The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

No rush, man.

FYI, to give you all plenty of warning, the training exercise probably won't launch until Sunday, as I'm going to be away from home from Thursday to Sunday PM (GMT), and I don't want to start, and then be unable to post.
I'll keep the responses to the briefing questions and any small-talk going, and I'll move us to the hangar if everyone is ready to move, but I don't want the (hopefully) faster pace to begin without me being able to reply.
We seem to get a lot quieter on weekends anyway, so it shouldn't make a huge difference, but I thought it was polite to let you all know :)
Yes, that's exactly the one, thanks. And I had a feeling it wasn't called something straight forward, as you mentioned. Thanks for finding it though :)
I like the one from Ace Combat 4, personally - it sounds kind of punchy, a bit 'formal', but gets the blood up a bit for a 'yeah, let's do this!'
Of course, I'm interested to see what everyone else says.
Well, it looks like this isn't going anywhere.
Got a post up too. Not much of one, but glad to put something in.
Scott circled overhead as he watched Miku land, the damaged Corsair approaching steadily and at a pace that dragged every moment into one of shifting his weight nervously on his ejector seat, and feeling droplets of sweat trickling down his spine under his flight suit. Consciously, he willed the stubby little plane to land safely, and found himself muttering quietly at every twitch of wings or rudder.
When the tires finally kissed the hard surface of the runway, he let out a whoosh of breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding, and came around into the landing pattern.
Three green and locked, and he made a perfectly conventional approach, landing with not a problem at all, in distance enough to make the first turnoff. Fast-taxiing to the parking area, the blue-grey patten Corsair rolled into position beside Kate's plane, and as soon as the ladder extended and locked and the canopy motored open, he scrambled out and down, jogging over to the side of the pair.
"She's right," he added as he overheard Kate's words. "None of us were expectin' that, and you made a damn good landing with damage. Believe me, I fly one of these guppy-mouthed stubborn pigs, so I know how hard that damn landing is. That was excellent flying".
"Good question," Blade replied as Adrian spoke up. "You're right that we're operating with quite a big group here, so I'd recommend we split inta teams 'fore we launch. It'll make our tactical movements a lot less awkward, and as y'all say, make it easier for overwatch and cover fire in smaller groups. Plus we'll be better able ta take advantage of cover as we move."
I'm also pleased and amazed to find someone else who's read it too! Jealous of your signed copies :D
I've exchanged words with Joe on e-mail a couple of times, he's a nice guy!

Earth, 2002
After eleven years of war, the First World has collapsed.

A brief civil war has left the United States divided, ragged and without hope.

The Soviet Union is controlled by former Russian Mafia and Military Commanders, now kings.

Europe, Japan and Israel are now radioactive wastelands.

Throughout the world, self-appointed lords and tyrants take what they want with force and brutality...
Twilight X was/is a comic book drawn by Joe Wight, and published by Antarctic Press. It's a military-oriented action/adventure series, set in the remains of Earth following a Third World War between the Soviet Union and the rest of the Western World. Some nuclear exchange occurred, but there was also a massive conventional war.
In the ruins of the world, governments still survive, as do many military forces, but the chains of command are broken and scattered across the world.

Among this, there are hi-tech sci-fi elements, such as orbital weapons and secret societies to contend with, among the gangs and criminal organizations who have risen to power.

The comic book follows events in the Caribbean, whereas I would like to run a game in another part of the world, but set in the same universe.
The plot would follow a group of people from a variety of military backgrounds - since it's a military oriented game - who come together both to survive, and after stumbling across some form of organization or group committing various atrocities and with their own plans for taking control of what's left of the world.
As such, they'd have to be fairly dedicated and moral people. Because, quite frankly, I'm really, really bored of 'morally dubious' characters, and would like to play with a group of people who are actually decent, morally upright and 'good' people. They don't have to be nice, though, and Good Is Not Dumb, or Soft either. And they can still have flaws, too. In fact, all the better if they do.

Anyway, the opponents would likely be some kind of ideological army, with some kind of far-right wing ideological motivation, and access to a wide array of weaponry, captured from armies, navies, etc. in the region, or bought with riches gathered from ruined cities and elsewhere. The goal of the players would be both to stop them, and also to survive and make contact with the remnants of the legitimate governments to collaborate with them on their counter-attacks and assist in rebuilding some form of civilization.

Behind all of this, there may be some other elements, such as organizations with access to high technologies and superior goals of their own, who have some involvement with the third world war in the first place, and may have their agents elsewhere, pulling the strings.

There will be a considerable amount of military-oriented action as well, primarily based toward infantry-related action, but some other stuff too. A good knowledge of hardware and tactics would be welcome, but not essential as long as you're willing to learn.

Character sheets and such will go up if this goes to OOC, as will a more defined plot and background. At the moment, this is just to get interest. And it'll be high-casual too.
Yeah, I was thinking laser-simulation type ammunition as well, as it's easier than anything else.
As for the rockets, I'd say they'd probably be relatively effective against structures, especially roughly made ones, or light ones, and if they're designed for use against fortifications, I would say they'd probably pack the right kind of punch to demolish them fairly effectively with a few hits in the right places.
