The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

If you're more interested in the Modern Military/Sci-fi thing, or want in on that, I have an int check up for something like that too - http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/9658/posts/ooc

I'll close this thread down now, if you're interested in either of the others, then I'll see you there.
Sure, go ahead. Though I think I'll merge this with the Metal Gear-ish one I want to run so I don't have too much on my plate, and they're fairly similar anyway. Not to mention my anthro fix will probably end up being served by GEARs if that gets off the ground.
I'm re-starting my GEARs RP. New forum, new chance to get it running.

The game-world is reminiscent of anime such as Patlabor, the Gundam Universal Century timeline, Armoured Trooper VOTOMs and - most notably, with the name and the world it's set on - Heavy Gear.
The mecha are fairly small and low-tech by comparison to many others, and work alongside armoured vehicles and other such equipment, and are not 'kings of the battlefield', but one mass-produced part of the military engine. As such, your GEAR would be one of many like it, rather than a super-ultra-unique machine. It will get damaged, and maybe destroyed in the course of play.

The world itself is well-defined, with different cultures and political powers, all struggling to make sense of their own history and origins, after the shocking realization that they have no real evidence of their own past or origins, and the implications of being a 'created' race of people, and what that means. Not to mention, finding out what happened to their creators as well.

The main driving plot is that on the world of Arvara, a race of multiple species of anthropomorphic people exists. They have been created by artificial means, and were left in the guidance of The Net, a vast computer network, to answer as many of their questions as it could. One day, they come to many realizations, and from their, form allegiances and nations. GEARs is set some time down the line from this, where these groups have settled into a state of belligerant Cold War, and plans are rumbling afoot.
The PC's will be involved in a small squadon of GEAR - mecha - Pilots, and unravel some plans and plots that may lead to defining a future, as well as a past, for the entire Arvaran race, and lead them all over their planet, and maybe beyond.

Previously, I have had far too many players, and this game has ground to a halt as people have dropped out through lack of posting or interest. So, I am looking for a MAXIMUM of five to six RELIABLE players who show a strong interest in the game, and won't lag in posting. I want to keep it moving, and keep it interesting. I want people who are motivated and interested, not 'Sure, I guess I'm kind of interested maybe'.

The level will be 'high casual', so I'd expect at least a paragraph of post that makes sense. There's also a fair bit of background to pay attention to, and the mecha designs are fairly narrow-scope too; it's not armoured core or battletech, but somewhere in the middle.
Sure, you're more than welcome to join in, and having played with both of you before I'm happy for you to be onboard.
Don't worry, it won't be rushed - I'll be scrabbling for time to get it up, but I won't be trying to cram it in. I'll try not to keep everyone waiting too long though.
I'd agree with Incubus that it doesn't really gel with the visual aesthetic of the other frames, it looks a lot more fluid and organic. But it's up to Aristo at the end, of course.
Well, I'll post an int check for GEARS, and close this down. If people are interested, then it'll run.
Okay, good. I might keep the numbers small for this. I'll get my thinking cap on, and try to get the OOC up in the next couple of days, real life allowing.
Okay, good - that's plenty of people. I'll get thinking on details, and get an OOC up tomorrow.
Well, I have other news also - digging around on my PC, I have found a copy of the GEARS background. So, there's also that option to consider, with putting this idea to one side, or adapting elements of it into another game another time.
