We Come in Peace (MxF)

June 20, 2025 Friday 0700 EST

“We Come in Peace.” That was the message the aliens sent - in every language humans used to broadcast the news. The broadcast overrode every news station on Earth. It did NOT mess with the emergency broadcast system. The latter was later used by the President to address the United States to verify the presence of an alien fleet approaching our world. 24 hours later the aliens launched smaller vessels which approached the capital cities of:

G7 - (USA, Canada, UK, Japan, France, Germany, Italy)
BRIC - (Brazil, Russia, India, China)
Arab League - (Old Arab League, plus Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan)
AF - African Federation (the rest of Africa)
Oceania - Australia, New Zealand (South seas islands)

In short, pretty much every capital of the world soon had an alien ship hovering over it. Some of the aliens ships were fired upon, but with no visible effect and no retaliation save for beams of energy that knocked the power out of the attackers, then set them down on the nearest land unharmed. There was little doubt who would win in a military conflict. The aliens were easily a century ahead of humanity.

The ships hovered there for a 72 hours, continuing to broadcast their message of peace. They continued to ignore attacks, responding purely defensively. Then the message changed. It indicated a global map of Earth in 3d with the various leagues. It organized Australia, New Zealand, and the many south seas islands under a single group cluster. Antarctica was given a different designation and did not include any other nation. The aliens schedules simultaneous meetings at the seat of power for each group of nations - as best the aliens understood it. (In some cases very wrong. The aliens are a little confused by our multinational structure. So Washington DC is considered a seat of power as ‘leader of the free world). They will think Egypt is Arab. They won’t understand Israel at all. And why isn’t Japan part of Russia? Yes, the aliens are going to step on some toes.)

Five simultaneous meetings with the leaders of the world. What do the aliens want? Do they truly come in peace? What do they look like? These are the only news running now.

Hint: It it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Our Characters
Our characters should be the stuff of TV drama shows. Think back to all those alien invasions shows. Build your character as someone who might have a prayer of getting into the alien business.

Press - you would need some serious credentials.
Military - General is probably too visible. Maybe secret service?
Scientist - you would need to be one of the top in your field.

Now if we go later into the story after the aliens make initial introductions, then we can move to smaller roles.

Expanse (MxF)

In the 24th century, humans have colonized the solar system.
The U.N. controls Earth.
Mars is an independent military power.
The inner planets depend on the resources of the asteroid belt.
Belters live and work in space. In the Belt, air and water are more precious than gold.

For decades, tensions have been rising - Earth, Mars and the Belt are now on the brink of war. All it will take is a single spark …

This is an RP partly based on the TV series, Expanse. No I haven’t seen anything but the first season. I just like the basic concepts of an interplanetary setting. I am going to use a Timeline I found online - but after the year 2339 everything changes. (IE no protomolecule stuff, alien tech, no Eros Incident, etc.) But the RP is set to start in the year 2350.

Technology
The main drive in use is called the Epstein Drive developed in 2202. It is a very efficient fusion engine. Dr Epstein was lost during the first test of the prototype, but left the plans to his wife - which she sold to Mars.

Weapons are pretty much what we have today, with advances in projectiles and biometric security. Man portable rail guns are available for use with powered armor, but very uncommon as they are not exactly spaceship friendly.

Cryogenic suspension has been developed, but is generally reserved for medical emergencies or prisons.

As unrealistic as it is, Expanse avoided transhumanization and cyberpunk. I am going to work with this though. No cyborgs.

Politics
There are three main political entities. UN (Earth), Mars, and OPA (Outer Planets Alliance). OPA is viewed by the other two as terrorists. The Belters regard them as a sociopolitical movement.

As a creole language, lang Belta is primarily derived from English, with influences and contributions from languages such as German, Chinese, Romance languages, Hindi, Slavic, and Bantu.

RP Setting and Plot
JJ Braxton is an independent asteroid miner who come in from time to time to Pallas Station, on the second largest asteroid and one of the oldest refining stations in the Belt. His ship is of a very old design. He is constantly asking about parts, but can somehow keep the things space worthy.

Pallas recently had a revolt over water shortages. Braxton showed up selling ice at a low ball price (slightly above taxes by Earth) - on credit with a very low interest rate. This has placed him under a watch by all three political entities. OPA wants to wrest control of Pallas from Earth. Earth (and Mars) want to know where he got the water. He is also know to do business at Eros, which is the belter equivalent of Las Vegas.

Characters
I plan to run JJ Braxton. He appears to be in his mid to late 20’s, stands 6’7” tall

Braxton is a very private man. His usual purchases are information: news, technical journals, latest discoveries, and announcements. He always tips well. And the fact that he sells so cheaply leaves him generally unbothers by local crime as it might mean a death sentence for them for disrupting a good source.

His origins are completely unknown. In fact, there is a very good chance his name is an alias. He seems to try to avoid the law. And he can smell them a mile away. (His claim - and the sort of claim one who had lived on a planet might use.)

He is strong even for his size (also an indication of a planetary birth). Some think he might be a UN agent working undercover. (He isn’t.) But if he is, then he can withstand far greater accelerations in space battles than a colonist or belter.

Your Character
This is pretty wide open. I am hoping for a potential romantic interest for Braxton. (He will NOT be looking. So it would take an effort. He isn’t looking for crew members, so you’d have to roleplay it and be convincing. Just “I need the job” won’t cut it. He’s heard it too many times.

You could be the Law. Remember there are three factions.

You could be an industrial spy trying to find out where he gets his water or minerals from.

Or you could get creative.

Overlord of Rock City (MxF) Sold into Slavery

Long ago (2037) a reign of nuclear bombs obliterated civilization in a few minutes of blazing horror. It was the end of the world - Doomsday - Skydark. With the first nuclear explosion, the tissue thin tapestry of civilization was ripped apart. The rule of law was replaced overnight with the somber draconian edict of survival of the fittest. Cannibals hunted prey. Cold hearts brutally raided farms. And slavers seized anybody they could as chattel. Electricity was seldom seen. Starvation universal. Rape a daily event. Death the only known means of escape. -paraphrased from James Axler’s Deathlands series intro.

Those were the early days after Skydark. A long time has passed since those dark days and slowly mankind has begun to rise from this dark age. But we have yet a very long way to go. Noone is really sure just how many years have passed since that dark time. But with the fall of civilization humans reverted to older ways of life. Women, who had once won their freedom are once more second class citizens at best. Women no longer have rights.

A woman may not be a warrior. In many lands doing so brings a severe punishment. Females belong to the male head of household until she is married off, traded, or even sold into slavery. A woman who loses her husband is in an extremely vulnerable position.

For men who are poor, life isn’t much better. First they “sell” themselves to an dealer in labor. This is a little backwards as it really means bribing him to put you on the auction block. He has to feed you until he can sell you.

At the auction block military and mercenary captains, chain gang overlords will “buy” the contracts of these raw recruits. Those who do NOT get bought end up on chain gangs - working in mines, or even in the cities harvesting steel. That means a harsh life, and probably an even shorter one at that. Still as times are harsh - and one must eat to survive.

My Character
Mercenary in service to the Overlord of Rock City. He is easy on the eyes, young, and practically a giant among men, standing about 6’7”

Your Character
You're a Freezie. Cryogenic suspension had only recently become approved for human use back in 2037. For the most part it was available only to the rich or higher ranking government personnel. Your character should have been important enough to preserve for the future and have a private nuclear shelter and cryogenic suspension chamber provided.

For the sake of the RP she should also be extremely beautiful, and expected to fetch a very high price on the auction block once cleaned up.

The Native (actually Chinese)

This is the story of a young man who shipwrecks on an island while taking a long solo trip around the world in a first class superyacht. Soon he will discover that he is not alone on the island. It is home to three beautiful girls who shipwrecked before him. The island is not exactly safe as it is home to prehistoric creatures.

Your character
Should be a male. He should be wealthy enough to have a superyacht (or possibly have a family wealthy enough to let him take a yacht out for a vacation). He should be adventurous enough to have been willing to travel the world. He’d have to know how to handle a yacht. He should be athletic. (Although looks could be deceiving. He might be dying and want a last adventure before he dies. But he would be asymptomatic.)

You will need a good CS. No special format (but please hide any animated gifs). Impress me a little.

About the Island
The Barracuda departed Hawaii and ran into the storm about 500 nm southwest - halfway to the Midway Atoll. Unbeknownst to you you have slipped into an alternate Earth. The island is a one of a group of five islands. The region of this group of islands makes intermittent contact with our Earth. Because of this, from time to time radio signals may get through. This doesn’t mean you will be able to get a signal out. But hey, you can try.

The wildlife will be something that might have developed back during the Pleistocene Era in a tropical climate. It will resemble the megafauna of Australia and Insular locales both prehistoric and extinct. Examples will include the Haast Eagle, Moa, Australian brush turkey, cassowary, Meiolania, marsupial lions, etc. Some of the creatures will be an original design by me, but with some thoughts to evolutionary development - not so much for horror movies.

The islands are volcanic. The island the group landed on is about the size of Hawaii which is about 80 miles across at the widest point. (My picture doesn’t do the island justice.)

Yacht - SS Barracuda
The yacht shown is just a suggestion. If you chose another, find one with a good deck plan. Main reason I selected the Ferretti 960 was because I could read the layout better than most. It has a hybrid engine. Not as fast as some other yachts, but it has the range for long voyages (3000+ nm). It was fully stocked two days before when they left Hawaii. The nearest island to where you shipwreck is 500+ miles. And it is across open ocean. So this is a necessity.

RP Start
The RP opens in the Summer of 2025 at the earliest. Even a little later would work, but let’s not go to awful far. I’ll modify my characters based on the date. I will handle the opening post. As a heads up, your yacht will arrived pretty much vertical, but beached on rocks with bad gashes in the bottom. Whether it will get washed back out to sea in a later storm is undecided. But there should at least be time to scavenge as much as possible or even figure out a way to keep it from being lost.

The Cast

I am using an all star cast or close to it. Each of you will select a character and give him/her a name. In the case of the Billionaire, you can name the wife as well if you run both. You to NOT need to use the original series names. In fact, I prefer you don’t. I have left them mostly barebones for a reason. Each of you should flesh the character out a bit. For example, I may have the Professor dying of cancer, but not tell anyone. The Billionaire might be facing bankruptcy and not told anyone.

Captain (Age 45)

Retired US Navy pilot. Nicknamed Skipper by the First Mate.
He was shot down over enemy territory in the middle east and rescued by the First Mate. Owes the man his life. Retired in 2015 and couldn’t stand the constant babble of the civilian world. So he bought a megayacht and had it upgraded with a hybrid engine for the range. (He grew up on the seas and has spend more of his life on the water than land.)

Did two tours in in the USMC Force Recon and saw a lot of combat. Was having troubles adapting to civilian life after getting out on an honorable medical discharge - for which he received a Purple Heart. Also has a Silver Star. He ran into the Captain at the VA hospital in Hawaii. The man hired him on the spot. That was 3 years ago. He was seasick for the first two years but never complained.

Well, what says billionaire better than these two? Unfortunately life for this pair hasn’t been so great. The original Howells were billionaires who lost most of their fortune in the Great Depression. This pair will have suffered considerable losses as well, but still be easily multibillionaires. They had a separation for the past couple years and were trying to make another go at it on this vacation. They concealed their troubles (and infidelities) from the world largely for the sake of their business.

*This part can be roleplayed by one or two members. Two would be better.

Movie Star (Age 28)

The very name Ginger screamed redhead … so I went with a redhead. She is a goddess of the big screen. She has starred in both movies and television shows, doing every imaginable scene that shows off her assets. She has posed for centerfolds, but never did any sort of adult movies. (She is not shy.) She found the Farmer’s Daughter at a car show and was amazed at how much the girl new. Then she bought a supercar right out of the show and asked the girl to show her how to drive one. The one quality she liked about the other girl was her honesty. While most people kiss up to her, her friend gives it to her straight.

As you may have guessed, these two will go for each other if there are no worthwhile guys around. She paid for the cruise for her friend and wouldn’t take no for an answer - not that she had to.

Farmer’s Daughter (Age 25)

The original character of Mary Ann was a farm girl from Kansas. You do not have to be from Kansas. Nothing says country like the original Daisy Duke, hence the image chosen. Yes, this is a farm girl born and bred. But her primary quality is HONESTY. This girl absolutely cannot act. She tried. But stunts were another matter. She only did a few, mainly involving horses and cars. The ones involving cars have been simple ones, but that is because she was new and lacked the street cred to do more sophisticated stunts. She has also died her hair for one movie to be a stand in double for the Movie Star. She really knows cars - every bit as well as she knows farm animals.

Professor (Age 25)

I intend to run this one. I am going to do a major nerfing of one of my characters to make him fit better. The original series character was just a high school teacher. He stands 6’7” tall. But he had a limp in his left hip and a nasty scar on his left hand where it looks like it was cut in half between the 3rd and 4th fingers. He brought his laptop and two guitars with him.

Built for luxury cruises. Main reason I selected it was because I could read the layout better than most. It is a modified Ferretti 960. It has a hybrid engine. Not as fast as some other yacht, but it has the range for long voyages (3000+ nm). It was fully stocked two days before when they left Hawaii. Being ex-military the Captain added a Silent Guardian system (Active Denial) and has a weapons locker - for repelling pirates. This would include 2 Barrett Lt 50’s, and some smaller Class III weapons. The crew wouldn’t know about them, but probably find them not unexpected.

Drinkable water won’t be a problem as the yacht had solar distillers. There are enough MRE’s to last for 3 months, but it is ill advised to subsist on MRE’s for such an extended period.

It is the year 2350. The world is very similar to that of the TV series Expanse. See the link above for variations. Basically I got rid of the aliens. The setting will be out among the asteroids. In the asteroids it can get rather lonely.

By 2029 AI were routinely passing the Turing test. By 2053 we developed designer babies for the rich. It was only a matter of time before these two concepts merged. However, as a commercial enterprise they failed and faded from use largely for reason of cost and moral issues. It wasn’t until space became privatized enough for small, independent companies that the idea of Synthetics returned. But it was still too costly for recreational use when there were adult clubs here and there for miners to blow off steam and waste their money.

J.James Braxton is a loner. His all female crew is, in truth, nothing but Synthetics. But he knows that. The only reason he has them is security. He simply doesn’t trust humans. That is, he doesn’t trust MOST humans.

But by this time it had become possible to grow a designer human and download skill sets, as well as program them for loyalty. Still he didn’t trust anyone to handle the design, so he obtained his own cloning chamber and began to create his own perfect human companion that would do anything she was told.

At least that was the plan…

Yep, you were designed to be the perfect mistress, imprinted on Braxton. Now this isn’t exactly legal back on Earth. Laws in the outer planets are a bit more Wild West like. But Braxton also designed you to be highly intelligent, curious, and creative. Your senses are peak human, maybe even a bit superior. In short, he made you his idea of perfect (physically and mentally). Skills were a bit harder. You have had basic skills implanted in your mind - the sort a housewife would need - cooking, cleaning, etc. He also gave you the equivalent of PhD’s in Physics, Astronomy, and Geology. He wanted to be able to have intelligent conversations. He added in Belter Creole.
