Ruby Mamoru

A bit confused at first, Ruby's golden eyes moved over to stare right at Persia who sat down next to the feline. It was just for a few moments, and Ruby's face continued to face forward but her eyes eventually returned to face the same way her head was facing. Someone approaching her like that and sitting down next to her in such a friendly manner was both unusual and new for Ruby which is why she seemed so confused. However, since she didn't want to seem rude and frankly, didn't mind company, she just held still and did not comply to Persia sitting down. "Mamoru....Chan?" Ruby thought to herself since that was the first time anyone has ever called her that that quickly.
"I was just lucky I guess, I wouldn't consider myself talented or anything."

That was a pure lie. Ruby was very proud of her strength and quirk and thought of herself as rather talented and strong, hence why such compliments do flatter her. However, as common manners teached her, bragging about one's abilities is not very nice hence why she refrained from doing so.
Nodding in response to what Persia said, Ruby was impressed by the friendly nature of the stranger. Despite not being in the same class as the catgirl Persia gave advice to Ruby! There was some kind of friendly aura coming off of her which is why Ruby was still okay with talking to her. Eventually though she said something that threw her off. Ruby tilted her head to face Persia fully for the first time since they started sitting next to each other and gave her a look of confusion.
"Thank you for the advice but... rivals?"

Ruby asked to reassure that she heard the right thing. However, before much of a reply was given, Persia already stood up and pulled Ruby with her.
It was no strong pull but only a light tugging, however it was enough to signal Ruby that Persia really wanted her to come. The neko hesitated but then thought to herself "I can still work out later..." before standing up and following Persia where she would go. It was weird to hold someone's hand, the hand of another cute person nontheless. After all, Ruby was very open-minded.
"What do you want to show me?"

Glaring off into the sky, Ruby thought about many things. It was rare that she took the time to really not stress herself with any chores, any training or any studying which she needed to do. What would the future hold for her? She felt the same as before... it was odd. Now that she was a member of the hero course, being the closest anyone in her family ever was to becoming a hero and while that made her feel odd she still felt as stressed as ever. Even though she got over the first few hurdles, there were still many more to come. The principle made it clear: If she did not continue to prove herself whenever she had the chance to do so, Ruby would quickly be sent home again or rather back to general studies. An embarrassing fate which Ruby really wanted to avoid. The nekomimi stayed confident though. After all, it was her who trained for basically all her life to get here; She felt ready.

Just when her thoughts kept drifting off more, as unusual as that was for her, an unknown student approached her and popped into sight for a few moments. Without shifting her position on the bench, Ruby's eyes moved to meet the unknown girl's glare until she leaned back again.
Seeing how polite the girl was, despite fiddling with her fingers behind her own back, which Ruby noticed, the catgirl decided to be polite back and sat up on the bench to face her. After the introduction, Ruby looked at her in a sceptical way and repeated the greeting.

"Ruby Mamoru... Class 1-A"

The reason why she stared into the girl's eyes so neutrally was because she was simply not used to being approached by someone just like that. Usually when Ruby was alone people would just leave her be. Well, times have changed it seems.

"I am one of the call-ups from general studies."

She admitted. She wasn't exactly embarrassed by it because rather than seeing it as failing the first time, Ruby thought that she had proven herself to be worthy for the hero course.

Even though she thought the injury might be rather bad, it ended up healing away over the weekend just fine. She didn't even need to wear a bandage around her face anymore, the wound was stitched and would heal up fully, soon. Now was tuesday though, and she still didn't bother talking to too many people. While Ruby was able to spend some time with her allies and get to know some more classmates, she didn't really "bond" with any of them. The girl was still frustrated about that fact that they have not been given the victory that, at least that is what she felt like, truly deserved. Though in the end the catgirl was more happy than not since she was given entry to the hero course and that made her both incredibly excited and anxious to see how her life would proceed from that point onward. Her parents couldn't have been more happy either, Ruby swore she heard her mother almost cry in the background when she phoned her father to bring the good news. So all in all, everything turned out well.

As soon as the bell rang and the teacher had dismissed the previous class, Ruby packed her things and headed outside. While she was very much attempting to be a perfect student in the classroom, the girl still couldn't be bothered with socializing much and didn't want to stick around to see everyone else talking to one another. She left the room quickly while brushing her hair with her hand elegantly, trying to keep up this both cute and mysterious beautiful aura that she ( at least attempted ) to maintain. Unlike others who intended to walk into the dorm immediately, Ruby decided that it would be best to enjoy the nice weather while it lasted. This school had a lot to offer after all!

After having walked through the hallways for a while, Ruby finally reached her way outside the building to find the school yard, a beautiful place which was not ruined by the surrounding security measurements. Perfect place for Ruby to order her thoughts before she would go train or study or do anything else! There was no rest for those who want to succeed after all. For now though it should be the best to just enjoy the peaceful time off while it lasted. The neko found herself a bench to sit on, still wearing her school clothes, and sat down on it while placing her bag next to it. The wooden bench was heated by the warm sunrays and the surrounding green of the grass and flora was beautiful to look at. Her tail curled together behind her and she finally leaned back and laid down on the whole length of the bench. Laying on her back, the catgirl placed her hands behind her head so that it wouldn't rest on the hard wood and then she angled her left leg, both her legs were also on the bench, so it was more relaxed for her. In this relaxed position, Ruby just stared in the sky, watching the clouds pass by. While she hated nonsensical activities, this seemed worthwhile as she wanted to calm her mind down. ( I hope I described well what position she is in cx )

Sitting in one of those old, dilapidated buildings, on a wooden chair right next to a small window was the pink-haired "demon" that was in question. It was indeed not a pretty place to stay, but Emily figured that she would cause the least tension to her surroundings if she lived in an area barely anyone cared for. If people truly went out of their way to talk about her odd appearance, which could be explained with her simply being a demi, these rumors could always just be brushed off as ramblings by poor or maybe insane people who lived in this run-down part of the city. Even though life was not very pleasant in these streets since she mostly lived alone, Emily did get used to the state and appearance of her surroundings over time. After all she kept telling herself that there was no other way, that she did thise because it was the best for everyone. While she did not entirely understand what exactly was inside of her, Emily knew that it would only cause no evil and had no place in this world. The best course of action would be to just keep it somewhere where it would not cause as much harm so that is what Emily did.

Today like usually, Emily simply sat in this small room in the house like she always did. This day felt different though... while Emily herself couldn't fully explain what exactly felt different, it was as if she had a weird feeling in her stomach that something important would happen this very day. And surely enough, out of nowehere, Emily heard an explosion coming from within the house she was in. The shocked and frightened girl immediately jumped up and left her room, only to see that the hallway was cut off due to the flames that erupted out of the wooden structure. With a panicked look in her eyes Emily put her own arms in front of her face to cover herself in protection and began to run for it, in the direct opposite direction of the fire and towards the exit. Luckily for her it seemed as if the flames were not severe enough to hinder her escape in any way, the chaos that it caused amongst the other locals was rather disturbing however. Soon enough Emily had reached the outside, quickly gasping for air and coughing up all the smoke that she inhaled while she was bent forward with her hands on her knees. After a moment of recollecting her thoughts, Emily realized that she did not even have enough time to plug her tail into her pants like she would usually do and now it was basically swaying freely behind her.
However, despite the roaring flames behind her, the first thing that the girl noticed upon leaving the house was an oddly dressed woman that she had never seen before. With teary eyes from the smoke Emily faced the unknown person and shouted at her. "W..Who are you?!" Needless to say Emily was frightened, scared and very much felt like she was in danger. Much to her own demise the pink-haired one was completely useless when it came to magic. Even though her affinity was water-based, Emily never was able to use magic much herself therefore it was of no use against this fire behind her.

Well, if your character does need a place to belong, Emily (who just got accepted) is still available. @Forett

Magic

Water

Emily has the potential to use water-based magic. She herself however, only knows little about it. Her possessed self on the other hand, when the witch takes control, knows how to use water magic. However, the water magic is "corrupted" due to the witch's influence and it does not have any healing capabilities.
While in that form the water that she uses for her magic becomes corrupted and therefore venomous, toxic and acidic. Just like the magic she uses, her body and all fluids produced by and within it are poisonous (sweat, blood, saliva, etc.)

Personality of Emily

Emily herself is what one would describe as a typical introvert. She would rather spend the weekend at home spending time with herself than going out with friends and meet new people. While she has no problem while interacting with unknown people, no social anxiety, it is simply her preference to not do so. She would describe herself as shy if she were to be asked. However, other than that, she is a very friendly and polite person to those that she cherishes. She could never harm anyone willingly and she rarely loses her temper. However, even if she does get angry at someone, Emily’s wrath is nothing to be particularly worried of. It usually just consists of her ignoring that person for a few days before she feels bad for doing so and ends up apologizing. While she does treat her close friends in the best way possible, it is quite the task to become a part of that group. It is not easy to gain her trust, but all the more rewarding if someone manages to do so. However, ever since the witch had forced its way into Emily's being, her personality slowly started to shift more to match with the witch's. She finds herself every now and then having horrific thoughts, lashing out at people for no reason at all only to feel immediately sorry about it. Worst of all: They seem to become more frequent.

Personality of the Witch

Her other self however, is vastly different. This the other side of her personality which the girl cannot control. It is basically exactly the opposite of what Emily is. While in this form, she is incredibly rude, disrespectful and only cares about herself. One could even describe her as evil. She is sadistic and does not care at all for anyone except for herself, she views normal humans as “trash” and “scum”. For her, killing another human is as if she is squashing a fly, their lives have no meaning to her. Therefore, it would be advised to stay away from her since her behavior, while being in that form, is very erratic and impulsive. She might not care enough about you to hurt you, or she might not care enough to not hurt you. However, there are some people that she still cares about. Even though the ones she considers allies are quite rare, people like like worshippers/cultists and, obviously, witches themselves are considered to be allies for her.

Background

Who would’ve thought that an individual like Emily had one of the most normal childhoods out there. She grew up in a rather small village consisting of roughly 50 inhabitants. None of them were poor but none were rich either. It was this typical small village where everyone knew basically everyone, and they lived closely together. The villagers supplied themselves with their local farms, hunted for meat in the woods and gathered fresh water from the local springs. At least once a month they held a festival for everyone to enjoy and bond even further which consisted of singing, dancing and most importantly, eating. It was these kinds of traditions that kept the positive spirit and up and alive. While Emily herself had no siblings that never was a problem. Whenever she felt like playing with others she could simply walk a few steps outside and play with the other children! All children attended the same school where they learned everything they needed to know to live in that village and even more. While the parents were out working the whole day, the children could therefore prepare themselves to do their parent’s job in the future. Everyone lived in harmony and they had done so for centuries by now without any interruption by outsiders. One day however, everything changed.

When Emily was 13, she first learned of them. It was late in the evening and the poor girl couldn’t sleep, it was too cold in her room to do so. When she went downstairs to grab another sheet she overheard her parents arguing in the living room. Emily wasn’t allowed to still be awake so late which is why she decided to stay outside of the living room and just listen. She was too tired to fully understand what they said, the small girl only understood fragments of what they were talking about. Something about woods... robes… mysterious and a witch. Emily was too small to know what a witch was, she wasn’t taught that knowledge in school. So when she asked her parents about what witches are the next day, they stared at her in shock and simply told her “Someone truly evil that she needs to stay away from”. While certainly not satisfied with that answer, Emily was not given any better one.

Over the next few days she consulted her friends about it and it seemed like she struck gold. They were incredibly intrigued by the idea that there was such a mysterious being in the woods! After just seeing how excited everyone was it quickly became clear: They needed to explore this phenomenon. While the girl did have some doubts about this and wanted to make everyone aware of just how dangerous it seemed, it had no use. They were too determined to go and thus Emily came with them.

On the next Saturday, a day where the adults still needed to work but there was no school. Therefore, the children usually used this day for homework or playing with the others. It was the perfect opportunity for the children to sneak out of the village and go on their own little adventure. They went ahead to explore the woods and sure enough, it only took about an hour before they found what they were looking for: And entrance to a cave in the middle of the forest. However, just before they could decide how they would proceed, hooded figures began to appear around them. The children, struck with fear, attempted to flee realizing just how grave of a mistake it was to come here. Obviously however, it was too late. The robe-wearing cultists made quick work and captured the small group, taking them back into the cave.
Inside the cultist’s hideout they began to sacrifice the prisoners in a ritual to their beloved witch, one after the other, showing no sign of mercy. Those cultists didn’t care about the lives of the poor children, they only cared about pleasing their witch, the witch of kindness. Eventually, and coincidentally, it was Emily’s turn too as she was the last one still left. When they finally performed the ritual on the resilient young girl, something unexpected happened. Instead of accepting her as a worthy sacrifice, the witch saw something inside of Emily that she herself cannot explain to this day. Instead of taking her soul Emily found herself surviving the otherwise fatal ritual almost unharmed, much to the shock of the cultists. Emily was now the vessel and host for a witch, the witch of kindness, the name was ironic enough, had implanted herself into the girl as Emily was, by chance, somewhat compatible. Seeing how she was deemed worthy by the witch the brainless cultists were quick to bow down before Emily, accepting her immediately as if she was a prophet to them. The scared and confused child however, simply fell unconscious after everything that just had happened. When she woke up again several hours later, the whole scenery had changed. All the dozens of cultists that had captured her in the first place were dead and next to her, their bodies were mutilated and ravaged; a horrifying sight. This was the first occasion of Emily’s new "roommate in her mind" taking over, she only remembered very little of it. The only thing that currently reminded her of her condition which Emily was quick to call a curse, was the demon-like tail which had grown from her tailbone just below her waist. Filled with shock and disbelief Emily realized: She was no longer human. There was no way that she could return to her village, what if her “other side” would take over at home and do the same thing she did with the cultists? No, this witch that lived inside of her needed to stay away from them, stay away from other humans.
For the next two years the disturbed girl lived as a stray in the wild, a child with no place to be, an animal too dangerous to be kept around humans. However, while survival was the toughest challenge the young girl had ever faced, it had its positive aspects too. As she grew older Emily became more aware of the full extent of her curse, she began to understand how it worked and, sadly, as time passed on, Emily learned that the outbursts of the witch of kindness within her only increased in frequency and it was surely something she would have to deal with at some point. Sometimes cultists managed to find her, but since they felt the presence of a witch inside of Emily, they left her alone as per her own request, granting Emily the safety which she needed.

Once she became 16 years of age, Emily decided she had trained herself enough to oppress the evil persona inside of her, which she had named “Demon-Em”, to finally live amongst humans again. No, of course she didn’t dare to go to her old village. Instead the girl looked for work in the capital and, luckily, she quickly found a job in the slums which, while not paying a lot, provided her shelter and a place to be and finally the one thing that she had missed over the past years; human interaction. She had to be extremely careful since she was basically reeking of the witch for anyone who was able to sense the witch’s presence and the tail was just an additional sign. Emily didn’t know how people would react if they found out about her tail, if they could draw the conclusion of its relation to a witch, but it surely was a risk that she was not willing to take. Hence Emily avoided this kind of confrontation with the help of pure luck and hiding the tail inside of her pants uncomfortably. Like this, Emily was able to live the past year up until the present day inside of the slums without any further trouble, much to her own delight.
Updated version I worked out with the super-kind Lunar to match the lore. Hopefully there are no conflicts with the lore now, it should be fine if I did not forget anything D:
