@Hantu Kongkek
Like a man charging headlong into a blizzard, he would learn the futility of this strategy.

That's a simile, not literal.
<Snipped quote by Hantu Kongkek>

I must color myself confused. In your post you mentioned some sort of cloud, created by Gomory? I'm not following.

Oh, good. I'm not the only one that was confused by that. I thought I had missed something. XD Which is possible, since I'm reading at work and have to speed through everything to stay productive.
@rivaan Far superior to even my best stick figures.

@Lugubrious Who's the new avatar? I'll miss Pacha. ;(
@Sho Minazuki Sir yes sir!

I typically root for the underdog, who tends not to be the GM. Not saying that he'll win though.

While the paramilitary grunts are trained, can it not at least be assumed that a player character is stronger? I think it'd be more motivating should the player be given at least some hint of possibility for victory, which would retain interest. But that's like, my opinion, man.

Yeah, well, your opinion on music sucks. Or at least Akoni thinks so. I love all your choices personally.
Damn, he shouldn't have wasted his time with that music player. He gave up the element of surprise and ended up with his arm minorly inconvenienced by this speckled turd-wall. Akoni inwardly chided himself for falling to the same kind of dumb decisions he was always telling these crickets to avoid. He wasn't as young and powerful as he once was, after all. Well, he could be, but only for a minute or two. Then he'd probably die. One good thing came from this situation though, she seemed to be irritated and bothered by his comment. That was a win in his book.

"Because it makes ya look like a ten cent whore," he answered, pulling on his arm. As he did so, Lammasu made another transformation from within its trapped confines. The blade retracted, opening up some movement space. Then the gauntlet erupted with dozens and dozens of small, spiked studs. With one really really good yank, he freed his arm from captivity.

Akoni took a second to catch his breath. Damn lungs. If only I were just ten years younger, she'd already be done with! Thankfully that fool Snider had bought him the time he needed to get his second wind. Such a brute might as well have been born a demon himself. And his music sucked. "Good music is timeless!" he retorted to the younger-but-still-old man, casting a spell that changed the music track again.

Akoni would have laughed at Snider getting his ass handed to him by Gomory, but he couldn't afford any more distractions. The nephilim jumped into the bout, intent on unleashing a flurry of assault on the demon and pushing her back. Excellent, a perfect opportunity! Akoni would go in for a feint, charging Gomory just behind Wrath ready to release a volley of punches. His real plan was to generate a gate beneath her feet, while he placed the exit past the edge of the central platform in a location where she had destroyed any footholds. He doubted she would fall to her death, but damned if it shouldn't force her into an open position!
Except what is shown in cutscenes doesn't really deviate from what's possible in-game.

Funny. Last time I let some mooks hit me, i saw my life meter drop a considerable amount, but when it happens in cut scenes it's a "walk it off" situation at the very worst. In the opening cut scene for DMC 3, all the scythes Dante takes at once would kill you unless you had multiple health upgrades, but he pretends they're not even there, and even weaponizes them. He's basically got high speed regeneration and isn't bothered by most anything unless he takes a ton of punishment over a long period of time.

Seriously, there is a definite segregation of story narrative and gameplay mechanics.
Go along? Please, that was my plan all along! Mwahahaha!

Edit: Cranky old man fight!
As soon as Akoni had made his demands, Gomory spoke to him with the attitude of a true demon, threatening to kill him if he approached. That didn't surprise him in the least, but she called him a liar. Really? So he wasn't here to protect the seal and prevent the total war of three realms? That was news to him. Dumb bitch.

One of the others that had been trying to hide in the Cairn made his presence known. He made a nice little speech about not trying to kill each other, and while Akoni certainly agreed with him, he also found the words to be naive. Still, this creature was interesting. The life readings Akoni detected were both demonic and angelic. Nephilim, then. Akoni had never met one in person, but had studied them a great deal.

The cyborg had tanked a pretty nasty hit from Gomory, something that would have undoubtedly outright killed Akoni, but then found himself trapped in a cage of... What was that she was using, exactly? It was pretty damn rare that Akoni didn't know about something. Her abilities would have to be researched once this was all said and done. Thankfully another young one, Nero who Akoni recognized by sight alone, was able to sneak up on Gomory. If the stories of this kid were true, the rest of them might not even have to do anything but sit back and watch a big glowing demon hand crush her. That would suit Akoni just fine. Then he could go back to The Ninth Circle, get a cold scotch, and forget about the world again.

Only that wasn't what happened. What did happen was he showed up. Bullets flew through the air and a particularly boisterous and annoying man, more of a walking hill really, stole his insult. "Roughneck" (Akoni always thought it was a stupid alias, but Hell it was better than the jerk's real name) decided that he wanted to pick a fight no matter the circumstances and turned on his boombox. Fine. Then one of the Order decided that fighting amongst ourselves was the smart thing to do. Oh for the love of! Akoni counted it a blessing that Gomory slashed up Snider's (haha, Snider) boombox. She then proceeded to unleash several attacks on just about everybody except for him.

Well that was one benefit to having all these crickets around, chirping up the place. They made so much damn noise that Gomory had stopped paying attention to the old shark. It was clear that violence was the only way anything was getting accomplished today. So be it. Akoni took a step backward from the floating platform he stood upon, falling downward and out of sight. At that moment he opened a gate beneath him, and created its exit on the central pillar, right behind the demon woman.

Before emerging, Akoni felt a bit whimsical, so he cast a repair spell to fix up Snider's boombox, but that wasn't all. An additional bit of magic changed the music to something a little more to his liking. Just in time for something... Interesting. Gomory changed, her entire body altered as she unleashed a mighty wave, then flashed back to her normal form. The kind of power she possessed, it was truly respectable. The power of the devil trigger.

"I prefer that form," the old man called out as he threw a punch at her from behind, Lammasu morphing into a bladed gauntlet. "Least you don't have your breasts hanging out in the open!"
Lady is an ass kicker of the highest caliber... For a perfectly normal human being. You have to remember the differences in gameplay and in story. Don't get me wrong, I think she'd wipe the floor with just about any real life person, but she just isn't in the same league as the sons of Sparda even on their worst days.
