Dear Mr Curly,
I have done little travelling lately because I have been so dreadfully weary. Can it be true as the old Ecclesiastes said; that all things lead to weariness? Surely not. Perhaps the opposite is true: that all nothings lead to weariness. I have a peculiar feeling, Curly, that I am worn out from something I haven't yet done and the more I don't do it, the more exhausted I become. How strange. Could it be something I haven't realised? Perhaps it's something I haven't said? Something I haven't finished! It must be very large and true whatever it is and a lively struggle in the doing but I look forward to it immensely. I know I need it. First, however, I must curl up in my chair and sleep deeply with the duck. Perhaps I'll dream of this thing and wake up refreshed and do it. My fond wishes to you Mr. Curly, and to all Curly Flat.
Yours sleepily,
Vasco Pyjama

P.S. Not having breakfast can make you weary. That's for sure!

I'll write up a post now to skip to dinner at the end of the day. I'll summarise Meesei and Sabine's day, then summarise the other scenarios in the following posts. After my next post might be a good time for Ahnasha to get back. All of the lieutenants would probably be rather hungry by then.
Sabine glanced between Meesei and her hand while she heard Meesei's explanation. Once complete, Sabine nodded and stopped to think about it more thoroughly. At first, the analogy seemed strange. Not for the fact that Sabine didn't have much experience smoothing mud, but how exactly she could 'shape' her magic in such a way as to stabilise her pain. She took Meesei's advice to observe a pain free part of her body first and hovered her free hand over her knee, with magic glowing to discern it. With that and some more cursory analysis of her cuts, she blinked a few times, then formulated a sort of 'shape' of magic in her mind that might work. She had to concentrate incredibly hard to maintain it, but her next attempt to calm the pain was far more generally successful. It wasn't perfect, however. She continue tweaking and concentrating for a few minutes.

Right before Sabine thought she had her technique all but sorted, she attempted to numb her pain just once more. She concentrated on the perfect shape after knowing her hand more intricately than she ever had before. It was then a small whine started to emanate from Rhazii. Sabine shut her eyes, trying to keep the shape consistent. It was numbing her pain. Rhazii's cry intensified. Sabine scrunched her eyes shut, desperately trying to hold out. Sabine's mouth tightened as the noise didn't stop. As hard as she tried, the shape was lost and she sighed in further frustration.

Opening her eyes did reveal Rhazii's tense face sounding a strained wail in Meesei's arms, but Sabine couldn't stay mad. It was surprising that Rhazii had remained quiet for so long, all things considered.

"His cloth is soiled," Sabine pointed out. The smell confirmed her words. "I almost had it. I almost had the shape," Sabine said, looking at the ground with a disappointed face.
Well, there's been no action sequences. I doubt it has been a problem.
Whereas before the pain that Sabine perceived was a messy maze of blurry lines, like a fistful of hay, the numbing of most of the pain as well as Meesei's description helped to visualise it far more effectively. It started to be less like a haystack and more like tiny threads, splitting into smaller and smaller forks until they nearly disappeared where the pain was.

Sabine was overeager in trying to numb the pain and wasn't very successful. Instead of stabilising the field, she just seemed to push it elsewhere, causing the strange side effect of her arm feeling like it was stretching and extending until the pain in her hand was a phantom one, coming from the open space in front of her. The combination of the surreal out of body experience and Meesei's own numbing becoming disturbed made Sabine quickly stop channelling her magicka and wince.

The second attempt Sabine made was slightly more successful. She was more delicate with her channelling this time, focussing on a small area. This time, she was able to stabilise the magicka as Meesei had said, but not completely. There were still spots of pain where the nerves were not aligned as the others were. Each time Sabine tried to stabilise them, others would destabilise again. Sabine tried to cover the entire area in futility until several minutes passed and she twisted her mouth in frustration. "How do you keep track of all of the pain? I have to concentrate hard. I can't get it all."
Eh, the nature of Shiva's enlistment was already explained.
Shiva's shoulders tightened when Telmeck asked her whether she was a criminal. Perhaps the information hadn't been permeated as she expected. She would have to thank Shuo and Rareth later for respecting her secret, but in the meantime, this was awkward. She turned and looked over her shoulder to Telmeck, not really sure what to say past her tense expression.

"Umm-" Shiva was cut off by a chastising slap to Telmeck's nose courtesy of Rareth from his lap. The way Rareth spoke about Shiva's history made it seem much more forgivable than it had been before. Rareth being drunk probably caused that, but it at least took the edge off the shame. "Heheh, I guess you didn't know," Shiva said nervously and quietly. She glanced between two points on the floor, then raised both her palms with an uneasy grin. "Surprise!" Shiva did not exactly sound enthusiastic.

Out of the corner of her eye, Shiva spotted something in the food cabinet that she recognised as a tin of synthetic red meat. It wasn't the most luxurious of food, but it was familiar. After taking it and fumbling around for a piece of suitable cutlery, she brought it back to her chair and began eating. The first swallow helped her to regain her social courage.

"Hey Shuo, what would happen if you turned off your implants?" Shiva asked to keep the changed subject in place.
"No more wine? Aww..." Shiva whined at Rareth's announcement, "But I was going to be more irresponsible! Oh well..." Shiva slowly stood up and stepped hard to regain her balance, but she was steady as a fortress after but a moment. "I'll see what there is to eat," Shiva said as she walked over to what appeared to be a chilled cupboard. "I could go for...hmm...what is that human spice thing? Vanilla?" Shiva didn't expect there to be anything of the sort in a military vessel, but she didn't mind.

Shuo was someone who held a tough posture just like any model sovereignty soldier, at least to Shiva. To see him so wobbly and vulnerable was nothing short of hilarious. Even the simple question that he asked about Shiva's spike sent the tipsy medic into a short laugh. It was a wonder she could answer at all. "Why do you think I have my spike cut, idiot? They don't just hand tempu crims a sharpened spoon when they walk into their first day at prison. Shen forbid they allow masulus to be any less worthless." Shiva opened the cupboard and was refreshed by the cool air that escaped. There was a selection of things that she leaned down to get a closer look at. "They don't mind so much when you're drafted, for whatever reason, but it's said the parole office prefers it when you keep it filed down."
I'll post the summary of Kaleeth and Lorag's mornings once they catch up with Meesei again.
Vera didn't turn around immediately. She took a few moments to react. Her stillness ended with her wiping her eyes, rubbing her face, and taking a deep breath to level her mood. "The children generally have classes until the mid afternoon. I only teach them in the morning." Vera took one more deep breath through her nose and turned to walk to the door. Her face was still red with emotion, but her expression was more blank, trying to settle herself. She avoided eye contact with Kaleeth to keep herself from feeling shameful. "I give them some material to practice with in their own time. Mostly the older children. Any further practice is only done if they want, but they prefer to spend time playing and socialising. I don't blame them, I was the same at their age."

Once she reached the door, Vera reached her arm out and pulled at something on the other side of the door frame. A small but loud bell began chiming and she cupped her hand to call out into the halls. "Come now, children! Time to come back to class!"

As much as she tried to hold her cut shut, Sabine trailed a few droplets of blood as she and Meesei found a space for their lesson. The pain was such that Sabine was having some trouble even listening to Meesei. However, the information was important enough that she was still able to take it all in.

The concepts of healing and pain were something that Sabine was marginally familiar with via her alchemy, but magical healing was going to be more detailed. She could tell that much. Trying herself to see the pain through magical means was not obvious at first, especially since the real feeling of pain was far more prevalent to her senses. There was a disturbance as Meesei said, though the subtlety made it difficult to pinpoint. In an attempt to see it better, Sabine took Meesei's advice and incised a shallow cut into the side of her hand with her dagger. Seeing the pain develop in real time with her magic, and with a less painful wound, made the effect much clearer.

Despite the success, Sabine was rushing herself. "I see it. It's hard to see, but I see it," Sabine looked up at Meesei, her hands shaking slightly. "The pain is making it hard to think. Can you please heal me now?"
Agreed. I just felt their personalities and actions had to be displayed a bit more clearly so that Kaleeth and Lorag could report back with a little more detail, but I think enough has been done. I'll summarise the rest of the morning for Harriet and Vera in my next post. I can't guarantee that it'll be tomorrow because a lot of stuff is happening, but I might have more time in a day or two.
