The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Well, the site's been down most of the day as you all know, and I've been home from work with general feeling terrible and unfit to go in, so I put a lot of work into the OOC info. I'm typing it up in Google Drive before I post it, so I can review it and such. I'm getting to the point of working on the character sheet, so that will probably be my main thing tomorrow evening, before I hopefully post it up then, along with finding suitable images for various things.

I have a pretty good angle on the plot, so that ought to help things get off to a start, I just hope that people are interested in it, and don't founder at the first hurdle.
Complete coincidence on my part, but an amusing one all the same. I think I've heard of MechQuest in passing (I'm sure it used to be a banner ad on a site I used to go on a fair bit a while back, actually), but I nicked the name from the mecha in Heavy Gear, and repurposed it for my own needs. All the same, MechQuest sounds pretty fun. I hope you enjoy this game too.
If it's a reference to Mechaquest, then it's an unintentional one. As friend Rafale says, GEARs was the RP I ran before the Forum imploded. It was loosely based on a blending of elements from the tactical tabletop RPG Heavy Gear, and the comic series and RPG Albedo, as well as elements of various mecha anime. You're certainly welcome to join in, of course!

I'm currently writing up a background, along with other useful info, I won't get it up tonight, but probably tomorrow evening (GMT) though no guarantees!
Well, I'm using some of Robotech's novel canon to explain it in quite a (I hope) clever way, that sort of links into some of the established Canon, while making it different enough that meta-gaming - not that any of you would do that - shouldn't be an issue either.
I'll also be spicing things up by throwing in and adapting bits of Macross Canon too, and shifting things about a bit in the timeline as well, so some things will appear earlier or later, just so it fits what I want it too.
It kind of seems a bit redundant to restrict mecha to their canon pilots if you're not really getting their canon involved in the plot. Eh, I think I'm going to reconsider and withdraw too. It was a passing idea, and really I'm feeling my interest wane even after only a few posts. I was more interested in the mech than it's pilot anyway.
Great, glad you're back, and like the new name too :)
That makes enough for the bare minimum, and gives me enough impetus to start writing up the OOC!
I think I'll write it up in a Google Docs document first, so I won't lose it if anything untoward happens...!
Great, thank you for the welcome. My next question then, is that I have an idea for a mecha that I'd like to use - It's from the Gundam franchise, but it was only ever a prototype, and was never mass-produced. Also, since we don't seem to be using Canon, that isn't an issue anyway, am I correct? The machine in question is the S-Gundam, which I've long wanted to have a shot at using in something.
Re: The singing, the main thing I'm thinking is it's kind of a bridge between the two cultures of the Anthro people and the Human people, in a kind of nice way. A common bond of a sort, and something they both share, since there's going to be some hints that they have some kind of common history and origin somewhere along the line, and that mentally and emotionally, they have a lot of similarities as well. So, it sort of ends up building a bridge between them. It's certainly not going to be a SECRET WEAPON AGAINST THE ALIENS, and it's definitely, absolutely and utterly not going to be LISTEN TO MY SONG, since the main character in Macross 7 is one of the most irritating characters in fiction I've ever come across.
Hey, do you still have any room to accept new players, as this sounds kind of interesting to me, and I'd at least like to give it a try.
I have some doubts that I may hold up the posting order, but I'd have to see how it goes, if I'm honest.
While that title above does sound like a terrible blender of ideas, I have substantial experience in running such ideas.

I really want to run a mecha-based RP with transforming fighter-mecha, and with anthro and human characters working alongside one another.

While I mention Macross and Robotech in the title, I mainly want to take some of the mecha designs from those 'verses, as well as the general 'feel' of the tech, and I'm looking more toward the novels/comics expanded RT universe, with a more-than-healthy amount of other sci-fi influence and ideas rolled in from other interests and 'verses I like.
There will be familiar plot ideas, but it won't be exactly the same as anything, as I'm wanting to create an original plot and story of my own.

It will be futuristic, but not ultra-far future or anything; one of the ideas I want to borrow is the concept of Macross/Robotech in that a vast amount of change happens in a short period of time, so that popular culture, technology, fashions and so on, are still recognizable. Or, as another example, like the Stargate 'verse, where current trends, events and weaponry go hand-in-hand with starships and alien races.

The anthro characters (I'm loathe to use the word 'furry', as it carries a lot of negative connotations for people) would be an alien race that has tangential relations to humanity, being partly genetically engineered by an unknown race, who may be part of the driving plot.
The main course of the plot will be a journey for the human crew and the anthro crew, who have to work together with limited supplies, resources and help a long way from home, and being pursued by a hostile enemy, with both of their home worlds in potential danger, giving the plot some natural momentum to keep going, and a natural source of conflict and character interaction... hopefully, anyway.

I'm deliberately going to be cribbing mecha and other designs from other places for the purpose of making things easier, and so people have some frame of easy reference. It won't all be fighting, but there won't be no fighting. And if you're someone who thinks Macross has 'too much singing and not enough mecha', then you'll be pleased to know that singing will play a minimum part of things (but won't be completely absent either).

Anyone who played GEARs, my previous game before the Forumpocalypse, will know that I like writing up pretty detailed world backgrounds and vivid environments, and that I do tend to at least try and make things exciting and interesting for my players, so expect more of the same of that from this game too.

I'm looking for a minimum of probably 4-5 people, and probably no more than 8 reliable people. It won't be fast moving, as I have a fairly intensive job, and most evenings I need some time to regain my energy, as well as being relatively busy weekends too. However, I will keep things moving consistently.

If you're interested in some character development, as well as a plot that builds up toward some excellent action and epic space-based set-pieces and fleet-wide battles, or daring raids against enemy ships and bases, with some banter and good humour amongst the deadly combat, then I'd hope you'll consider my game.
