The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

GEARs is now open for new players!

GEARs is the story of the Arvaran people.
A human-like race of many species of Anthropomorphic animals, they exist on the planet Arvara, a world with a hi-tech, scientific and rational culture.
Their history as recorded only stretches back the last two hundred and fifty years, when they almost gained an almost overnight awareness of their history, but they were aware their culture and society was fully formed around them, complete with machinery and the apparatus of government, and even social support.
This lead to further questions and chaos, as the questions around their own origins lead to the formation of various different groups overnight, as new ideas took root about how their society should be lead and governed, as well as many varying ideas of their species' origins came to the fore.

These varying ideas and concepts lead to the formation of nations and power blocs, with the two largest - The Oppressive Varellis Empire in the North, and the Isolationist high-technology Southern Alliance. Sandwiched in between are the independent nations, trying to carve out their own existence from the world around them, and to survive as the world around them teeters ever closer to the brink of warfare.

Amidst these political and social questions stand the technological warriors of the Arvaran militaries, and in particular of the Landren Defence Force, the largest of the Independent Nations.
Strapped into their hi-tech bipedal combat machines, known as GEARs, they are the front-line of defence and discovery, and will be at the heart of the oncoming storm, when it inevitably breaks over the surface of Arvara, and sweeps everything along in it's path.
It will be the GEAR pilots of the Roughriders, the 101st Tactical GEAR Unit of the LDF Landcruiser Parvan's Claw who will have a hand in deciding the ultimate fate of the Arvaran people, and instrumental in discovering their origins and the fate of their creators.
Their story will become an epic, and they will be regarded as heroes of their people - who stood against amazing odds, and terrible enemies, and rose from near obscurity.

You are the 101st, and this is your story...

Background
Please follow the links below to read the full background for GEARs. Your character will not be accepted if it is not accurate to the information contained in these docs. I'll know.

Even if you are not playing a GEAR pilot (for some reason...) then it is important to read these docs, including the GEAR-tech one, as they all provide background info important to the setting!!!!!

Info on Arvara, it's culture, nations and Arvaran Biology and Psychology.
Information on the Technology of the Arvaran People
Information on the GEAR, the defining piece of Arvaran technology and equipment.

Okay, good. It might be a little while til the OOC is up, but I've not lost interest.
I'll say yes to both of you, as I expect some people to drop out as there's always a lot of interest at the start, and then it drops off after things start. Probably better to have too many people to begin with, so we end up with a good size group going forwards.
I only had it on Drive as a temporary holding measure - I was surprised to find it there at all, and it's only because it's on there that it's even survived at all. I thought I'd lost all the background for good when the old site was nuked.

I'll probably find a way to host it off-site somewhere, and then link to it in the first post of the OOC, with the character sheet and mecha sheet being the only content in the first post.

Kyelin, yes it is open and you may join. OOC will be up hopefully soon.
Update.

I spent all evening neatening up the OOC info I had saved on Google docs, and was ready to paste it into the OOC.
Unfortunately, due to whatever mysterious alchemy drives the forum software, it won't let you edit pasted text to any large degree - for example, adding necessary hider tags or formatting tags - and there's a character limit that cuts off the information.

So, I'm either going to have to copy-type it all over - which, frankly, fuck that, I haven't got the time or patience - or supply it via linked document, which makes far more sense.
However, I've run out of time completely to do that this evening, having used all my time making it look nice, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I am quite annoyed.
Great, looks like a good amount of people. I should be able to get the OOC up this evening, since it's mostly a case of copy and paste.
Cool. I'll get my thinking cap on when I'm back from work.
Yeah, no problem at all.

I would be interested. Just need some structure as to where we would be going with it.

There'll be detailed info on the plot and setting in the OOC, this is just to gauge interest in the concept. As I said, it'll take me a little while to put the OOC up, due to RL time constraints. But, since you've said you're interested, take a look when the OOC goes up and see what you think.

Please let there be Ray, please let there be Rex... At least ZEKE!

There will most likely be similar things around, but they may not be the main threat, as I don't want to copy things directly, or use the same storylines and ideas.
Sure, no problem!
