if you have a "craving", write a story on your own, that way when you inevitably lose interest and quit you're only wasting your own time

@Cynder said I could post this here so here goes:

Kind of unrelated to the current topic, but a few things that I really like about this website as opposed to the other options are:

One, the minimalism. I'll agree that things like reporting posts, searching, etc (possibly more tags, that's a personal preference), could do with being finished. That, of course, is a Mahz issue. That being said, I don't need/want a ton of frills when I write. I like things neat, and I like them organized to the best of my ability. So when I can open up the site and find exactly what I'm looking for without having to struggle with 50 different subforums and shit, it makes me feel more at home. Most of the other forums I've looked at have felt like they were trying too hard

Two, I like the OOC/IC/Char thread combination. That alone takes out so much of the clutter you see on other websites. Cue an example of me having to make an OOC and IC thread that linked to each other every time I wanted to make an RP on a different website, and now it's all contained. I would definitely like to have maybe one more "Lore" tab, just to keep things organized for me, but it's non-essential. I would also like to be able to delete posts I don't need, as well as be able to insert posts in threads I've created, just to organize things better. I recognize that this is wishful thinking and isn't likely to happen for a while.

Three, I somewhat like how the alerts system requires you to manually remove a lot of the notifications. It helps me not forget about things which are happening. However, it is a bit touchy and sometimes doesn't keep somethings while keeping others around forever.

One of the things I would like to see improved would be a few things previously stated: that is, being able to remove PMs that are super old. It's just a pet peeve, and I thought I'd throw some support for that into the ring, if anyone is listening.

And as for selecting new mods, it seems to me that, given there's not safe way to pick someone trustworthy, the only way to make progress is to bite the bullet, open up some kind of application, and have the current mods pick someone or multiple someones for the job. They might turn out to be shitty mods. They might not. If they do, the other (current) mods can remove them. It's not a great way to do it, but it is something.

There's probably more things I could say, but I can't really think of anything else rn

EDIT: this is again assuming that Mahz okays it, which is a hurdle naturally

There's really no way to be sure, so it's definitely a possibility. I don't see Roleplaying dying as a hobby anytime soon though. Even outside of the main three (four?), people still Roleplay on Twitter, Tumblr, Discord, Facebook, VK, Skype, and various other social media platforms.

Yeah I was just thinking about tumblr: if you google RPing a lot of tumblr blogs will show up in a mix with the PBP websites. So it could possibly be that people are just moving away from these places to go to other methods of RPing.

Separately from that point above, there are a few things about RPguild that I really really like, which keeps me pretty comfortable here. I'm not sure if this would be the place to put that though
Is it also possible that Roleplaying as a pastime is fading somewhat in today's day and age? I don't really know how you'd measure that, but if it was a really popular thing to do several years back, and then a series of unfortunate catastrophes shut down a lot of roleplaying options at once, people just decided to find other things to do with their lives?

Or am I wrong, and the RP crowd has just moved away from RPguild to other places?
If I'm being honest, those websites seemed almost too excessive for me. So many different options and worlds and clans and shit people could join, when really i just wanted a place i could put down some writing like I had in the past. and as I said before, I like mixing and matching genres a lot so when you have Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Modern sections all separate it really kills the vibe for me

i'd much rather prefer a more cohesive set of tags

The big three are Roleplay Adventures, RP Nation, and Iwaku Roleplay.

Hey, thanks for the clarification. I've alway kind of just been on RPguild, and I heard about Iwaku a while back as well
<Snipped quote by Mercenary Lord>
Iwaku has about 300+ users on average from what I've seen. RPNation is definitely the most active of the three, but I'm still not convinced that not everyone on there is a sockpuppet.

Really...huh. It always seems like whenever I go on Iwaku their active online count is always lower than RPguild. Unless both sites count guests as part of their total count. I just checked Iwaku a few minutes ago, and it said their active count was 245, except about a third of those were guests. If RPG functions the same way, that's one thing, but otherwise I think it's in the middle of the 3

also i tried to do rpnation for a little bit and was plagued with the same issues mentioned in this thread, including disappearing GMs, but also very pretty threads with no substance to them
Somewhat irrelevant, but maybe not: what sites are being compared to rpguild here?

i ask because when i go on iwaku they have less than rpguild usually, and the only other place i know of is rpnation, which has a larger average active population, but also has an irritating method of organizing RPs that kind of hinders cross-genre improvisation which I like a lot

200 might not seem like a lot, but it seems fairly constant between 150-200 people most days

what other sites have a larger population that makes this site seem like it isn't big enough? I know guildfall had the guild take a big hit, and the slow redevelopment of the site is another reason for slow growth
To which?
HAPPY WEDDING WHOEVER IT WAS

also, for some ungodly reason i tried to give constance a little moment of paradise
what da fuck?

I think I may be dropping this one, seems like too high of a standard for me. If I have this much trouble just making a CS imagine how low quality my IC posts will be compared to the others.

Sometimes the CS is the hardest part tbh. Its the most...'permanent' reference of your character so it's held to a pretty high standard. The IC stuff would be less complicated, I imagine.
