The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Myrina had apparently had enough of talking, so Blade excused himself with his drink and moved away from the bar, circulating amongst the rest of the now-expanded squadron. Everyone seemed to have grouped into small huddles for discussions and chat, and were engaging well with one another. Feeling a bit like a third wheel, the fox drifted on the edges of the conversation, catching snippets of other peoples' discussions and feeling quietly glad that everyone was managing to get along with each other well, and seemed to be gelling into a group.
Except him.
Forcing himself to remain smiling, the fox finished the last of his drink and stepped out.
Taking himself on a walk, the fox went up a couple of decks and aft. Stepping to one of the outer hatches, he unsealed it and stepped onto the outer deck. A warm night breeze buffeted the fox as he stepped outside, and the scents of the night-time badlands assaulted his nose. Nearby one of the security team turned to regard him, saw the insignia - and the fact he was very distinctive - and then nodded to him and carried on with his patrol.
Digging a lighter out of one of his combats' pockets, he lit the cigar he'd been coveting inside and leant on the railing around the land-ships' upper decks, and watched the land roll by.
Well, when I make a post regarding the relocation, there may well be some info in that could help!

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm sure it will work, I was just expressing my reservations. And I'm more than aware that a lot of people like the 'cons more than the 'bots too. Though, your comment about 'range' is a little flat, as there's a heck of a lot more characters than those in the cartoon to draw upon - and in continuities other than the original cartoon, both Prime and Megatron got a whole lot more character development, depth, and dimensions than 'truck and gun'. Which is why I mentioned the comics (again), as they're a much better source of characterisation than the old cartoons were, and indeed do have a lot of the grittiness and darkness that you're mentioning -
For example, take Empurata as an example.

I would seriously suggest giving the TF Wiki a look over. There's buttloads of cool stuff you're likely not aware of on there, especially if you're only going by the original cartoon.

Also, I imagine the characters will change and evolve in personality and such if the RP goes on for any length of time, as that's what happens.
Post up, woo!

I'll get another one up shortly too, after a short space for replies. We'll be relocating to the carrier, and then toward our next mission after a short period of downtime where our characters can actually get to know one another.
The TU-95, already stricken and falling, was virtually atomised by the explosion of it's payload. The massive fireball and concussion blasted out windows for a mile around, set off car alarms and burglar alarms and smashed the few remaining leaves off of trees. Not to mention knocking over many person standing outside, and resulting in more than a few ruptured eardrums.
The falling wreckage scattered over the base, setting alight to vehicles and structures, and causing large-scale minor damage - but it was far less than if the bomber had delivered its' payload on target, and much less than if the cruise missiles had hit and done their job. The runways and other major facilities remained undamaged, and the base remained operational.

There was a moment of stillness as the situation sunk in, and then the radio crackled to life with a message from the AWACS.
"All bandits are down, or no factor. Great job, Excalibur squadron. Orders are coming in, please take up a hold pattern over Lossiemouth in the meantime".
"Roger, Overwatch," replied Ariella. "Excalibur, form up on me. We'll move twenty klicks south to take up a holding orbit".

The Kfir lead the way past Lossiemouth, and over the green rolling hills of Scotland below. Given a moments' respite at last, the Israeli pilot undid her oxygen mask, allowing it to hang at one side of her face, and slid her visor up, wiping sweat from her eyes with one glove. The dry, cold oxygen of the mask had left her mouth parched and given her the tang of rubber on her tongue. A sip of water would've been welcome. Craning her neck, she looked at the aircraft slowly forming up around her.
All of them had done amazingly well, given the situation. Taking off and diving straight into battle, without so much as a ground class together, let alone a training mission. All the same, they had meshed well enough, given the circumstances.
Holding the mask up to her mouth, she spoke over the squadron frequency.
"Okay, everyone. We did well out there. The base took some damage, but we all came back in one piece, and the base is still operational too. That counts as a victory on my side, and the UNWO are going to be smarting from it. Pretty good for a first step".
Indulgently, she did a lazy aileron roll in place for celebration, and then stayed on course, banking at the far end of the '8' in the air that formed the holding pattern.
Good to see this has got as far as having an OOC go up. I'll admit to being slightly dubious about having players being both factions, as I could see it resulting in squabbling and accusations of power gaming etc. once we actually get into a fight, but I'll remain open minded.

I'll look forward to a CS skeleton going up and being able to plan my character.

I hope we go down less of the cheesy and simplistic cartoon route, and get more of the depth/personality/etc from the comic books. Though I'd imagine we'll kind of have to if we're roleplaying!
I'm potentially interested in this, as long as it has almost nothing to do with the terrible Michael Bay movies, and much more to do with the Generation 1-style universe.
Would it be acceptable to bring in some ideas from the IDW transformers ongoing comics - there's a lot of characterization and background of the war, and of the Autobots and Decepticons in there that could make for some great depth and interest.

I'd be interested in playing an Autobot who transforms into some kind of military vehicle, most likely.
I think quitting is a bit dramatic, especially since you're so interested in getting into the RP.

Just ignore the earlier post; it's hardly the first time that something RL has affected an RP. It's kind of the nature of the thing.
If I'd had to explain every time someone had dropped out or disappeared mid-mission (or even mid-scene...!) in Thunderbolt Black, the RP I run by e-mail elsewhere, the game would've exploded through being clunky by now.

Instead, it's far easier just to narratively roll with it and just gloss over it and move on. It's just how things need to be done to keep things moving sometimes, even if it doesn't make as much sense.

Your character can always easily join in when we arrive aboard the carrier instead, as that would make more sense for a fresh start, than dithering and trying to find a weak explanation for why they disappeared halfway through a battle. Better to have them turn up with a stronger entrance later on instead.

Alternatively PM me if you'd like to discuss a better entrance or idea for your character.
I'm extremely reluctant to lose you, as your original RP was why I started this one in the first place, and I'd much rather keep you aboard than have you drop out for what what seems like a silly reason, considering you WANT TO PLAY.

And yeah, Sauron - I actually forgot that you were traveling around and about at the moment - Mateotis reminded me!
I hope you enjoy your visit to the UK!
Well, he's exempt then. But I'll see who else crops up or not.
Another one up. Not my best, but still sort of finding my mojo!
