Bio

I've finally made it through a long stretch of work days! I plan plug away at this bio while I have some time. I'm considering trying to get into 1x1 RPs, but I'm not quite sure what the proper way is to reach out to potential partners.

This is a link to the guide page provided to me by Stormyx:

A little bit about me as pertains to collaborative writing.

I’m in my thirties and so identify as a dirty millennial, which I suppose is somewhat reflected by the fandoms I am familiar with. I know a decent bit about Star Wars lore, I played the Dragon Age games up through Inquisition, I played a handful of the older Pokémon games, and the only anime I have ever watched is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I read the Lord of the Rings books, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion and I watched the LoTR movies and the first two Hobbit films. I read the Song of Ice and Fire books and watched the first season of AGoT. I read a number of the popular Young Adult series that were popular when I was growing up, such as the Inheritance Cycle, the Twilight Series, the Hunger Games and its sequels, and Divergence and its sequels. I watched all of the Harry Potter movies, and I read the last three books. And I think that is about it for my Fandom knowledge that I think anyone would care about. Somehow I’ve managed to survive three decades without seeing Avatar the Last Airbender until I started watching it with my partner just a few days ago as I write this in November 2025.

As far as my writing interests go, I find myself drawn toward Historical Fiction and Fantasy when it comes to genres, although I dabbled in Sci-fi, Steampunk, and Superhero settings when I wrote on another website. I can see myself writing in any combination of the above genres with a preference towards the former.

That clears up a lot. So basically, our characters would be from Earth in the year 2025 one moment, and then something would happen, and then they would find themselves in Mer with a bunch of new skills, superhuman capabilities, and supernatural abilities. I guess they would also arrive with some (or all?) of their equipment?

Now for a few more questions. How realistic do you want to be regarding logistics? Like, if my character is proficient with M4 Carbines, will their M4 Carbine become useless as soon as they expend all of the mags they arrived at Mer with? Would the people at Mer somehow have the ability to fabricate 5.56x45mm cartridges?

What kind of equipment would the demons be using? Would they mostly be using futuristic or modern-ish stuff, or would the demons be fighting with claws, flaming swords, and fire breath?

I guess the idea of using all kinds of weapons is cool, but there is a reason that swords have mostly been phased out of combat. I would think that being a master duelist wouldn't help my character that much if they found themselves having to clear machine gun nests or defeat tanks, battle mechs, drones, planes, helicopters, etc. If the demons are using sufficiently advanced technology, I can see abilities like turning into a big golden dragon becoming disadvantagous, since you would then become a large target that could be subjected to a bunch of shells, large caliber bullets, and missiles.

On a related note, what kind of punishment are you expecting our characters to be able to take? Would our characters be able take a dozen shots from a heavy machine gun and survive, or get shot in the chest by a demon sniper from half a mile away and not have to spend the next few weeks at a hospital? Would our characters have armor that could defeat several hits from the enemies we are facing?
This concept intrigues me as much as it flummoxes me. I've never played Pathfinder, but my brother did play the computer game you mentioned and he gushed to me about it. It appears to me that this game you are planning to run is free form, and so won't involve all the dice rolling and math that playing Pathfinder typically requires, which I'd like, as I have no idea how to design a strategically viable Pathfinder character.

Even if my assessment is correct, there are still a lot of things about this concept as I am interpreting your Opening Post that confuse me.

Firstly, are our characters being Isekai'd from our world (Earth 2025) to Valykar, or from a fantasy world to Valykar? Are our characters adventurers possessing their Archetype skills prior to being Isekai'd or do they suddenly find themselves with all of these new skills upon finding themselves at Valykar? Are our characters all humans, or could they be other fantasy or alien races?

Secondly, it appeared to me that some of the Mythic Paths listed in that wiki are only available near the end of the game, such as the Swarm that Walks or the Golden Dragon. Is it safe to assume that for the sake of balance (and being able to plausibly be able to work with other players) that these Paths are off limits? Also, are you expecting players to have an Archetype and a Mythic Path, or are you expecting players to base their abilities off of one or the other?

Thirdly, your mention of all of our characters having superior speed and strength implies that everyone basically will already have fighter stats. Do you think this will make characters that go for more of a wizard-like archetype unbalanced, since that character wouldn't have the usual drawback of being vulnerable in close quarters combat?

Lastly, since this takes place in a sci-fi setting, would characters use sci-fi weapons like laser rifles and energy swords instead of cudgels and bows like the Pathfinder classes would typically use?
Whew, there's a lot of material to read at the guides section! Thank you for pointing it out to me and providing a link! I appreciate the Discord invite too!
Hi Moonberry!

I see what your saying. I'll keep that in mind, although I find trying not to worry to be quite a challenge.

I appreciate you being so quick to welcome me!

I admire your dedication to your marketing strategy. I will admit that have rather silly beef with marketing, which I feel is intended to be rather coercive by its nature. My inner rebel feels the need to reject all such pressures, and so I will never buy a car from a car dealer that I hear on an advertisement on the radio just to spite them, lol. Which is not to say that I think you should desist from greeting all of us who introduce ourselves in this space, but rather that my own cynicism leads me to find your overtures a bit more repelling than I probably should. I don't think there is anything malevolent about your strategy or your efforts (I actually admire your proactivity), however, I guess I don't like feeling manipulated, which I suppose translates into the fact that I would rather you tricked me into thinking I was the only person you made this offer to, lol. It's amazing how stupidly contradictory my feelings can be.

I'll add that I find the notion of trying to jump into an existing roleplay intimidating, as I feel like I need to learn everything I'd need to know to not miss something that had already been explained for fear of not being aware of something that is obvious to everyone else, not to mention having to push myself into an existing group. I suppose the nice thing about the Isekai genre is that falling into a world that one doesn't understand rather comes with the territory though, so I suppose that does lower the barrier for effective entry a bit.
Hello anyone and everyone who feels inclined to read this. I am currently calling myself Nimriel. It looks like I have the potential to change my name if I so desired, which is cool, not that I am not currently planning on doing so. Anyway, I am still in the process of pondering what exactly it is I am hoping to accomplish through participating in the activities this website has to offer. I’ve done mostly group roleplay games on another website awhile back, which was fun until it became awful. There is certainly a part of me that hopes to find another such wonderful place of unbridled creativity, although realistically I probably do most of the bridling of my own creativity by giving in to my anxiety. I suppose what I seek is a place that inspires me to write something I can feel reasonably good about that satiates my creative itches. My ADHD and codependency make it hard for me to self motivate without feedback. The thought of sitting down and trying to write an entire novel seems impossible to me, but I believe I can find writing smaller chunks for a small audience to be fulfilling. I did once upon a time.

I find myself drawn toward historical fiction and fantasy when it comes to genres I enjoy, although I dabbled in Sci-fi, Steampunk, and Superhero settings when I wrote for that other site. My fandom knowledge is quite limited, which I fear will be a problem. I watched all of the Harry Potter movies, and I read the last three books. And I think that is about it for my Fandom knowledge that I think anyone would care about. Somehow I’ve managed to survive three decades without seeing Avatar the Last Airbender.

I’ve been looking over the most recent Interest Checks for the various free-er form RPs, and in general I feel rather intimidated by what I see. I don't really trust my own skills as a writer or roleplayer to provide what people want, particularly when it comes to romance and smut. I suppose a lot of this comes down to my own anxiety and tendency to project my own disappointment in myself onto other people, but I’m sure that newbs such as myself are a hassle to deal with as well. I’ll do what I can to try not to be a hassle, but I’m sure I’ll do something that rubs someone the wrong way, so I apologize in advance.

To that effect, if there is any advice that any of you experienced who happen to read this have regarding what I should know and be careful of in order to not make an arse of myself on this website, I am all ears, or um, eyes I guess, since I will be reading this.
