As Vivid slipped into the water Frostbite instead chose to slump down on the sand. He wasn’t the biggest fan of getting wet if he was honest. He was used to the frigid mountains of the Ice Kingdom or the one time when he’d been a young dragonet that he went to the NightWing’s island. He didn’t remember much of it, but he did remember that it was hot and humid. He was used to the sand anyway. He’d spent long enough laying on it that it honestly would feel weird to him to not be dealing with the shifting grains.
He let his head rest on his claws and closed his eyes briefly, finally feeling like he could rest without something looming over him. His eyes quickly snapped back open as the smaller hybrid spoke. He grunted in affirmation as she got his name right. Where she’d heard it he had no idea. “Nice to meet you too I guess,” he muttered, trying to ignore the stinging pain the sand caused. Both from the heat and from getting into the shallow scrapes on his flank and face.
Three moons, how could this dragon be so chipper after they’d just escaped from the Scorpion Den? She has just likely killed several dragons and yet her voice was chirpy and excited. He let his eyes slip shut again at the question. “Long enough to rest for a bit then I’m going in the direction of the Sky Kingdom,” a single ice blue eye opened to stare at Vivid, “You’re free. What you do is up to you.” So long as it wasn't following him around.
He didn’t want to end up carting some naïve young dragon around with him. That meant he had a greater chance of being caught, it would be harder to get places with two of them, and she was far too…uppity. He just wanted to rest at this point and then go somewhere that was much less hot. “I’m good thanks,” he mumbled out, shifting, trying to get comfortable on the hot sand without having to get wet.
Eventually he stood and breathed out a thin layer of ice onto the sand. That was something he could do now that his jaw wasn’t clamped shut. He was careful to make sure that it wasn't cold enough to actually hurt him, just keep him cool. He patted the sand down and laid back down with a sigh as the coolness helped soothe the aches. “I’d recommend some rest. It’s a long way to anywhere.”
The shock on Frostwhisker’s face was the kind of reaction she’d expected. Part of her was curious to see how much the she-cat would be able to cover, how willing she was to listen. Dawnstar had little use for warriors who weren’t completely loyal to her and her ideas. The lashing tail did not go unnoticed but the restraint was surprising from the blunt warrior. She’d seemed bold enough talking to her son, but now she was holding her tongue.
The question was expected and Dawnstar already had an answer crafted. “Many of our warriors, unfortunately, are very set in their ways. You’re new to being a warrior and are, I should hope, more willing to learn all you can.” Her whiskers twitched, though with what emotion it was difficult to tell, “You’ve grown up watching our warriors and know our ways, yet you’re still young enough to learn from our closest allies.”
One of Whitestar’s warriors would be coming to her as well, and whoever the tom chose would be welcomed. She wouldn’t trust them though. Part of why she wanted Frostwhisker there was to keep an eye on the going’s on in the camp. Listen for dissent and any rumors.
She smiled at the tabby, “I want you to take this opportunity to learn what you can. However, I also want you to listen. Gossip, rumors, discontent, anything that catches your attention.” She knew Frostwhisker was good at listening and it would be helpful to put those skills to use. “You’re a competent young cat Frostwhisker and I wouldn’t choose you if I didn’t think you were up to it. I’ll give you a couple days to settle your thoughts before you go to FireClan.” She waved her tail in dismissal, “Oh, and try not to mention the more…clandestine nature of your assignment,” with that said she turned her attention back to her constantly twisting thoughts with no further room for arguement.
The hurt that Sora felt when Lumi wouldn’t look at him was expected, but it didn’t make it any less potent. He was careful to keep any of it out of his expression though. He already felt like she hated him and he wasn’t sure how he felt about her. He had hated her before, when she acted all happy and like nothing was wrong when they were younger. Now she looked like more than a bit of a mess with her long, unkempt fur.
He swallowed down the urge to scream, or cry, as she said that she hadn’t heard anything from the family. “Yeah, I haven’t heard from them either.” He figured he could’ve reached out, but he didn’t know how to. He didn’t want to remember the horror, the shock, or the grief that his family had been put through when they got back from Ember Cave. He fought off the physical shake to banish the thoughts from his mind as Lumi asked him how he had been.
His mouth opened to respond, say he was fine as he always did, but he paused. He wanted to confide in his sister. Tell her all the pain and hurt that constantly pushed into his mind every day, the nightmares that he dealt with every night. When they were younger he wouldn’t have hesitated. He would’ve spilled his guts to her in a heartbeat, but they weren’t the same anymore and he doubted he would receive any sympathy from her.
“Not great but I’m making do,” he shuffled his paws on the ground and stared down at them. It was about as close as he felt he could get to being honest. The ‘not great’ could be assumed to be anything. Money trouble, difficulty at the guild, literally anything. “And yourself?” He did genuinely want to know how she was, but he didn’t really expect honesty. He kinda regretted even chasing after her at all right now.
Duskwing was pulled from the heavy claws of sleep by Fernstar's familiar yowl. As much as she wanted to stay snuggled deep in the moss and feathers of her nest it wasn't like she could ignore the call of the leader. Instead she huffed out a sigh and stood to stretch out her slender legs. She gently prodded Stormheart since she knew the silver tom would probably sleep through the meeting if she gave him the chance. He'd been out hunting quite a bit the previous day so she couldn't exactly blame him.
She slipped through the entrance to the warrior's den, not surprised that she was one of the first up and out. She gave Maplestream a nod as she passed by the nursery. She was more than willing to help, but she certainly didn't envy the other she-cat having to sit outside in the cold the whole night. She padded towards the Highstump and cleared away a bit of the snow and frost with her claws before settling down. She wrapped her tail over her paws and turned her pale green eyes to Fernstar.
Hopefully Moosepaw would be awake as well since it once the meeting was over she would be taking him out for his assessment. Given that it was winter she knew that it would be a tough one, but she trusted her apprentice's skill well enough.
The paw that prodded his side was lightly swiped at, but it was already too late. Stormheart sighed heavily and blinked open his eyes, squinting at the light of the early dawn sun. He fought back a slight shiver as he stood and shook the remaining moss from his fur. He just caught sight of Duskwing slipping out of the warrior's den and blinked in confusion. Why had she woken him up so early? He stuck his broad head out of the den and saw Fernstar standing on top of high stump. Ah, that would do it.
He shuffled his way out of the den and looked over to the nursery where he could still smell the strange cats from the day before. The thought of them still made his pelt bristle nervously. He sent Maplestream a shy smile, "Morning," he mewed softly as he put a bit of a quicker pace to his step to get to the Highstump. He settled onto his haunches nearby Duskwing and looked around to see if anyone else was awake and making their way to the meeting.
It would've been nice to sleep in, but he figured that if Fernstar was calling a meeting this early it must be important. He shuffled his paws slightly in the snow. Maybe it would be what they were doing about the strangers. He didn't like them being in camp, but then again he had been a loner before he had been welcomed in, so maybe they would stay. The idea made him uncomfortable, there was just something he didn't like about the way these cats acted. Still he would follow Fernstar's orders and if she said they would stay then so be it.
Oh, you're here for the challenge? Didn't realize it was that time already.
MAIN PROFILE
Name: Isaiah Cross (Izzy)
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Motostoke
Appearance Information: Isiah is tall, approaching 6' 4", though he does tend to slouch which allows him to be missed a bit easier in crowds. He does dress nicely on the regular, at least when he knows that someone might be seeing him, but when he's by himself it would take a massive force to get him in a tie. Despite the somewhat scruffy appearance he usually presents it's entirely intentional, down to the tired stare.
Personality: Isaiah is fairly quiet and reserved, but those who know him know that there's a caring person under the seeming disinterest. He's always willing to help those who come to him with problems, though he may grumble the whole time they're present. He can come off a little harsh and forceful in certain scenarios, but it is usually driven by concern rather than any actual malicious intent.
It does take a fair amount of time and effort to get to know Isaiah. He likes to spend time with his Pokémon and make sure that each one of them is up to the challenges that they'll be up against. That can, unfortunately in some cases, leave little time to focus on the human interaction. If someone approaches him though he'll take the time to get to know them as best he can. He doesn't consider that many people to be his friends though. He is, however, usually willing to chat with fans and is generally friendly when it comes to his projected image to the rest of Galar.
He is confident in his abilities and knowledge, and takes time to consider every angle of a problem before he offers input on how to solve it. Unless it's during battle in which case he prides himself on being able to think on his feet. He does have his moments of levity though and is not opposed to going out with his few friends, so long as he can get back in time to take care of his teams and the clinic he runs.
Short Biography: Born in Motostoke the son of a mechanical engineer and a doctor it was pretty clear from the beginning that his parents expected a lot out of him. Despite the pressure Isaiah did find himself growing up in a loving and caring household with his older sister. Being in Motostoke, from the time he could get out of the house on his own he liked to go and see the trainers challenging the gym and, like many kids, wanted to join the challenge when he was old enough.
Both his parents were all for it, under one condition. Once he hit a wall, as they seemed to figure he would, he had to start working towards an actual career. One that they had. He didn't exactly like the terms, but agreed and vowed to himself to not hit that wall. Unfortunately they were right, and despite making it fairly far in the challenge he was forced to drop out after a pretty hefty defeat. He did keep his word though and started the process of learning medicine like his father.
That didn't stop him from continuing to work with his team on the regular, finding a particular fondness for dark types, given his own quiet personality. His medical career was interesting and he liked helping people and Pokémon both, but he always found himself spending more time with his Pokémon than on his job. By the time he decided he wanted to try the gym challenge again he had built up quite the team and got significantly closer to winning the league than his previous attempt.
One more shot the next year, and another loss, and he found himself considering going back to his job before he got approached by the dark type gym leader. With plans to retire he needed someone new to take over and decided that Isiah had what it took to be one of the stepping stones for other trainers journeys. Though, he does still run a small clinic in the off season with a focus on physical therapy for people and Pokémon both.
Likes:
Tennis
Chess, checkers, puzzle games
Sweets, specifically baked goods
Dislikes:
Not having anything to do, being bored
Arrogance
Clutter or mess in general
Quirks:
Doesn't matter how much sleep he gets, he always looks like he's pulled an all nighter
Usually has something in his hands to fidget with
Despite wearing a suit it is rare the coat stays on for more than five minutes, he gets too hot too fast. Same thing happens with his lab coat.

Make sure to describe your Pokemon's name, appearance, and personality as you create your teams.]
[Pokemon #1]:
[Pokemon #2]:
[Pokemon #3]: ...
[Houndoom (Apollo)]: Apollo is slightly larger than average for a Houndoom, but despite this thinks he is incredibly small. This mostly becomes a problem when he tries to hide under tables or climb on Isaiah's lap. He's somewhat skittish and shy, but in battle jumps in quickly with a hard hitting flamethrower before slinking off to hide in some towels after the fight is over.
[Tyranitar (Shani)]: Nothing tends to stand in Shani's way, and not entirely because she's a massive rock lizard. She will put herself at the forefront of any and all fights with a brave face and confident grin. If a fight seems hopeless she is always willing to jump in and take a hit to prove that it isn't.
[Zoroark (Blythe)]: Despite the slinking nature known to Zoroarks, Blythe likes to be up in front, center of any and all attention. That's not to say he doesn't have the mischievous nature common to the species and he does take any and all opportunities to try and cause problems with his illusions. His fur is more black than gray and it allows him to creep around when he so desires.
[Bisharp (Jem)]: It is difficult to see expression on Jem's face, given the helm, but he does always seem happy. No matter if a fight goes good or bad he is the one to go around and pat everyone on the back. Amongst the more pushy members of the team he's a nice balance point that Isaiah greatly appreciates.
[Hydregion] (Zhanna): Zhanna is an intimidating looking Pokemon, but she really is a sweetheart. At least off the battlefield. On the pitch she is a no mercy sort of fighter who will do everything in her immense power to win a fight and she is the most crushed in the event of a loss.
[Obstagoon (Roswell)]: Roswell is likely the most troublesome on the team due to his forceful and demanding personality. He is arrogant and that can lead him to push around other members of the team and despite Isaiah's best efforts he hasn't quite been able to correct that. It probably doesn't help that Roswell is, by virtue of what he is, the signature Pokémon of the team.
[Umbreon (Jasper)]: Jasper is the most relaxed of all the members of both teams. He's perfectly happy to sit back in his pokeball instead of leap teeth bared into the fray, but he does have his strengths. Mostly in taking hard hits that the rest of the team might not be able to. His favored spot is not in the stadium, but rather in any spot of sunlight he can find.
[Honchkrow (Raine)]: Raine is somewhat small for a Honchkrow and she is definitely snippy about that fact. Any jab on her size is pretty quickly met with a buffet of her powerful wings and a heavy glare. Still this doesn't stop her on the field and she is always ready to be one of the first out of the ball when given the chance.
[Krookodile (Leonardo)]: Definitely one of the most troublesome Pokémon Isaiah has had to deal with. Leonardo is big, stubborn, and pushy when it comes to getting what he wants. He respects Isaiah, but that's about all that can be expected from him. He is a powerhouse in battle and that can sometimes excuse the behavior but only on the rare occasion he gets brought on.
[Pangoro (Lurch)]: Lurch is one of the older members of the team. He has been with Izzy the longest out of most everyone else and only jumps into fights if he's truly needed. His name comes from a twisted leg, giving him a lurching gait when he walks, but it doesn't stop him fighting. Isaiah would love to have him on his main team, but he worries about the injury and age taking it's toll given the graying around the large panda's muzzle. Now he mostly watches over the benched team.
[Sharpedo (Riva)]: Thankfully Riva mostly sticks to the water because if she was free to be out and about every member of the team would constantly be sporting scrapes from her skin. She's sweet, but also likes to cause trouble, not anywhere near what Leo does, but enough that it can become an irritation during training. The sharp, toothy grins, unsurprisingly, don't help her case much.
[Herdier (Beau)]: Entirely a companion for when Izzy is at home, Beau is one of the sweetest Pokémon on the planet in her trainer's opinion. She is always a joy to come home to and will wiggle herself off her feet with excitement when she gets to go out and participate in training. Of course it's very minor, but she doesn't need to know that.
[Rockruff (Ozzy)]: Ozzy is the newest addition to Isaiah's troupe and it shows. He's young and excitable with a lot to learn, but Isaiah's hope is to raise him into therapy to help the children that come around to his clinic. The Rockruff started off as a bit of a charity case when his trainer surrendered him to the clinic after a debilitating battle injury, but Isaiah got quickly attached to the little rock type.

Didn't expect to have him done this quick but there ya go
Lionpaw's tail waved happily in the air as he returned her grin with a broad one of his own. "I hope mine will go that well." He didn't think Frostwhisker was allowed to talk about what she did during her assessment, but he'd heard that they usually involved hunting. He was terrible at hunting unless it was fishing. He always ended up being too loud or his paws shifted weird in the sand and made him mess up his jump. He hadn't been an apprentice for more than a moon, but he still felt like he should be doing better.
That wasn't what he needed to think about right now though, he was celebrating with his friend. He bumped his brother with his hip as the other tom snarked behind him. "You're just jealous. We'll be in the warriors den soon enough." He hoped anyway. He turned his head back to Frostwhisker, "Well we'll let you get to your warrior duties. I need to go find Cranesong." He turned and bounded away to go find his mentor.
Reedpaw watched the other tom go before sending Frostwhisker a rye grin, "Thanks for leaving me stuck with the boys," her tone was teasing as she flicked the silver tabby in the shoulder with her tail. "I'll see you later." She slipped her way through the dispersing crowd to find Goldensight.
She wasn't sure if Whitestar was fully on board with her idea, but Dawnstar didn't plan on asking for permission again. She figured exchanging warriors between clans would strengthen the ties between them. It would also bring those in FireClan to be loyal to her and vice versa, which would further accelerate their plans. She just had to convince the white tom to replace his deputy with one of his own kin. That would be more of a struggle.
Honestly she hadn't expected the exchange to happen so soon, but Embersky had mentioned Frostwhisker coming ato the medicine den and asking some rather...concerning questions. She started at the back wall of her den under the Tallstones, contemplating whether or not she had made the right decision. She had thought about forcing her to remain Frostpaw, but she had already given Nightwater the go ahead and there was no need to punish the mentor for the actions of the apprentice. No this was the best solution.
She waited until she heard the paw steps of Frostwhisker and turned her face up into a welcoming smile, "Come in Frostwhisker." She turned to face the entrance to her den and curled her tail around her paws. "I know it might come as a surprise, me picking you for this and not one of the experienced warriors, but we think that it would be best to send a new warrior." She knew that the 'we' didn't need to be explained, her and her children had discussed it. "We're starting an exchange program with FireClan, swapping warriors to learn about the other clan and facilitate cooperation between us." Her whiskers twitched, "And you're the lucky first."
It was enough of a strain on Frostbite's body to carry the other hybrid, especially after fighting for as long as they had. Even if it had been fake it still required the same amount of energy. Just less blood loss. He was prepared to use his tail if he had to, should one of the SandWings get too close to them, but he had no idea how much it would throw off his balance in the air. The last thing they needed was for them to go spiraling towards the ground with little to no way to break their fall. Some escape that would be and there would be no chance of another one. He couldn't imagine how much Caracal was going to crack down on the other hybrids since they got away, but he chose not to think about that.
He let out a grunt of affirmative, talking was too much work at this point, and let his trust rest in Vivid for a moment. He didn't do it often, but it was either that or die at this point so he chose to trust her. He just focused on keeping himself steady so that she could aim at the guards that were tailing them.
As the screams started he swiveled his head around and smirked at the chaos. Served them right for treating them like animals. Now they could die in agony like so many of them did. He hoped Boa would be tormented under the claws of the Queen for her failure. He didn't think that Caracal took kindly to any missteps.
He was only slightly phased by the sight of their scales practically melting off their bones, mostly because his frost breath did something similar. It was more of a shriveling on his end, but still looked grizzly. He turned his attention back to where they were going, using the screams and clashing armor behind them as a cue that Vivid was doing her part. "Good," he huffed out in a quick breath since he could already feel his lungs and wings starting to strain from the exertion and lack of use. There was no way he could keep up this pace for much longer so he hoped that the SandWings had given up at the sight of their mutilated comrades.
There wasn't exactly a plan of where to go, all Frostbite knew was that they needed to get away. Far away from the Sand Kingdom and Caracal if they wanted any chance of staying free. He could only vaguely remember the maps that his father had shown him, but if he remembered right then the Ice and Sky Kingdoms would be closest. He didn't want to go home, that seemed like a bad idea, so the Sky Kingdom it would have to be. For now.
What felt like hours but was likely only minutes passed before he could feel the strain becoming too much for him to bear anymore. It felt like the muscles in his wings were going to tear if he dared flap them again. He looked behind them once more, not seeing any pursuing SandWings and instead scanned the barren surface of the desert for anything that might be of use to them. It was flat and barren with the sun reflecting off the grains in blinding rays made it hard to see, but through it he was able to see the faintest glint of water. Some kind of oasis he hoped. Either way it was their best bet. He let them start to coast towards the ground. Once they were close enough he dropped Vivid into the sand and had to take a few running steps onto the hot ground before sinking down, sides heaving with exhaustion.
The oasis was small, but it would have to do as he dragged himself to his feet and stepped carefully to lap at the water. It was slightly grainy, but no worse than the water they were given in the pit. He glanced over towards the other hybrid, "Good aim on the SandWings. Hopefully they won't think we're worth enough to follow."
Lionpaw gave the other two apprentices a broad grin as Frostpaw mentioned being able to talk to both Duskpaw and Amberpaw. He liked the two spunky she-cats, even if Amberpaw could be a bit of a killjoy at times. He went to continue the conversation when he heard the familiar voice of his brother calling out to him and sighed. He loved Scorchpaw, he really did, but the other tom could be a real pompous pain in the tail. That was on a good day.
He just let Frostpaw deal with his brother for the moment, but fought back a huff as his attention turned to them. He and Reedpaw had been out doing battle training all morning and he had seen Frostpaw get back. Still he wanted to respect the fact that Frostpaw needed time to prepare for her warrior assessment the next morning. "Yeah, alright, we'll come." He stood and shook the sand out of his golden pelt before waving his tail for Reedpaw as well.
As the next morning dawned he made sure to be awake when Frostpaw got up so he could wish her good luck before passing back out. He was awoken again by the familiar yowl of Dawnstar from the top of the tumble of stones that the leader's den was under. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Tallstones for a clan meeting!"
Her voice was clear and Lionpaw woke up the other two before scrambling out of the den. He could see Nightwater sitting next to the stones, looking proud, and most of the clan already gathered underneath as the sun reflected off of Dawnstar's calico pelt. His pelt was fluffed with excitement despite the fact that this wasn't even his own warrior ceremony. He knew Frostpaw had been waiting for this for ages and he was happy for his friend. At least he thought they were friends, he hoped they were.
Dawnstar didn't need any preamble. She stepped forward on the stone and looked down to where Nightwater sat. At the black she-cat's nod she turned to look at the clan. "Frostpaw, please step forward." As the silver tabby did Dawnstar looked up towards the sun as it crept higher in the sky, "I, Dawnstar, leader of Breezeclan call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn." She paused as the words rang out, "Frostpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend you clan, even at the cost of your own life?"
A smile crossed her muzzle at the 'I do', "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Frostpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Frostwhisker. StarClan honors your skill and determination and we welcome you as a full warrior of Breezeclan." As the cheers of Frostwhisker's name began Dawnstar jumped down from the stones to rest her muzzle on the other she cat's head. "Join me in my den after your vigil. I have a special assignment for you." Her voice was quiet so only Frostwhisker could hear before she stepped back to join in the cheers.
Lionpaw projected his voice as loud as he could before he bounded over to Frostwhisker, with Reedpaw shortly behind, to bump his head against her shoulder with a bright grin, "Congratulations!"
If this didn't work then either one or both of them were dead. Maybe they would get lucky and get sent back to the chains and live to fight another day, but Frostbite was counting on Queen Caracal not going back on her word despite the obvious bloodlust she held in her black eyes. This was the end of the fight one way or another. Vivid could barely stand at this point from exhaustion and lack of any kind of nutrition and he didn't think his body could stand the heat any more.
As his claw raised into the air he fully planned on bringing it down, just not exactly on Vivid's neck. His head snapped up though as he heard Boa shout and his jaws split into a slightly bloody grin from where his lips had split from the dry heat. This is exactly what he was hoping for. The group of SandWing guards wouldn't be any real match for him. Boa had made the mistake of having them fight tooth and claw which meant he hadn't used his frost breath at all. Not since he fought the SkyWing all that time ago.
He made eye contact with Vivid for a moment before he let her go and in an instant leapt over her prone form to the side where the guards were rushing. He sucked in a deep breath as one of the guards opened their mouth to tell him to stand down. There was a moment of panic on the guards faces but it didn't last long as he exhaled a stream of freezing air and ice onto their bodies, sweeping his head to the side to catch all of them in the blast.
The screams were instant as any of the guards unlucky enough to get caught by the breath felt their scales beginning to shrivel and die. The SandWings in the crowd screamed and roared with a mix of delight and panic at the sudden turn of the tide. Frostbite fully intended to ride on that chaos to get away. With the fog of ice still in the air he flapped his wings, kicking up dust and sand to further obscure them before lifting off and grabbing Vivid underneath her stomach, mindful of where his talons landed on her body.
"Stop them!" The voice was shrill and angry though it was somewhat difficult to tell who it came from. Caracal? Or maybe Boa who was watching her life fly away in front of her eyes.
Frostbite heard the shriek over the sound of roars in the crowd as he gained altitude. His head turned back to see a number of the other guards starting to take flight after them. "You're part RainWing right?" his voice was already strained from the exhaustion, "Can you keep them off us?" He could use his tail, but carrying Vivid meant that he had less maneuverability, but he knew there would be little chance of her keeping up with him if she'd tried to fly on her own, and he did make a deal.
