Most battle rifles are just harder for the average person to control because of the larger cartridge. Some are relegated to semi-auto but those are usually purpose built platforms such as a marksman rifle.

Hmm, just looked it up and there are battle rifles with full-auto and a built in grenade launcher, it probably would surpass the assault rifle then, presuming you could compensate for the worse handling.
The only ability I've just noticed that is a bit of an issue is Megumi no Fuujin: Reitekina Yoroi for the same reason as in the tournament, it can be used to fly but also blocks projectiles, leaving John with no method for attacking him. Could I request that either it's removed, or nerfed so that Rin can't fly while using it?

Not necessarily. Again depending on the thickness a battle rifle (Large caliber select fire weapon) can eat away at it something fierce. Ammunition is a large factor into the effectiveness. Velocities, weights, distances. Lots can be factored in.

Battle rifles do tend to lose the auto-fire mode though, right? If something comes in at you in tight quarters and takes a lot to put down, being restricted to semi-auto would probably get you killed wouldn't it?
The hard as diamond part got you but not the black hole mention?

Yes it was stupid overpowered, but that was the point. The whole purpose was to throw something up so silly and overpowered but still within the rules to show the sillyness of it all.

I could have said up to sound barrier, and kept the diamond part, but that was waaaay to tame and not as funny.

Actually the black hole thing just made me laugh. Your character was human, he would die the moment he opened a black hole, where-as his opponent would probably survive considering his tier. Ultimately creating a black-hole was probably the weakest of that character's abilities.

Even with a joke character it's clear to me you don't really consider the implications of much. Pile on the power and maybe you'll win, right?
And before you get more in a tizzy, yes it was for the "lulz". You got trolled and typed up a bunch of counter crap for absolutely nothing.

It was a running gag for a day so I had the day off today finally and decided to run with it.

Although I was sad because I didn't have the time to add in that his favorite food is actually hamburgers!

'I was with you until you spat in the face of a true spaghettimancer by just masquerading as such, when really you were entering a super rail-gun.'

Actually, I was countering your disgusting abuse of the noble skillset of spaghettimancy with your overpowered ShinRa nonsense. Shame upon you.

Don't worry Enki, if you and your pals stick around long enough you'll understand my mind-set eventually. Maybe. Actually probably not, it takes a while.

Well, versatility with firearms is a bit of a subjective thing. An "assault rifle" would be an intermediate cartridge select fire weapon. You got it mostly right but with the idea of superhuman opponents there are a number of variables that may need to be addressed as for the effectiveness of any individual weapon you choose to employ. Say you have an individual that has some sort of "Rock-like" skin. A 5.56x45mm assault rifle would be of limited use seeing as it's a high velocity small caliber projectile. Unless you used a sort of specialized ammunition, say, the US M995 "Black Tip" tungsten core ammunition.

Rock-skin is basically the bane of all firearms, depending on its thickness, so you're basically shit out of luck regardless. However, I do know that a lot of assault rifles incorporate under-barrel grenade launchers, that would be a must for one inclusive weapon.
The profile if you couldn't tell was a joke mostly. The other part of its purpose was to prove a point. Which it did. Thank you for doing exactly what I knew you would melon.

No shit.

YOU LIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
I offer myself as a firearms subject matter expert! Ask me Anything!

Assuming you were in a world where you could be confronted by superhumans (unnatural durability, faster than any human, deadly at close range etc) what weapon would you consider the most versatile and therefore the most useful in a variety of situations? I know with all weapons it's rarely one size fits all so to speak, but as you rarely have the opportunity to know what you're up against is there one weapon that serves better than any other for facing superhumans?

I don't know all that much about guns, not that it matters that much as I figure the thing you really need an intrinsic knowledge of firearms for is

1. Hitting things/Marksmanship (and everyone cheats and fires accurately anyway)

2. Maintenance (which doesn't really matter in Arena, unless someone wanted to bring in an unreliable gun, which literally no one other than me ever does.)

Just to give my view on it, I would probably consider the assault rifle the most versatile anti-superhuman weapon, semi-auto and full-automatic fire modes (whatever the technical term for this is, I do not know) being preferable. With a pistol as a side-arm I suppose, as it's light and useful in a pinch.

He says he has to concentrate, so we must also assume there is a decent acceleration period to it, so like at closer ranges it would be more like dodging an arrow.

He could move the bowl of noodles with it by having a strand wrapped around the bottom until it reaches its destination.

Let's face it, if he was going to have the noodles move that fast he would have said as fast as an arrow. They might as well not be noodles at all. Not to mention I missed a couple of zeros, 10% of light speed is 29 979 245.8 m / s. To put that into perspective, that's fourteen thousand times faster than some of the fastest projectile-firing small-arms in the modern world. Once the spaghetti is hardened to the density of diamond (and presumably bunched up as much as he wills) he's basically firing a projectile that will quite literally obliterate everything it touches. Allowing for the fact that he's basically an ordinary human controlling this god-like projectile so his reaction speed must be off the damn charts otherwise it would have travelled literally miles away and killed -everyone and everything in its path- before he can even tell it to change direction even at 10% of 10% of the speed of light, he could basically rip apart every atom of an enemy near instantaneously.

No man should have that power, especially with spaghetti.

I think the problem is that wherever ShinRa come from they don't really understand the implications of their powers. We ground abilities in actual physics a lot more here as a form of control. The alternative is that they just need to be super overpowered and know exactly what they're doing. If that's the case more power to them, though they'll only be fighting among themselves. None of our characters can hold a candle to that level of power, so we're not going to be engaging them and this RP isn't going to get anywhere.
