Location: Kayla & Mia’s apartment, French Quarter, Lost Haven
Time: Christmas Day, months in the future

The snow had settled on the grounds of Maine for the few weeks since it had started the usual, yearly cycle. There was snow still coming from the Canadian/New Hampshire border, the frozen crystals of ice tumbled down from the grey sky above. Lost Haven didn’t escape the wake of the weather, though the people were used to the weather and had been going about their day as normal. On this day, the streets were deathly silent. However, unlike the events that occurred in the months beforehand, this was a day of celebration.

In the French Quarter, Kayla was busy with all the cooking for the people that were coming for the holidays. Her mother, Koko Mason, was in the room, enjoying the movies that are played at this time of year, a glass of white wine in her hand. Mia’s family were here as well, having small talk with Koko to pass the time. While she wasn’t here, Mia was on her way home. As if by a miracle, Mark had recovered from the bus explosion that happened in the summer of that year. Much that was feared came true as he woke from his coma; while his memories were still intact, the damage done meant that he lost the ability to walk ever again. Still, it brought a small smile to the off-duty vigilante that her childhood friend did not lose a loved one. The thoughts returned to the one person that she lost, the smile fading away into memory as sadness creeped in.

The latch of the apartment door clicked as it swung open. The room erupted in greetings and happiness as the couple walked through, Mia pushing Mark’s wheelchair. The smile came back to Kayla’s face, pushing aside the sadness that crept in. After a year that occurred, between the constant worry of losing Mark and travelling a lot for her job, the usually bright-eyed Mia was back. That was something that would never leave Kayla’s mind. It was then that the celebrations for Christmas would start. Kayla brought out the meal as everything sat down, pulling the crackers and poured the drinks out. Christmas music played on as happy conversations filled the room.

--------

Hours later, everyone was gathered around the television, their bellies filled to the brim and alcohol seeping into everyone’s system. Kayla was sitting between her mother and Mark, his wheelchair bridging the gap between her and Mia. Mia excused herself as she went off to the bathroom. Now is my opportunity, Kayla thought, thinking back to the one key memory of that terrible night. She turned to Mark, careful not to draw too much attention to both of them, ”I know that this is a bad time to bring this up, but I know what you were going back to the bus for.”
Mark turned around, a surprised look etched on his face, “It was that obvious?” he whispered back. The surprised look was then replaced with a bit of sadness. “If only I didn’t lose the ring, then none of this would have happened. Now I have lost that one thing to show Mia my feelings.”
”No one was to know that something like that was to happen. Besides…” Kayla reached into her pocket and discreetly placed the charred box on his lap ”It’s never too late to show her, especially with this.”

Marks eyes looked at the box, widening upon realizing what it was. Before he could respond to her, Mia entered the room. He placed the box down the side of his wheelchair before she could see what it was. Everyone carried on watching the television as Kayla got up to get everyone a mug of hot cocoa when Mark spoke up. “I would like to say something.” All eyes turned to him, Kayla watching the scene unfold from behind the kitchen island. “This year had been rough. It has thrown everyone challenges and almost altered a few. Mine was almost gone and made me realize how precious our lives could be. I could not be more appreciative of those who had waited by my side, hoping that I would get back.” Reaching down to the wheels, he spun the wheelchair as to look at Mia. “Mia, you had been my light since we got together and it was that light that I kept fighting to get back to you. Which is why I must confess something. On that night, I was not heading back to the bus to get my phone, never had. While my plans had been ruined by those events…” He reached for the charred box and held it in his hand. “A good friend said that nothing is too late to do what I want to do. Those events had me thinking about how much more that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So…” As his second hand reached for the lid of the box, Mia’s eyes showed the shock and realization of what was happening, her hands shooting up to cover her mouth. “Mia Rosalind Rice, will you make my life complete and marry this broken man?”

Everyone was stunned into silence, though Kayla watched on with a smile on her face. Tears started rolling down Mia’s cheek at the sight of the silver ring, encrusted with diamonds and amethysts along the band. He hands slowly fell off her face, revealing the smile that they had been hiding. “Oh, you big dummy. How could I say no to my broken man?”

Everyone on the sofas clapped as the newly-engaged couple embraced, the ring placed on her finger moments prior. As the conversation moved on to congratulating them, Kayla smiled, looking at them before her eyes moved to the view outside. The moon emerged from the clouds, it’s cool light illuminating the snowy landscape outside. Her thoughts turned back to that one memory that was just right for this occasion. Jason, although time has passed and things have happened since you’ve been gone, you still gave me one of my happiest memories of my life. I hope you were as happy as I was. And I hope you understand this; No matter what happens in the future… Grabbing the tray of hot cocoa-filled mugs, she joined the celebrations and carried on with them well into the night, the last thought ringing in her mind.

I will be alright.
@yoshua171 I'll wait to bring Morgan in until you or @Mercinus3 spot the napping vampire :P That way I don't just happen to burst through the front door and all that.

I'd be fine with Ixion spotting the napping bloodsucker as he needs to get replacement armour.
@Mercinus3, are you still pissed at me? I'm unable to tell. Mostly because you've not responded to me for a while.

What makes you suggest that I was pissed off with you? You just caught me at a bad time when we last spoke. That plus my desktop has been useless at starting up Skype if you've been trying to contact me. Besides, you did make a lot of good points then so there's no reason for me to get angry over it.
I am still here and although the patience has faltered to near zero a couple of times, I am still willing to carry on as normal with Ixion. With what'll happen with the Zerul group, we'll have to talk about it/see what happens, but I'm up for anything.

Flicker should not be used with img tags, else the above image is blank.

If you're needing a website to post the direct image BBCode, I suggest using VGY.me. It is a good alternative to Photobucket, which I think a lot of people used before.

Well then, let's hear what people would prefer, @Rhaevnn Xeno, @Mercinus3 and @yoshua171 specifically, since you are the ones that would be immediately affected by the decision: do you want to continue your characters' story imminently, freeing them from their reliance on encountering Aemoten's group but potentially (not assuredly) missing this particular opportunity to join them, or would you rather continue waiting?

I am in the same position as yoshua about this: I am fine with either option though the sooner something happens, the better. There was also the thing that the trio aren't able to leave the city immediately due to the Zerul guards needing to question them about what happened with The Fixer.
Oooh, I spy a @Hellis. Just a heads up I've shot a PM in your direction that could do with your input :)
I can only imagine how thin your patience must have worn by now, Merc, and I'm aware that you and the others have been waiting for far too long, many times as long as I had hoped it would take and even longer than I ever had the imagination to fear it would be; as I just said in my previous post that is one of the reasons that I really can't keep just silently accepting the absence of posts. I haven't heard anything about anyone reacting to anything I've done in such a way, which honestly doesn't do them any favors in my eyes and display a complete lack of willingness to communicate and work towards the good of the RP and its players. That kind of behavior makes me think that such a person was incompatible with the way I run things. Those kinds of issues don't go away on their own, usually... it takes talking to solve them.
(That last part obviously wasn't meant for you, Merc, but for the as of yet anonymous player you mentioned.)

And the thing is, while I would prefer to be the agreeable and understanding GM that endeavors to accommodate everyone, there has to be a point where I say "enough". I am prepared to write out characters if that is what it takes, even if doing so ends up seriously affecting a lot of other characters and players, but I would prefer not to do that and find a different solution instead and wanted to give the people we're waiting for a chance to help finding a solution.

I don't know why people would prefer to try to sabotage the RP rather than talk through what is wrong, but I imagine part of it might come from the fact that people more and more go to Shien with their thoughts and concerns instead of me, making her the one people work with constructively and me the "bad guy" that keep complaining about everything. Now, I'm fine with people going to Shien for most part - she knows a lot about the TP-universe and I have nothing but trust and respect for her - but completely shutting me out just isn't going to work.

So yeah... Here I am, trying one more time to find a way to move forward cooperatively and figure out what the problems causing people to post so very slowly are. And yes, if we can't find the tools to constructively improve the situation, I'm prepared to break out a bulldozer and force things along if needed.

My patience might be worn by the long delay, but a) there's not much I can do about it, b) I was saying that for the others that have been waiting as well and c) I still have some amount of patience left (with another RP that is helping alleviate things). It is through this RP that I've heard about the comments from said player (if they don't come forward to you in either PM or in the OoC, then I might have to drag names into this). I've tried to nag them there but they have since disappeared from the RP's Discord chat. Otherwise, I am definitely in agreement with what you are saying, even suggesting them talking to you.

I can understand the reluctance to do something as writing a character out, especially as it would affect many people who are involved with that character. However, it is sometimes necessary to think about trying to please the majority of the people you are with than the few, especially if something doesn't work out. But I do agree that people should at least try to solve a problem and not shut someone who could solve the problem out.

-------

It's certainly not a problem, Yoshua. Much like what Rhae has said, I'm eagerly waiting to see what happens with the Zerul Trio. I do enjoy the dynamics of the group and would like to see how it plays out, especially when it comes to The Fixer.
Writing this message from my phone as my Internet is a bit dicey at the moment.

As one of the people who had been waiting for some progress in the RP for over nine months, I think it had now come to the point where if there is waiting for a particular person to respond that it is time to move on and just write out the characters that are holding up the RP. Although not naming names or throwing people under the bus, but I have been told by one of the RPers here that there was something written in one of your posts that ruined them the wrong way and was holding back from writing a response as a result. Even as I mentioned to them that there were people who have been waiting months to be back in the RP. As they are refusing to pay ball and think about other players, then writing them out is now the only option until they can resolve any issues that they are facing.

As one said, I'm not aiming to throw people under the bus, but when myself, @yoshua171 and @Rhaevnn Xeno have been waiting for almost a year to post in this RP, some people's patience are close to running out.
