It's actually stated by the creators themselves, that all children born after the great war are named after a colour. JNPR characters are actually named after things associated with colour. And that's how it works in RWBY. Please read about it.'

- Nora's name may reference her color via the Nora Barlow Columbine, a pink flower named after the granddaughter of Charles Darwin
- "Pyrrha" is derived from the Greek adjective pyrrhos (πυρρός), which means "flame-colored"

Although it's not really any help for your semblance and more just nitpicking.. Faunus don't really display any special characteristics associated with their animal side (as far as we know), but they all have night vision. They more or less just display slight mannerisms that are associated to their animal.

So saying that Leaf has 'this and that' because of his animal heritage might not be a very canon thing..

Layla stands at around 5'7" and has an athletic body-type. Her 'assets' are quite modest, her cup size being a comfortable C.

Personality:

Layla can be quite down-to-earth, but also quite absentminded at times. She tends to say what she's thinking, even if it causes conflict between people. She's quite an easy-going person. However, this doesn't mean that she neglects her studies. Due to the promise she made with her parents, she refuses to fail. This fear of failure has extended passed academic level, which makes her a very stubborn person at times. Although it's very hypocritical of her, she also thinks that failure is necessary for growth. Of course it becomes a case of "Practice what you preach."

History:

Layla was born into a family of engineers in Atlas. Her family had been researching and creating some of Atlas' finer machinery and weaponry. From a young age, she was trained to be an engineer like the rest of her family. However, her dreams differed from her parent's. She wanted to be a Huntress. Her parents agreed to her wishes, under one condition.. That she create a weapon that was capable of handling the family semblance without being destroyed or damaged in any way.

After years of trial and error, Layla had finally succeeded in creating the weapon that she carries with her to this day. After creating her tool, her parents sent her to Beacon academy instead of Atlas, saying that she would only become a soldier in Atlas rather than the Huntress that she wanted to become. Her parents gave her another condition. If she was to fail her dream, she must return as an engineer and never look back.

Description:
Lode is a dust powered blunderbuss that fires out a close-ranged blast of dust energy. This blast's element/effect depends on what dust has been loaded. The blunderbuss is also used as a melee weapon, as it's overall weight and it's nigh-indestructible nature makes it a very good blunt weapon.

Description:
Font is a dust powered pistol that resembles a flintlock. By loading a single dust crystal, it can fire up to 6 shots. Unlike it's larger counterpart (Lode), it can fire more effectively over distance as it shoots out small 'bullets' rather than a blast cone. The bullet's element/effect depends on what dust has been loaded.

Description:
Ai is a small, dust powered, scout drone that can fit in the palm of your hand. It tends to float around Layla's shoulder unless commanded otherwise. It doesn't do anything other than inform Layla of incoming Grimm.

Overlode
Layla can use her semblance to increase the maximum potential of herself or her weapons for a very short period of time. For example, Layla can overload herself to increase her speed, strength or even her aura. However, this semblance causes large amounts of fatigue and can even cause her to faint if she didn't have enough stamina when activating the semblance. Layla tends to use 'Overlode' on her blunderbuss as using it on her body will deteriorate it.

Strengths:

Layla is very strong against small to large groups of enemies. Especially ones that group together (Like Grimm). She's very physically strong and her instincts are quite keen. Overall, she's a very tank-y person.

Weaknesses:

Despite her physical attributes, Layla isn't exactly the fastest person. Thus she finds it hard to deal with high mobility targets. Her 'Overlode' Semblance, although very powerful, can make her a very vulnerable target after being used.

Relationships:

- Lloyd 'Midas' Gold
Layla has been friends with Lloyd since they were children, having met via their parent's collaborations due to work related projects.

Other:

- Likes to tinker with her weapons and drone in and out of class (This tends to get her into trouble most of the time)
- She's quite good at singing
- Perhaps due to her Snake Faunus heritage, she really hates Nevermores
