finding it intolerable to work under his Captain in such a direct fashion and finding his new life detestable at best. Resigned to living his life as a Vampire and with little else in the way of expertise he set up his own work as a P.I, working cases for Humans and Vampires alike using his police contacts to his advantage. Though his sire was now Deputy Chief of Police for the whole of Charleston he still forced Peter to do odd jobs where his other minions in the Police Force were unsuitable. Peter has a number of contacts in all walks of life due to his position and a firearm and the knowledge to use it. His resentment was noted, but his Sire is powerful and Peter dares not make any overt moves, seemingly content to maintain the status quo but inwardly seeking change.

On a more personal level Peter is relatively unattached, his mom and brother left the city thirty years prior and his mother passed away two years ago. His brother is still alive, though they call each other incredibly rarely and haven’t seen each other for thirty years. For obvious reasons Peter has never disclosed his current Vampiric status to his brother, and assumes he probably won’t have to unless a nephew or niece comes calling in the foreseeable future.

Connections
Sire: Deputy Chief Simon Fuller, an aged vampire with significant sway in the Vampire community due to his position of Authority. His children permeate the force and make ‘problems’ for the community disappear, providing enforcer and cleaner work where required.

Sire’s Thrall: Norman Kent, a low level blood bank technician. Peter would normally have despised the idea of associating with a thrall, and certainly wouldn’t create one himself, but he disliked the implications of rampant feeding on the Human populace even more so and took steps to avoid unnecessary killing. Part of his ongoing contract with his Sire (who appreciates a bought man as any leader does) is that he is paid with blood that he doesn’t have to kill for. This is also the strongest hold Simon Fuller has over Peter.
