Storyteller’s Epilogue
This is an original content RP based on the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. The book was written in 1957, based in industries that are simply not up with the times. It was also very insular and takes very little into account regarding international politics and economics. Even the movie trilogy wasn’t especially convincing. (In defense of the movies, they tried to follow the book while paying tribute to more modern events and technologies.)

That said, this will be all original content. I will attempt to take a more realistic approach to the apocalyptic story. I intent to play a version of John Galt that is, at best, a bastardization of the concept.

This version of the story will be set in the near future - the mid 2030’s. (I am thinking 2037.) The next 18 years will have seen the rise of socialized policies in the US. Those, in turn, have resulted in an inflated economy, soaring unemployment, record-breaking welfare spending and a national deficit that is is spiraling out of control. Social justice and minority groups will have an even greater influence on the world.

Instead of railroads being the focus, aerospace and early space travel will be the push. Communications and social media will have a profound impact on the world. Energy production and distribution will be another area of concern. Nanotechnology will be shaping the future.

The overall story will not change though. Laws will be enacted that will begin to socialize the industry, attempting to force the leaders of technology to conform and work for “the social good.”

Characters
I am looking for someone who can run multiple characters - a main, plus a few extras. My main will be a male. I also have a couple other males, plus at least one female character.

My “John Galt” is not quite the idealist that the book version is. He is torn between public service and objectivism. He has the technology to simply ignore the world and turn his back on it. But if his knowledge fell into the wrong hands, it would be a disaster. In some ways he is more like Rearden, refusing to give up on the world.

That said, he may need a catalyst to make him take a stand.

Your character will need to be a Dagny Taggart sort - strong willed. It doesn’t have to be a female. As I said, I also have a female character or two. But you should look at developing a character who runs an industry that is a pillar of the world. In the book trains moved freight and people. In this RP, you might run a vast transportation corporation - sea, land, air, and space.

Prologue
I am not dead set on the date. I could go a bit earlier. But I am looking at a minimum of 10 years into the future (the completion of the current presidential term, plus two more.)

Isle of Beautiful Women (FxM)

Cliche? I know. But that is the theme of this RP. The short version is a young man (or a small group) shipwreck on a South Seas tropical island. You won’t find this island on any charts though. Soon he (they) will discover that the island is inhabited by beautiful women with the health of amazons.

They live by a technology that is just a little beyond Stone Age. They have bows and spears. There clothing - if they wear any - is similar to a net bag, used to hook tools, small bags of gathered food, etc. They have begun to learn primitive agriculture.

They have no idea what a man is. To them you will be deformed, quite probably in poor health. They will try to come up with theories as to why you are what you are. And they may seek to heal you. If not in perfect health they may take you hunting and try to feed you. (Careful, they may try to use primitive logic to come up with medical solutions - like cutting things off! Hey, they mean well.)

The wildlife will be something that might have developed back during the Pleistocene Era in a tropical climate. It will resemble the megafauna of Australia and Insular locales both prehistoric and extinct. Examples will include the Haast Eagle, Moa, Australian brush turkey, cassowary, Meiolania, marsupial lions, etc. Some of the creatures will be an original design by me, but with some thoughts to evolutionary development - not so much for horror movies.

The islands are volcanic. The island you landed on is about the size of Hawaii which is about 80 miles across at the widest point. (My picture doesn’t do the island justice.)

I am not picky about the format. The blank CS just asks for the basic information I need. If you want to create some NPC's, use Hider tags with brief descriptions below them. Note: No animated gifs please. My eyes have begun to deteriorate. I get migraines trying to read around the images.

Set in the near future (2029), B.I.O. - By Invitation Only (or Beta Iota Omicron) - is about a group of socially awkward teens (freshmen) who find themselves invited to join an exclusive club at their boarding school. B.I.O. is a closed club sponsored by one of the art teachers, Elizabeth Greyson.

The school has a very large campus, and a sports oriented social culture. It is located on Catalina Island offshore from Los Angeles. This is a boarding school. No uniforms. Some students live off island. But the island is a community unto itself.

Big classes. Wide variety. Lots of clubs. Lots of sports. Plenty of bullying.

Bullying. This group will be largely composed of kids who are either bullied, or too invisible to get bullied. At this school bullies are a plague. They come in every form. Most come from wealthier families and think they are better than others.

Characters
In every school there is that group of students that are socially awkward. It is just a fact of life. Maybe they weren’t born with great looks. Or their parents are poor, so they don’t have the designer clothes or latest electronic gadgets. Maybe they are the late bloomer. You know, still 5’3” while everyone else on their grade is 6’. Maybe they are the runts because they skipped a grade or two. These are only some of the reasons you might be socially awkward.

I’ll need a good, well-written and detailed CS. (Please no animated gif’s.) It should include information about family. (ie could your family afford a boarding school? Or did they need financial assistance. Why send you to a boarding school?)

I will also need some NPC's created. (I have several teachers. But I could use some bullies. Eventually I'll need some villains, but you need to get a full picture as to the RP's background and where all the powers come from. There are three sources.)

The Plot
Now one of the tags I placed on this RP was Superpowers. Powers are going to be assigned as the RP progresses. Yes, there may be some superhero activity later down the road. But the group needs time to develop. The villains will be about 10 years older. Many will be psychotic. Yes, there is a backstory as to why - and how they got their powers - that is associated with the club's sponsor.

The RP begins a couple weeks before school starts as new students arrive and are assigned rooms. One small blessing - freshmen have roommates. But those will be freshmen as well.

Each Hall (192 freshmen) will be assigned a small group of mentors (Juniors for the freshmen; Seniors for Sophomores). The mentors will be monitored by guidance counselors. There are a LOT of Halls (about 10 just for the freshmen). There are 60 more halls. Each graduating class is nearly 2000 students.

Special Halls
There are also special Halls that are dedicated to clubs much like fraternities. These MUST be sponsored. And you can only get into them by being accepted into their club. This is pretty much the only way a freshman gets a private room.

Oumuamua (Superpower MxF or FxM)

In 2017 an asteroid of interstellar origins passed through our solar system at over twice the escape velocity of Earth. It was nearest to Earth (0.276 a.u. Or 25 million miles) on October 8, 2017. Any meteorite activity from the visitor would have hit Earth around Oct 18.

Starting around 2020, humans with strange abilities began to emerge. Many of these humans have proved dangerous, using their new powers for personal gain, or lacking any control. As a result governments around the world began the hunt for these “mutants”. Most are taken to special “quarantine facilities” for study.

Laws have been passed that requires all mutants to surrender themselves to the authorities. Under the Patriot Act they have no civil rights. Of course, not everyone agrees with this. There are advocates for mutant rights. And officially the government will take rights into account - for those mutants who turn themselves in voluntarily. Those who aid and abet may be subject to felony charges.

It is now a requirement to have a blood test to obtain or renew a driver’s license. All children in schools must now go through testing. Unfortunately there have been many false positives. And it is equally likely that many positives have been missed. But the testing process is still being perfected.

Powers
Think along the lines of the mutants in Gifted. (I am NOT using the X-Men or MCU. This is an original setting.) I would prefer to avoid RP breaking powers like time manipulation, telepathy, mind control, etc. Too easily abused in my opinion.

Plot
This is not a hero vs villain RP. As far as the government is concerned you ARE the villains. Whether they are aware of you or not is the question. There may be as many as 8000 mutants worldwide. I has been nearly 6 years since the asteroid passed the Earth. If anyone has made the connection, it hasn’t been made public knowledge. However, this should give an idea of the LONGEST you should have had your powers. Most didn’t manifest right away. Most adults have to get their driver’s license renewed with a period like that though. Or if you were still a teenager in 2020-ish, you would have been tested.

One possible plot is to simply withdraw from human civilization. Another is to work on rescuing those who have been captured. Another is a blend of these ideas.

Setting
It is June 23, 2023. I am leaning toward Montana for a starting location. Basically an off grid sort of location. But that just depends on the characters used.

Characters
This is to be an MxF or FxM. I can run either role. We could also run two or more characters. (I have a female character in mind, but I can pick another. I have more than one character in fact.)

I do plan to use characters not out to break old laws. Ones regarding mutants is another matter. But they are basically good people. They will avoid breaking laws at all costs. Simply getting powers didn’t change them that much.
