It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

With no further questions forthcoming, Blade excused himself and headed for the hangar. He had no need to change his own armaments, his Harlock's regular weapons fit was more than enough for the tasks at hand, being a mix of anti-armour and mid-range firepower.
Making his way down the stairs and ladders of the Landcruisers' interior, he stepped out into the hangar. The smell of metal, oils and other industrial chemicals was overpowering as always, and he wrinkled his nose at it as he swiftly crossed the metal floor to the GEAR stalls. The maintenance crews were securing the last of their tools, and making the changes to the squad's loadouts as requested, and he exchanged a few quick words with the crew chief, before climbing up the external handholds on his GEAR and swinging himself into the cockpit.
Like most GEARs, the cockpit was snug with little free space. He didn't strap in just yet, as there was still time enough before the mission start. Instead, he powered on the internal electrical systems and ran through the GEARs pre-launch checklist. Since it'd been a few days since he'd last been aboard the machine, it was a worthwhile task to check everything. Of course, given the attention the tech crew paid to things, he didn't expect any problems and was relieved, after the ten minutes he spent working through the list, to find nothing out of order, and several minor issues also taken care of.
Leaning back in the pilots' seat, the vulpine took a few gulps of water from a bottle, and wolfed down a couple of chocolate bars. Tossing the empty bottle down to the crew, he checked his watch and nodded. The others ought to be there shortly, so now was as good a time as any. Buckling his helmet on, he fastened his seat straps with the help of a crewman and then motored the cockpit hatch closed. Initiating the full power-on sequence, he tapped the holographic controls and disconnected the Harlock from external power. Instruments came to life, and an exterior view swum into life in front of him on the inside cover of the hatch, readouts and the HUD coming to life on his helmet visor and around him in his line of sight. The hum of the UHD batteries energising the artificial muscle-system of the GEAR became a background note, and the bay crew directed him out of the stall, and he gave a thumbs-up with the GEARs hand as he followed the directions toward the front of the bay, where he waited for the others close to the front of the bay.

2014 - the world is exhausted after almost two decades of continuous war.
Vast swathes of the planets surface; including areas of Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia are irradiated wastelands, while other places are contaminated with the fallout of biological and chemical weapon exchanges.
The United States is divided by a brief civil war that has left the country divided along ragged lines.
Russia is split into kingdoms now ruled by former military officers, politicians or mafia families, now styling themselves as kings.

The remaining governments of the world cautiously struggle to rebuild their societies and links with their neighbours, and to sift through the remains and ashes of the world in the hope of building society back up from the wreckage of the Third World War.
Across the globe, scattered remnants of military forces struggle to return home, or to stay together with a lack of communication from their commanders, and with a lack of supplies.

In the ruins of the Pacific, other forces stir - extremist groups, right-wing organizations and other organizations have seized equipment and weapons from weaker or poorer nations, from abandoned caches and cargo vessels, or have purchased it from those looking to make profit or simply survive, and have begun to roll across the island nations of the area, executing plans and visions of their own with little organized opposition to their firepower.

And behind the scenes, pulling the strings, enemies and threats from the war are still active, biding their time and influencing the course of the groups in play with the aim of carrying out their own plans and ideals for the continuing course of humanity, hinging on advanced technology also located in the area, and thought to be hidden from curious eyes.

In the midst of all of these are a few souls, people in the wrong place at the wrong time through chance. Simply looking to get home or to survive without any further incident, they are swept up into events beyond their control, while on the horizon the flames of war are being stoked once more, as the exhausted and hastily reassembled national military forces begin to put into motion a task-force, having the knowledge of some of these events.

The war might be over, but peace is still a long way away...
The central idea of the RP will be that a small group of military or para-military people will be in the South Pacific, originally stuck there after the conclusion of combat operations due to breakdowns in the chain-of-command and logistics, communications and such, following the chaos of the Third World War. You'll have supplies and equipment you've scavenged, as well as transportation. Through the machinations of the plot, these warriors will end up involved in a plot by a heavily militarised ideological extremist group, who have scavenged, purchased, stolen, jury-rigged and otherwise assembled themselves a working - and powerful - military force in the region with the aim of claiming land and power for themselves, and carrying out their goal of 'purifying' the region of 'undesirables'. I'm pretty much imagining them to be white supremacists, and probably following some form of neo-Nazi ideology.

Behind the scenes and likely without their knowledge, they are being manipulated by another group, the information about which remains unknown to the player group until they uncover something about it.

The original third world war will have come about due to an alternate history, wherein the Cold War extended into the 1990's, and resulted in a number of increasingly large scale 'proxy wars' between the Soviet Union and the West, before erupting into a large-scale conventional war in Europe and South-East Asia, that later became a limited NBC exchange. Many areas of Europe including many national capitals were hit by nuclear weapons or space-based weaponry (developed during the '90's and late 80's), as were parts of the USA. Following this, a number of political groups and dissidents in the US rose up following the destruction and rebelled against the government. Some units of the Armed Forces and reserves also defected to their cause, resulting in a civil war in the country, and a breakdown of chains of command.
Long-range attacks on the Soviet centres of government and military command were undertaken at this time as well, and the Red Army and other armed forces, suffering from lack of supplies, equipment and a general poor state of living, began to abandon their duties, as well as a rising up by the people against their leaders, following the increasing casualties on the population, both from the fighting and their lack of food, shelter and utilities.
The war wound down, rather than ending formally, and many thousands of soldiers, airman, sailors and other people were left in place with no clear orders and chains of supply, and left to find their own way home, as their governments struggled to organize affairs at home. Some went rogue and joined or formed new organizations and allegiances, others sold or abandoned their equipment to make their way home, leading to it being acquired by other groups to engage in violence upon others.

In this world, some things are the same - most of the military equipment and technology are the same, though some prototypes designed during the Cold War made it to full production, while others remained in service for longer, due to necessity, or others have been returned to service due to the need for more equipment to replace losses during the war.
Some other technologies have also been developed due to the perceived need for continued strategic defence and advantages - anti-satellite and anti-missile weapons were developed and realized fully, leading to many satellites being destroyed (and the resulting loss of communications and GPS technology in the current world), and bombardment from space of cities and bases in a few isolated cases.

There will be further specific info on the world, if the game picks up and I get players.

For the most part, the characters will be military personnel in infantry, special forces, or other similar branches of service. People such as SWAT or similar 'para military' or intelligence service operatives are also more than welcome.
You can play someone who is trained as a pilot or armour driver or crewman, but they won't have access to their vehicle at all times, as the emphasis will be on operations on the ground.
The game will be oriented toward finding out what's going on, and engaging in small-scale skirmishes against a much better-equipped enemy.
While the plot may have some 'fantastical' ideas to give it a bit more creative interest and scope (and to keep me interested), the action and military aspect will be very much down to Earth, and a knowledge of military equipment and practices will be most welcome. However, I won't be aiming to keep everything 100% authentic, as that might not be the most advantageous to the setting or plot at times, and the story should win over everything else, of course.

I hope this takes off, as I've seen a couple of military games around, and I'd like to offer my own twist on one, and hope it takes off. Fingers crossed...
Ah, right. I didn't notice that, sorry. I wasn't really suggesting we use it, I just wanted to share it with you all.
I found this on DeviantArt - I know we're all familiar with the map of the world in Ace Combat anyway (or at least, vaguely familiar), but I thought the style of this one was nice.

It's okay, I like a challenge - and besides, it fits the 'emergency' sort of aspect well, if the powers-that-be are sending aircraft that are unsuitable into the battle, as it's a time-critical matter.
I'm sure I'll get to bomb something later on anyway. I just prefer air-to-ground to air-to-air!
Argh, I'm going to need a new plane if we keep having air-to-air missions >.< My Corsair is too slow and lacking in the right kind of firepower.
Scott listened quietly, a look of concentration on his face throughout the briefing. The news about the advanced aircraft was pretty bad; their current aircraft were no real match for such beasts, and he had doubts that even something more modern would've been a contest. Once again, he was surprised and shaken by how rapidly technology advanced in the face of war, and how said it was that it seemed to be the only place innovation really sprang up.
The immediate mission was the next piece of information, and he took copious notes as the commander advised them of their objectives: a straightforward (yeah, right!) sweep of the skies above Oured. While his plane wasn't made for air-to-air, it wasn't a slouch either, and would certainly be capable of taking on the bombers, if not their escorts. The comment about afterburners made his grimace though - the A-7 was likely the slowest plane in the unit, being sub-sonic and not possessed of an afterburning engine, and he'd drag the group down at this rate. All the same, the mission had been briefed and the old saying went: Plan the mission, fly the plan. It was there to take into account unexpected events, and it was a tactical pilots' job to react to changing situations.
The lights went back up, and he followed the others out of the room, lost in thoughts both of the mission, and the rapid changes in the world.
The scale of attacks was frightening, from what they'd been told: Numerous cities and installations attacked by a group in possession of advanced aircraft, and nobody claiming responsibility for them. Shaking his head, he followed the others back in the direction of the operations centre with the aim of swapping his flying gear for a new set, and loading up on water and energy bars before heading back out to the flight line - time was at a premium, and while he'd love to have had the luxury of a shower and a break, this was a rolling situation. No doubt a state of emergency had been declared, and they were either under war conditions or a hairs-breadth away from the same, and that meant a changing of the rules - and a lot of days and nights with little sleep or rest. All the same, if global peace was at stake, it was his job to do what was needed.
