Name: Michael Val'Holryn

Former Occupation: Sanctioned Battle Psyker

Equipment: Reinforced greatcoat (flak plating sewn into the vest of the coat) Other misc Telepathica regalia.

Force staff

Emperor's Tarot Deck

Personality: Despite the numerous indignities piled on him after being foricbly taken as a young boy for training in the telepathica. Michael Refuses to be the snivelling cretin they wanted him to be. he remembered the status of his birth, the meaning of it and took strength from his heritage to hold his head high and rise above such petty indignities.

He carries himself the the nobility that was denied to him. As a point of self pride and image perhaps but it is none the less important. Belief in his natural strength of will, his families genes and legacy were powerful enough to aid him, and the shame he knew his father would have for him would be ever see his son crying and weeping in defeat. He used that to power his way through all the trials and hardships and tortures. to bite his lip and power through with determination and the zeal to prove that he was better and was less than the animal he was treated like.

Though he cannot recall either of his parents faces, he has clung to their name and still bears it with pride.

Notable Events: First, there was his selection. Michael was from a high born family on the hive world of Scintilla. His father was a Baron of hive Tarsus. Every day of his youth he was reminded of his status and his potential by his parents. He was told time and again that he would grow to be a leader of common men and most importantly, that one day he would rule at the head of his family. Leading his house to ever greater glories and prestige.

It was around five years old that he started to exhibit his psykic powers. His father tried to keep it quiet as did his mother. The last thing any noble house needed was fodder to be used against them. If it was discovered he was a psyker rival houses might use it as ammunition against the Val'Holryn name. Claiming anything from heresy to impurity of blood. In the end he was never certain how it was discovered. But when he was eight they came for him. His father was furious, and did everything from threaten to bribe to beg not to let his son and heir be taken from him. But the woman who took him merely flashed a symbol, something he now knew to be the Inquisitorial rossette. And demanded compliance or his house to face sanction and possibly extermination for hiding Michael from them for three whole years. His father had no choice but to relent.

The most notable event of any sanctioned psykers life is the soul binding, performed in the depths of the emperor's own palace. It was for Michael, and others the single most painful experience of his life. More than all the surgeries and 'administrations' of his instructors and tutors at the schola psykana. The fact he survived the procedure was a minor miracle in itself, And surviving without his eyes being burned from their sockets even more so.

But the soul binding is also one of the most incredible experiences one can ever have. To share a glimpse of the Emperor's own mind and inconprehensible power, to share for the breifest of moments a shard of his vast knowledge and existence was..... Well it was...... Indescribable. And he pities the common masses of the Imperium for never being able to share in that experience. That one moment does more to secure one's faith in the god Emperor than number of sermons.

Next would be his time in service to the schola Psykana. Training to become a living artillery cannon and more effectively counter heretic and xeno's witches. Some years spent working alongside more seasoned psykers in support roles. He learned first hand how to resist the temptations of the enemy and how to surpress the nightmarish whispers that taunted him as he pushed his mind to the limits of safety and spellcraft. He also become accomplished in the discipline of the Storm Wroth. Ejecting ones loathing and concempt for his enemies in the form of cackling bolts of edritch lightning and thunder. A simple discipline to learn but a good first step in his career non the less.

He never did finish his training and undergo trials for full Primaris status. During one deployment to Woldorn V his regiment was caught in the thick of hard and dirty fighting. He served as part of a larger psyker squad wreaking devastation through the enemy ranks and duelling what few would-be sorcerers rose from their ranks. Off the field he was tasked with probing the minds of prisoners and assisting in interrogations.

It was during the aftermath of this conflict that he was plucked from his attached position and 'requested' to serve the Imperium in a greater capacity than he currently was. A much greater and darker capacity that would see his abilities pushed in unconventional ways, and possibly expanded far beyond what the Telepathica was capable of providing, or allowing him to reach.

Time With Inquisitor: Five years. Since the aftermath of the Woldorn V uprising.

@Rithy

The GM declared this rp full up. And we are currently sitting at maximum number of psykers
@Brink@Valor

Here is an idea for one of you. Instead of playing someone linked to an established imperial organization. Someone could play a normal human, probably raised in a schola institute. And this person has been potentially marked as a candidate for inquisitorial training themselves. They aren't ascknlowedged as an apprentice or have that rank. but they might be assigned to an inquisitor or a series of inquisitors to test and train them before being assigned or selected by a more experienced lord for apprenticeship.
Also, why is playing a duplicate so bad for you guys? Just because they take on the same role and mantle doesn't mean they're the same person or whatever. Psykers have a wide variety of disciplines they can use and there's more the the Sororitas than just Sisters of Battle; its all there if you're willing to go look for it (which isn't that hard) and also willing to make a character that isn't a carbon copy of someone else's.

It also has to do with a sense of originality. Even if two people play psykers with opposite personality and styles it still wont feel completely separate. there is something to be said for wanting to play something more unique. Fill a niche so to speak and not feel like your character is too easily replaceable by the next man.

Yes there are other options outside but most of them are similar. there are only so many different ways to play a priest character for example.

And some choices just feel boring. I mean who really wants to be an administratium scribe?

I had considered making a seasoned drill abbot, But that would have worked much better if the inquisitor himself had gone through the schola. Worked it into the background that he recruited his old teacher as an advisor and so forth.
Any from the official temples maybe. But death cult assassins or a group specific to a sector or planet would be more mundane. There are probably hundreds of thousands of assassin groups across the Imperium.

Most would be skilled but not enough to take on am asartes
@Brink

Don't be so quick. I am brainstorming other possible ideas for myself.
@Brink

I was going to make a psyker. I felt we had enough soldier types and I find tech priests a little boring to rp.
@Brink

I agree with the DM. Four psykers is a little much. Even for a radical Inquisitor he is still ordo hereticus. Plus that is just oversaturation I feel.

This is getting to be a mighty big retinue. I may pull out of the rp for fear of this being too unwieldy.
If I were to make a sanctioned psyker. What would the limits on that starting character be? Obviously not beta level powerful.

But primaris psyker powerful? Or more ordinary battle psyker/senior astropath kind of power?
