Dear Mr Curly,
I have done little travelling lately because I have been so dreadfully weary. Can it be true as the old Ecclesiastes said; that all things lead to weariness? Surely not. Perhaps the opposite is true: that all nothings lead to weariness. I have a peculiar feeling, Curly, that I am worn out from something I haven't yet done and the more I don't do it, the more exhausted I become. How strange. Could it be something I haven't realised? Perhaps it's something I haven't said? Something I haven't finished! It must be very large and true whatever it is and a lively struggle in the doing but I look forward to it immensely. I know I need it. First, however, I must curl up in my chair and sleep deeply with the duck. Perhaps I'll dream of this thing and wake up refreshed and do it. My fond wishes to you Mr. Curly, and to all Curly Flat.
Yours sleepily,
Vasco Pyjama

P.S. Not having breakfast can make you weary. That's for sure!

Fendros looked down and wrapped a hand around his mouth in thought. When he lowered his fingers from his lips, he did not sound convinced. "While that would be an easy solution, that risks clansfolk looking for revenge. This could spiral into something...difficult, if we're not careful."

"They can just challenge Hal-Neesa, right?" Sabine cautiously said.

"It's not that simple," Fendros responded. "They know they cannot defeat you, Hal-Neesa, and you are also an outsider to them. They'll either expect us to make an example of you or band together to try the same thing." He sighed and met Hal-Neesa's eyes, mulling over another possibility. "Look, Hal-Neesa, Ahna has told me about what you agreed upon. I trust she has demonstrated her skill and commitment. Would it be too much to ask to retrieve just this one missing body to put this situation to rest quickly? We can work out some story about a rogue Falmer necromancer or something."
Ahnasha's reassurance did make Fendros relax and clutch Ahnasha's hands gratefully. He neither had the inclination nor the time to respond regarding making conversation with the morally questionable ancient vampire nearby.

"We'll discuss what to do about the missing body after this," Fendros rushed out before they reached the door. "I cannot leave that unfinished."

Despite the quick end to the conversation, Fendros did slow down before the door and brace himself before facing the stench again. Within, Sabine was standing up with her hands clasped together and her head bowed down. She looked up when Ahnasha and Fendros entered again. She did not intend to have any tea unless Hal-Neesa insisted.

Fendros crossed his arms. "Saras, Sabine," Fendros said, stopping to chew on the poor taste the words were going to leave in his mouth. "Until such time as I or someone above me says otherwise, this is not to be known by anyone save for the adults in Meesei's pack. Understand?"
After a few moments with his eyes closed, Fendros let out a breath. "I don't have to like this Ahna. It's risky, even with what you say. But...listen, if you truly feel you can do this safely..." He hesitated with his mouth hung open. "...I trust you. Even if I didn't, I couldn't stop you. Just tell me right now that you will not tie yourself up with Hal-Neesa for anything that comes after the invasion. At that point, all wagers are off and no one can say what she'll do."

Fendros blinked and shook his head. "So she's good at teaching and she's showing you new things. She is still bad news, Ahna. To think she's doing this out of some grander plan where we aren't exploited into something horrible is wishful thinking. What makes you think she could not just change her mind on a whim and decide to hold you hostage to get to the rest of us? Or perhaps she could take away Rhazii and make you do whatever she wants, having trained you to be as capable as she needs you to be?"
Fendros held his breath and tensely showed his teeth. "I don't know if that's all those rites are-...never mind. It's not important." He returned to a look of concern. "I appreciate you saying as much. Still, if Hal-Neesa's 'punishment' has you worried, don't you think it's time to finish off this deal between you and stay at arms length?" He lowered his voice. "I could not bear anyone I love to be at the mercy of someone that ruthless. Especially not you again."
Fendros let the subject of whether Hal-Neesa had reasons to use Ahnasha go for now. He felt his point still stood. Regardless, there was the more immediate matter to address.

"Ahna, it's crossing the line to steal the clan's bodies like that," he said. "I understand that after all this time doing this on your own that might have seemed like the only option, but..." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "You know I would have helped you find the last few bodies anyway, right? Even if I disagree with trusting Hal-Neesa, you're in this situation whether we like it or not."
Fendros pouted with an uncommitted 'what' and glanced between Ahnasha and the caverns around them in disbelief. He blinked twice and craned his head forward. "Are you listening to yourself?" He held up his hand, forefinger and thumb nearly touching. "I saw Rossarm get this close to besting her in a magical duel. That makes at least two people on our side capable of bringing her low. With what Sabine can do with that staff she found, it could even be three." Fendros let it sink in for just a second. "You might be learning how to become a bloody Divine for all it matters. She can and will use you, Ahna. And these days, she has every reason to."

He straightened. "And now, with a dug-up grave with a trail that leads to your secret laboratory here-" He put the tips of his fingers on his chest. "-I have to cover for you and hope that Saras and Sabine decide to as well." He held a fist up on his hip. "This is a...putrid situation you've put me in, Ahna. Even before knowing that you didn't trust me enough to tell me."
Fendros did not know what he wanted to say. In the long pause between them, he clenched his jaw and look up at a distant cavern wall.

"...You know I know you do necromancy," he stated, clearly taking a careful pace to avoid raising his voice. "The whole pack knows. But Hal-Neesa is the single most dangerous person we personally know. Someone we have no business trusting. Why..." He stopped to look painfully at Ahnasha. "...Why did you keep this a secret?"

Sabine stuttered in response. "I...of-of course." She brought the kettle forward to manually boil it's contents with her magic. "A map would be invaluable. With more likely places to search, I will try to find the scouts and take them elsewhere. I will find the time."
Sabine was taken by just enough surprise that she stood dumbly for a pair of seconds before drifting to the food storage. She kept glancing up from filling up the kettle as if making tea in such a disgusting space was too absurd to do seriously.

She had hoped the silence after Fendros and Ahnasha stepped out would linger. Hal-Neesa's words ended those hopes and tied a knot in her stomach. "We have parties sent out further into the cavern." She breathed through her mouth to keep her nose spared, making her breaths in rather conspicuous. "And three more parties aboveground to other ruins. Still searching. There are too few Dwemer places that have undisturbed chambers."

Outside, Fendros did not let Ahnasha go without his eyes boring into hers at every moment she faced him. At first, he could feel anger welling up over the confusion, but he instead caught himself and took in the fresher air. Still, thinking on the words Ahnasha said made him run his hands down his face and breath loudly out into his palms.

"You gave her thralls?" He said as his eyes peeked over his fingers. "You gave Hal-Neesa thralls that you made for fighting?" He was afraid to find out more. "How many?"
