The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

I think for me, I don't feel as invested in the setting as much as I would if it had been something I'd created myself. Plus, it feels a bit unstructured and lacking something, though I'm not sure what. I'm just not as excited about it as I want to be, and it feels like a bit of a chore trying to keep things moving, as opposed to feeling enthusiastic about things such as my writing and other stuff I do as hobbies.

I was quite excited when I initially constructed the OOC, but now it's actually running, I feel a bit 'bleh' about it by comparison to other stuff I've done. I like the mecha, and I like that we have human characters alongside anthro ones, and that there's conventional (i.e. modern day) gear and equipment alongside the mecha. I also like the fact that there's some space-related content as well. But overall, I'm not so enthused by the general aspects of the setting so much. I don't know if it's because I'm 'playing with someone else's toys', or as you say, I haven't really constructed the plot as much.
A bit of discussion and input would certainly help a lot, and I'd like to see what other people think. I have other ideas I'm floating about that I could always use instead, but I'll see what other people feel about the game as it is.
Don't worry about it. I'm kind of feeling my interest slipping, if I'm honest. Not through lack of activity, but more just because I don't feel that invested in the game as a whole at the moment. I feel a bit detached and disinterested in it, really.
That's okay, it's not exactly galloping along, so you'll have plenty of time
Hey, Aristo - I hate to be the party pooper, but didn't you say that the number of weapons (not including anti-infantry guns) was a max of three? Because I'm counting more than that on a few of the submitted mecha.
New post is up, defend the ship!
Irry twisted and turned in the middle of the melee, shifting between modes with blurring ease and precision as the situation dictated. One moment her arrowhead-shaped Alpha would be a fighter, the next it was a muscular battloid, hosing down Scouts or Troopers from close range with it's cannon, the next a Guardian, braking and twisting on the spot.
With a moment's pause for breath, she saw the humans tangling with the Invid. The pair she'd met in the hangar bay were more than holding their own, but she expected no less. The one in the colourful fighter was especially flashy, but her style had results, so she couldn't argue with that. Besides, it was hard not to look flashy in a variable fighter.
"much appreciated, the damn bugger keeps zipping around to fast to hit, i'll owe you one"

"Bring them this way, team - we'll round up and form a wedge through, split the pack and form a defensive line toward the ships, over".
She boosted in the direction of the others, and was gratified to see the male human's fighter closing on her flank. As they reached the others, the pair shifted over to battloid mode with the typical swift movements of Variable fighters. An Enforcer was leading a wedge of it's own through the melee, sneaking under and through the chaos, and making right for the deck of the Sentinel, a flock of Armoured Shock Troopers following.
"Commander Jacquo, Commander Strucker - those Invid are making for the deck, intercept them!" Lisa's voice was urgent, and the Sentinel and human alike grimaced as the Invid slid past and dived for the ships deck on plumes of blue fire. Around them, scouts were criss-crossing and diving toward the deck, pursued by fighters or hosed by defence turrets and Destroids.
Gabe toggled his comm switches and spoke to the unit. "We've got leakers, heading for the deck. They're tough ones, and they look pretty skilled too. We better-"
"Less chat, more action!" snapped Irry, in her unfamiliar accent, blasting the Alpha for the Sentinels' deck. "Move in, and engage at your own discretion!"
I'll be getting something up shortly
Well, the Helldiver is only the inspiration for my mecha and an idea of what it looks like. It's got no connection otherwise, so you're all good.
Great, thanks!

Jinry was sat on one of the threadbare armchairs in the common room. The 'roo had a chocolate bar in one hand, which she was diligently and eagerly polishing off as she listened to the Sergeant speak. Her long ears twitched as she took in the words, glancing around at her fellow pilots. The sortie sounded straightforward enough, but she had enough experience to know that that was no guarantee that it would be straightforward, of course.
At the dismissal, she scoffed down the last few morsels of the bar, and hopped to her feet, Sarge had said to pack, and pack she would. She wasn't anticipating needing to pack a huge bunch of stuff, this wasn't likely to be a residential billet, it was a tactical operation. All the same, he hadn't said how long things would take, so she loaded up a backpack with the essentials she'd need to survive a few days in the field.

Slinging the bag over one shoulder. She tapped a toe in thought. She'd spent the better part of an hour on readying her gear, and there was time enough to spend getting ready. With a sigh, she realized that this was probably the last chance she'd have for a decent (or at least, almost decent) cooked meal, and a warm shower. Not to mention a sensible bed, she thought with a loving glance at her own bed.

A short while later, she arranged the cutlery on her plate and gave a slight sigh of remorse as she looked down at the empty tray. She'd chosen the best that was on offer, and had been pleased to see the mess had been serving out the toffee-cream pie that was a favourite. Now though, there wasn't any further time to spend on getting ready beyond the bare essentials.
She reported to the quartermaster to gather her personal issue gear; her normal operational vest and its' pouch contents, and signed out her sidearm. After that, she was ready as she'd be.
She strapped into her vest, and stowed the pistol in its' holster, before shrugging the heavily laden backpack onto her shoulder, and heading for the area where the walkers were stored and maintained. The place was a busy hive of activity as the maintenance crew readied the machines for roll out onto the train and onward. She exchanged waves and good-natured jibes with the crews as she passed, before climbing up the access ladder to her Walkers' cockpit. Throwing the bag inside, she whistled over to where she could see Feryana atop her walkers' hull.
"Yo, Feryana! Ready to go?"
