Name: Gustav "Lion" Berntson

Nation: Kingdom of Sweden

Age: 33

Occupation: Captain on HMS "Göteborg" in the Royal Scandinavian Air Fleet.

Equipment:

Personality: TBA

Bio: Gustav come from a family with deep military roots, and he constantly strives to live up to the glory of the Berntson family name. He was born on his mother's estate on the western coast of Jylland, Denmark, and lived there for for his first 5 years until his father sent him back home to Sweden to start his education. As he began attending school, he proved that he spoke both Swedish and Danish fluently because of his parents, and after 10 years he also spoke fluently English, and could understand German to an extent. While his father worked the rest of his political carrier for a unification of all the Scandinavian countries, Gustav grew to become a leader-figure amongst his fellow students in Stockholm.

While the Scandinavian people began the slow integration into the United Kingdoms of Scandinavia, Gustav and his fellow students graduated from the school with good grades, but while most of his friends would continue to study, Gustav felt that it was time for him to follow his family's military heritage. He joined a regiment of volunteers from all of Scandinavia, fighting for the South African Republic against the British South African colony, and like his father and grandfather, proved his commanding skills when his company's captain was killed and Gustav took command of the men, repelling the British attack. Promotions followed, and so did his men into the heat of battle.

Gustav came home mostly unharmed except for the regular bruises and scars, and joined the Swedish army. Life in the Swedish military was peaceful compared to his time in South Africa, but he enjoyed the prestige of the military life and its discipline, though he didn't mind the peace. Mostly peaceful, but sometimes accidents happen. When inspecting an ordinance factory as an army representative, an artillery-shell blew up next to Gustav, destroying his arm and injuring his right side.. His arm was barely saved thanks to a mechanical arm that could be mounted on his arm. Without it his arm is useless, and so he was pulled from the army and given a position in the slowly growing Scandinavian Air Fleet. But the arm gave him regular pains, and Gustav began taking unknown medication to bare with the pain.
I'm tempted to make a Swedish character, but I'm stuck on how he would be iconic and still fit in the steampunk theme :/ I know that Sweden wanted Finland back from Russia, and that they were reckoned as a strong nation and involved in European politics.
Good luck with whatever is wrong :) You're always welcome back!
Mind if I throw my hat into the fray too?

Hi Konrad, I thought I should stalk you a little so why not here :P
Not one moment could pass without Thomas hearing the unforgettable voice of Rane. This time he mocked Thomas for his attitude towards the Galactic Committee and that he actually made an effort to follow them, and of course Rane wasn't going to follow them like the psychopathic killing machine he was. Thomas saw that Rane by now had walked past them and didn't look at him, but nonetheless he gave him that killing stare with his one eye, thinking of all the times Thomas had saved his life instead of leaving him for death. And it was because of those damn regulations Rane made fun of that he was still alive. That, and that Thomas wasn't the cold-blooded murderer Rane was. Quite literately.

"Bealin' caffler..."

Thomas turned back to Val who must have wondered what on Earth was going on between Thomas as Rane, as if she wasn't nervous enough as it was. "You're welcome. And if you haven't met him already, that big lizard was Rane, insane and without a heart, be careful around him. He might be good in a fight and save your life, but he's still a nutter." Thomas said to Val as they walked behind Rane and Darius. Shortly after, they entered the docking bay, where they could see the shuttle that would bring the ground-team down, and Ace and Wrenchie making the recommended modifications to the shuttle. "Unlike you Rane, I can walk and talk simultaneously, and still notice that spot of dirt on your arse."
No worries if you ask me, I think we should get into action as soon as possible and start this mission. I'm eager to see what kind of planet we're exploring and what kind of beings live there. I have plans...big plans!
Out of curiosity, how does Rane know what an Irishman is? :P

lets not get ahead of ourselves, there's still plenty of time for them to kill each other.

Oh yes of course, but let's give each other some time to develop our characters a tiny bit more. And besides, first they have to become friends, and then find out that NO, you have to die!
Ah, I see that Rane has some respect for Thomas after all! Looks like the two of them won't be killing each other in the coming days, if we are lucky.
Thomas looked down at the books Val had just dropped on the floor, and back at Val's now brightly red face, wondering if she was going to pick them up. Instead she held out her hand like Thomas did, and so he grabbed it and shook it gently. Val wasn't a human, as looks often were deceiving as it was with many other intelligent races out in the vast universe. Some alien races had the look of humans, but their biology made them completely different species, and so healty offspring was rarely (and to the demise of many couples of aliens) unlikely.

It was a brief moment of silence as Thomas waited for Val to either continue the conversation or to pick up her books. She did neither, as Nafi, the cyborg-girl who was an assassin, not the profession Thomas respected the most but she had treated him with respect, unlike a certain reptile. Nafi asked Val if she had nerves for her first mission, and left while telling her that she would soon be up with the others. As she walked away, Thomas realized that Val hadn't been at the briefing and wasn't fully aware of the situation. He bent down, as the Sub-Zero suit was rather agile even for all its usage, and picked up Val's books. "You weren't at Captain Hunt's briefing, but I'm sure he'd want you to stay on-board the ship for now. We're going down to a ice-covered planet, with pools of lava spewing up through the ice, to record it's climate, rotation, and possible life-forms on it. You're a scientist if your files wasn't terribly wrong, so you should ask Captain Hunt for permission to have a direct video and information-link between us two while I take tests and samples down there." Thomas said to Val, holding the books for her to take back. She seemed young, and yes he knew that her race grew slower that humans, but she was still young for a scientist. Still, she was here, and Thomas wasn't going to ask twice for help with his tasks right now. "Follow me, I'll take you to the captain. We'll find him in the docking bay soon." Thomas added, handing Val her books and starting to walk towards the docking bay, ready for another good day's work.
