@Dead Cruiser Both of those ideas sound cool. If Sphinx has telepathy he could have some other powers that naturally branch off of that, like looking into dreams or creating illusions. I wouldn't want him having telekinesis as well though. And if he has telepathy he can subtly influence people but outright trying to hijack people's minds should be a struggle even for NPCs and shouldn't happen to PCs. I also like the idea of a half-dead snarky villain sorcerer. I don't want the team to be mostly good guys and one jerk though, I'd like a good mix of good guys, bad guys, and the people in between.

@ClocktowerEchos Hmm well it's alright to have someone be extremely skilled in a few things and competent at others. I wouldn't want an omnidisciplinary scientist or some such though. And I fear we might be getting too many cerebral types. There has to be some good old fashioned firepower to balance it out. Of course nothings stopping you from having a character who's smart and can kick tons of ass, within reason.

@gaudi It was either Magnum or two models that caused the Apocalypse. Or both.
@jasonwolf Oh I forgot about the Nth metal. Hmm... well I know that a great many magical creatures have a weakness to either iron or silver so if you want to do that that's fine or any kind of metal that has purported supernatural properties. No straight up fictional metal for now however. If you're a magic character and you have something that amounts to a Valyrian steel sword, where its forged magically, thats fine as well.

@Leviathan It looks fine so far, I'm just unclear how her skill is a power? I'd like more elaboration on what makes her a metahuman. Does she have some kind of telekinetic control?

@Dead Cruiser Such as?

Well time-travel should be feasible if you have that meta-ability or the right supernatural knowledge, it's just extremely rare. I hadn't been planning on any appearing yet but you having a time-travelling pc should be fine, I'm just wondering how exactly they time travel and what do they contribute to the group? Why would they be included in the inner circle and not be written off as just another civvie?

@gaudi Actually it would be pretty amusing to watch a cross between this Roleplay and Zoolander :D
1. My apologies, I must have misread. So he's like a combination of logistic support/record keeper? That's cool but it should be elaborated on.

2. You can come up with other explanations. He can be a technical genius who invented a cybernetic prosthetic. You can come up with any power source as long as it makes sense. Keep in mind that your character having genius as a trait isn't enough, they have to back it up in the actual game

Ok, see there are a few problems with your character. It's not completely unworkable but there are some issues. I'm not trying to discourage you, just offering some advice on what I think needs a bit of tweaking.

1. Occupation is meant to be what your character does in the Citadel, not what they used to be. The structure of the federal government has almost completely broken down, so he isn't the head of the CIA anymore. It's also kind of unfeasible for such a young guy to have been the head of the CIA, the government isn't really a meritocracy its all about politics and I doubt any person under thirty, no matter how talented would ever be the director. So your character needs an actual function in the survivor society and a feasible background. They could have been a CIA Agent, but not someone with that much political pull. And how did they end up with the others?

2. Your character's powers are too all over the place. I might not have made it clear before but your character can go in one of four categories: Metahuman, Psionic, Supernatural, Normal. Psionic humans are the only ones who actually have different genes from baseline humans, metahumans basically just develop their powers almost like magic. It's not the Flash where he got his powers in a lab accident, or Superman who was born with powers. The distinction has to be clearer for your character. I stated up front that I don't want random mixing of powers. Your character can have a genius IQ, they can have electric powers, they can have enhanced physical stats. But they can't have all of that at the same time in addition to a robot arm. A character who was born with a genius IQ, superpowers, and only one arm is emblematic of the special snowflake syndrome. You have to choose what powers would make sense working together. Is he a genius with technical skills? Does he have electrokinetic powers? Is he stronger and faster than the average human? You have to choose one power set. Unless your character is supernatural or a Superman expy I'd like to avoid combo platter powers.

Those are the things I'd like to be tweaked but again this is just advice not a condemnation and I'm always open to dialogue about this kind of thing.
Okay boys and girls, the time is now, the game is afoot, the iron is hot, the OOC is up!

Feel free to submit your sheets for review I'd like them all by Wednesday but we'll start as soon as I get four active characters.

I might have gone a bit overboard with the backstory, but I feel I painted a good picture of how the Apocalypse came about. You don't need to read all of it but give it at least a skim. Do pay attention to the Character sheet and rules. The bestiary is empty right now but it should fill up quickly and feel free to put in ideas for enemies you'd like to face.

This is a game of cooperation and survival. You play former heroes, former villains, and everyone in between. You are responsible for working together to support, provide for, and defend the civilian population of the Citadel and rebuild society. Every choice you make matters and it is your combined efforts that determine the success or failure of the colony. Lives can be saved or lost depending on what you do, even your own characters can be killed under extreme circumstances. Whether you're scavenging for supplies, guarding the wall, patrolling the streets, or performing some other support role your contributions matter. This is a long-term roleplay and the consequences of your actions carry over from one phase to another. This roleplay can end in the beginning of a new world or the destruction of the Citadel and anywhere in between. It's up to you to decide the course.

Over the course of the game you can build your relationship, develop your skills and abilities, gain new equipment, and grow as a character. The focus of the roleplay is on how your characters interact and change as people as well as how they affect the survival of the Citadel. You aren't meant to play a static character going from one crisis to another, half the fun should be collaborating with other players and bouncing your characters off of each other. This isn't a game played just to win, the goal is to have fun with everyone else who is playing.

Major Events

I could just tweak the zombies to classical necromantic living undead types. I'm planning on various creatures to populate the land, both bestial and sentient, so no worries there. And of course not every other enclave of human survivors is sane or friendly.

There's always room for more but four should be enough to start, I should have the OOC up Monday at the latest
Hmm, I suppose I could cut out the zombies. Just make it a general supernatural survival roleplay. Other survivors and creatures as enemies and what-not. If I get any more interest and others feel the same I'll cut out the zombie hordes. Just make it a general post-apocalypse with some undead activity. Of course the core superhuman/supernatural elements will remain.

I might have to move this down to casual if nobody else in advanced wants in.

For a brief shining moment, the world had reason to hope and dream. Men and women with amazing abilities appeared all over the world. People who could shoot lightning from their fingertips, lift trucks over their heads, vanish in thin air, and fly. Some of them resembled the costumed heroes that could be found in comic books and films. Others resembled those of myth and legend, those with magic abilities. The world was forever changed. And not entirely for the better. Just as some used their superhuman or supernatural abilities for good, others used it to do harm whether for personal gain or in pursuit of nefarious goals. Just as heroes arose so did villains. Yet as dangerous as these villains where life seemed to be changing for the better. Superheroes cracked down on crime, mitigated natural disasters, and even began to heal the world.

Then the end came. For centuries magic had existed only in the shadows, on the fringes of the earth. Conflicts between supernatural beings and creatures had been fought in secret and the world of magic had been separate from the world of the mundane. Until one day, all of the magic back to the world. Ancient and powerful forces were set loose and a rift in the boundary between the supernatural and mortal planes temporarily appeared. Nobody knew how and why this occurred, only the effects. Suddenly Earth was thrust back into a forgotten age.

Those who manifested superhuman abilities became more and more common. More babies were born with magic potential than ever before. Creatures that had been gone from the world for centuries returned, from winged griffons to deep-sea leviathans and fire-breathing dragons. Chaos spread as the wild influx of mystic energy caused numerous natural disasters and magical creatures wreaked havoc on the functioning of every day life. The populations of predatory species such as Vampires and Lycanthropes exploded, and the established populations were unable to curb the relentless bloodlust of the new bloods. Recorded figures for demonic possession reached an all time high. The heroes became more and more hard-pressed, struggling to keep the world from tumbling into anarchy.

And then the dead rose. A plague swept through the world that animated the recently dead with a hunger for flesh. It spread across every corner of the globe within just a few years. The plague was spread by direct contact to tainted blood. For a time the heroes and the villains put aside their conflicts and used their abilities to stem the undead tide. But it wasn't enough. Global civilization collapsed and billions died over the course of the plague. The world as we knew it ended. Now zombies roam the cities and countryside in hordes while other predators stalk the survivors. Heroes and villains who died in the chaos still walk the earth, causing even more damage with their bloodlust and abilities.

In the ruins of the City of Angels, a tiny wisp of hope endures. A large number of heroes and former villains had fled west as the plague spread from the eastern seaboard. They banded together and used their powers to save of thousands of civilians and established a bastion of humanity called the Citadel. Lead by metahumans, survivors built an enormous fortress to shelter them from the monsters. Their survival hangs on a thread as every day is a struggle to defend the Citadel, scavenge for supplies, and keep their society running. The future of humanity rests on the shoulders of both former heroes and former villains. Old grudges still linger under the surface however, as unrest festers among the civilian populace, and creatures continue to roam the city in enormous numbers. And they aren't the only survivors. A violent and bloodthirsty band lives on the opposite end of the city, lead by a cruel and ambitious leader with growing powers. What happens next will determine the survival of our world.

OOC

Okay so this is a post-apocalyptic survival roleplay with a twist. All of the player characters are former superheroes and supervillains. This is inspired by the excellent Ex-Heroes series by Peter Clines that I heartily recommend, just with more supernatural elements. Your characters can have more comic-book type sci-fi abilities or any number of supernatural powers or even no powers at all but their skills. You can play two characters each and there is currently no limit to how many players there will be. Your characters can be scientists, doctors, or any number of individuals whose skills are suited to supporting civilization or you can be the ones who defend the Citadel from outside threats or venture into the city for supplies.

Your choices matter. The collaborative efforts of the group determine the survival of the Citadel, be it how well supplied the colony is, how many survivors are found alive, if you can stop the walls from being breached, if any threats are neutralized, and all manner of other things. As your characters all have important functions every choice matters. This is a long-term roleplay, my plan is to have multiple stages of play with each successive stage determined by how well the players did in the last one. Play all your cards right and we can rebuild civilization. And if we make an extremely terrible mess of things the roleplay ends with our survivor society collapsing entirely. And anywhere in between.
