my bad, I think I misunderstood the following line "Leo asked with a glint in his eye as he swept his blade through the air". I will edit as appropriate.

Also, thank for the clarifications. I want to assume that while Arn has probably been in service for 18 years (assuming you are put in service at 18) he may not be that high in the Battlemage ranks due to his lack of political finesse. Especially, if they are to be advisors or attachés.

Finally, does that mean that while attached to an element they are under that commanding officer's command?

Would they ever get attached to a knight element or only a foot soldier one?
@Vampiretwilight
the I guess we can do 1x1 via PM. Go ahead and start it off
@Vampiretwilight

up to you, we could do 1x1 if you feel you have not gotten enough attention here on the thread. Just let me know.
question? am I to assume that we are following military ranks? Would knights and mages be in the same service Army perhaps? If so, would battle mages hold a rank based on skill or are they only based on birth?

I was wondering cus in some services the mere completion of a school gives you a rank. I.e. Automatically a Non Commissioned Officer such as Corporal, Sergeant etc.

The marching orders had been cryptic but simple. Arn had merely nodded and gotten his ruck sack ready unlike the groans of complaint from the others in his squad. The battle mage was finished before the other had even reached for their own gear. He did not have much in the ways of possessions. Indeed, almost all he owned was gear issued to him by the military. The only things that had ever meant anything to him were already on his person.

On his neck was the medallion which had belonged to his mother. It was made of cheap metal and it had melted into a charred twisted version of its original self, much like his own mother when she died. Some may confuse it for abstract art, other would say that it was a trophy from the many victims of the Hellspawn’s flames. Few would know that it was the only thing he had of his mother.

The other items were strapped to his midsection. A set of ebony looking Daisho. These, unlike his medallion, reminded him of the temperance of mind and body. They had been a gift from his master and commander. The only man to have been able to get Arn to listen and the one who taught him about how to tamper the fire rolling inside him. His master taught him that war is no place for anger. Just as the blade does not feel so must the man. However, it is also the man who must decide who falls before his blade. It is here that the true essence of the warrior lies. Any man can kill another. Only a warrior knows that the life he takes is the necessary one. This would prevent any future self doubt and self punishment in deciding if what he did was right, just or honorable.

Arn shouldered his pack putting the straps through the armholes of his Flak armor. He had been on many raids and missions so certain habits were second nature to him. The battle mage set it down at their assigned spot. It would stay there, undisturbed, until it was time to load the ships and begin the mission. They would drop from the sky. His squad was nicknamed “The Shooting Stars”. However, the name had nothing to do with something as simple a wishing astral body. Indeed, many in the squad never stayed long. For just like their nickname, they soon burned up. The squad was made up mainly of lower ranked soldiers which were “Expendable”.

The battle mage cared nothing for these semantics. His job was to fall from the sky and unleash hell while the more prestigious members of the military came in and cleaned up the rabble to earn all the glory. He cared little for the politics of rank and station.

He was approaching their designated gear area to drop off his battle gear. This would be the place his squad would meet up at and receive their orders as they donned gear. He was the first one there which meant that his red tinted, samurai styled flak armor would mark the area the squad would utilize.

As he approached, he noticed two men, knights by the look of them, talking. He felt no need to approach them as he was not a socially inclined person but a name caught his ear.

Dalmer

He had heard the name before. Apparently, this knight was not like the others. Indeed they share very much the same status of low birth. However, apparently, this foot man turned knight had risen through the ranks. Arn was not sure if he was impressed or indifferent but he took a bit longer than necessary to drop of his gear. Just because he did not engage in politics did not mean he was not aware of them. He was no self proclaimed savior of those of low birth but he could not stand people utilizing their status to look down and harass others.

He straightened up when the obvious noble addressed the other knight with derision. An annoyed looked crossed Arn’s face as he looked in the direction of the two men who could not be more than 20 or so feet from him. the Battle mage did not want to be caught off guard in the event the lower ranked knight all of a sudden sprang on his superior. Arn took a step back and raised his hands.

He reached into the Aether. His eyes saw the the hidden bands that held the broken world together. He felt a buzz as his own soul connected in harmony to Gia. He felt that familiar feeling of falling through the air as his connection to Gia grew stronger. I his mind he pictured the very air atoms in front of him. If needed, he would push the strings in front of him. The result would be a blast of air he would aim at Leo.

Arn did not know what was going on but he did not want either of the knights to start something that would put the rest of the Army on edge an eve before the actual battle. He would not harm anyone but if needed he would try to talk them down.
I was thinking and Elven Archer. Like typical elves, they think themselves above others. he is a reluctant envoy from his race. More of a save face move on their part....until they discover the WW is smarter than they think and he has a reason why he took over that specific castle. Suddenly the real to all the races is very apparent.

What do you think? I can flesh out more if you have a character sheet to fill out or something. Or I could use a generic one.
@Vampiretwilight My bad, I had been super busy at work. I dont mind playing. I was just wondering what your post expectations are and also what kind of character you would like more of. Heroes or those aiding the WW?
posted CS. Also, is there a posting order or do we just jump into the fray?

Background:

Born of Hell’s Flames

Arn was born to a mother who had been sold to a brothel by pirates. He never knew why he had been allowed to live when other females merely killed the embryo in utero. Perhaps it was his mother’s need for somebody to truly love instead of the myriad of men who visited her bed.

Whatever the case, Arn grew in the rough and deadly environment of vice and vile. Despite this, he still thought that life had more to offer. He grew up really quick, always wanting to take care and protect his mother. He spent his time running from bullies and just trying to survive really. While he hid from the older kids, he would spend his time reading random books he found in the trash. His favorite was of oriental stories of men of valor, strength, and honor.

It was this mentality that steered him in the direction of trying to be a hero. It was one of time that a particularly violent customer visited his mother and he was hiding in the balcony that he attempted to act on his illusions of saving her from that life. He burst in while the man abused his mother. Arn tried to attack the man but ended up getting beat. His mother then tried to protect him and the drunk and angry man beat her unconscious. Thinking her dead, the young boy knocked the man down and in a feat of anger somehow activated his contact with Gea which manifested into an inferno.

Flames engulfed his hands which in turn devoured not only the violent man, but his mother and the building with all in it. Authorities would later report finding the crying boy holding the charred body of a female, his own hands sporting serious burns.

Learning to Temper the Fire

Eventually, it was discovered that the sad angry boy was adept in magic. He was recruited by the military and sent to study at the academy in Belisio. He was too dark, sad, and awkward to be of good social standing. However, he was able to forgo this with the sanctity of the vast library. It was here that he fully threw himself into learning all he could of magic. He felt that in some way, his mother’s sacrifice had unlocked this gift in him. It was a way for him to feel closer to her in a world where he felt alone. Due to his focus and innate gift, he was soon a top level student which meant he was in the focus of jealousy and bullying from less capable more influential students. Luckily for him, the military cared nothing for his lack of social know how. Instead, he went on to become the youngest battle mage so far.

Forged in the Fires of War.

Arn was no stranger to death and suffering even before he stepped into the battle field. However, he was too good of a killer even for his superiors. He specially seemed to be extra vicious against pirates or criminals. Many of his squad mates could swear they saw his dark eyes gleam with fire as he incinerated people who had been on the verge of surrendering. This and the fact he preferred fire attacks that earned him the nickname Hellspawn. He was headed towards a court martial when a Knight took him under his wing.

The only reason why Arn listened to him was because the knight reminded him of the oriental warriors he had read in his novels. The Knight taught Arn self control, temperance, and peace. Interestingly enough, this made him an even more efficient killing machine. However, this new facet was much more focused. He still felt no remorse in killing bad people, but his incidents of friendly fire were all but none existent. He won the trust of his squad mates and superiors but the nick name never went away. Indeed, many in the underworld still say the name in hushed tones.
