The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Well, it's fortified, innit? With various constructed defensive works, such as barricades and heavy weapons positions, as well as various vehicles and whatnot. Enemy GEARs, and vehicles would be concentrated there, as well as their communications gear. I'm not really sure how else you want me to describe it, or elaborate. We're not facing a military force, and it's a training exercise, after all. And if I just tell you exactly what you're going to see each time, you might as well just copy and paste everything from this topic into your own posts.

Repeating it for Cartsy. ;P

I thought it was pretty clear from the earlier IC posts. It's a fortified civilian structure, a former farm and its' related buildings that's been taken over by the opposition force to use as a HQ. The main point of the recon is to establish their numbers, where the 'hostages' are, and what defences they have.
You can decide that stuff if you like - though remember the oppo force is representing bandits and renegades rather than a military force, so most of their stuff is likely to be improvised and older models than current military-spec gear and equipment.
Does it keep getting eaten by the board?
Ridlins has dropped out, saying they're not interested any more, so Winter - yer back in the game :)
I'll put your CS in the OP, and once this training exercise is over, I'll introduce you and Slypheed at the same time. Sorry you have to sit tight for a bit, but introducing you both right now would be a litle disruptive to things. Still, we shouldn't be too long if this pace keeps up.
Aristo, that's fine - I was expecting you to do just that, and it'll keep things moving smoothly.
I would've replied earlier - but no e-mail notifications to let me know you'd replied! >.<
Sure, if it's extant tech, then I have no problem with it at all. The caliber fits nicely, and if your GEAR is designed as a GEAR-buster then it works in that regard too. It's also a significant threat to most other things too, short of a Landcruiser or head on against an MBT... but then, if any of us are throwing ourselves in front of MBT's, then we're doing it wrong anyway.
I've sent Ridlins a message, since we haven't heard a peep from him/her on GEARs for over a month, despite their posting in other threads. If they are dropping out, then I'll hand that spot over to you, and introduce your character and Slyp's at the same time.

Regarding the armament, yeah - if you wouldn't mind dropping the railguns to something like saboted cannon of some kind - they'd have to be significantly smaller caliber than tank guns, as GEARs are too small and light to handle the recoil from 100+mm cannon. But you could go for something like an Electrothermal propellant cannon to get an increased speed, or rocket-assisted projectiles or something at around 60-70mm or so? That'll give more than enough whack for anti-GEAR ops.
I'm going to edit my post anyway, as I've contradicted my own plan, and I did realize I hadn't given you anything to do, so I'll amend it to include that as well. I'll probably send you off to give the Recon team fire support with those GEARs.

EDIT: I've edited the post to give Ken some orders, and to solve the contradictions in my own post :P
"Then don't fall behind Romeo"

"Roger, Mirage," grunted Scott as he coaxed the wounded and limping Corsair into another attack profile. "I might have to get out and push, though, over".
As he steered the jet toward the bombers, he saw the arrowhead shape of the Draken overtake him, and angle toward the bombers. Discretion was the better part of valour, and he'd gathered enough feathers for his cap today. Fighting the wounded A-7 into another attack wouldn't bring him back to his wife and son alive, so he nosed up for altitude and to plot his next move. Then the AWACS call came in, and he strained an ear as he listened.
<< Based on the bearing and altitude of the bomber, we have been able to confirm that it is most likely armed with a nuclear weapon. None of your planes or allies in our airspace are capable of intercepting the bomber. You are all required to evacuate the airspace immediately! It seems the Yukes and Stovies are doing the same, so don't pay any mind to them and leave as quickly as possible!>>

His blood turned to ice-water in his veins as he heard the words and he gulped, throat suddenly dry. He, like all of them most likely, had read the reports from the veterans of the Belkan War of flying in the Nuclear Environment. It hadn't been something he'd ever anticipated, but then what sane person would? But then, this likely wasn't the actions of a sane mind.
Uttering a tight-voice 'roger' at the command to reverse direction and escape from the area, he coaxed the Corsair, trailing black smoke, into a shuddering turn, fighting the plane to gain as much altitude as possible - if the engine gave out, and the blast was nuclear, maybe he could ride the wave and glide part of the way back. Either way, he didn't want to be too close to the ground if the plane was tossed about like a leaf, or his systems gave out through sheer abuse from the forces unleashed.
"This is Romeo," he reported nervously. "Aircraft isn't looking so good, those hits really did some damage. I'm trying to get altitude to keep it clear of the ground. Bracing for shocks, over".
Making sure his course was away from the predicted impact point, he slid the shaded visor of his helmet down into place, locking it. He didn't want to be blinded by the flash, either. Grimacing against the bile in his throat, he gripped the stick tight and prepared for the worst.
With another dance of fingers across the translucent floating icons of the C3i system, Blade drew the strings of his plan together. With the sensor fusion abilities of the system, he'd kept a clear eye on the ranges of the targets and the positioning of his people, and the ranges of their weapon systems.
"Colonel Blade, sir. Kradis here. Where do you need us?"

"Prepare to fire and maneuver. We'll hit the hostile formation hard, and then reposition to support the recon team as they advance. Maxwell, designate targets for Kradis for a Javelin strike. Rest of my team, stand to; we'll advance as Kradis fires, and intercept the bandits moments after the missiles hit. Nawlin, open fire just before they hit - get them nice an' confused for our attack".
"Colonel. Requesting orders?"

"Form up on me. I'll open up with my mortar on the move. Give suppressive fire as we advance. Nawlin, use the suppressive to change position and fire again. We wanna hit them as much and as hard as possible".
"Maxwell, change position - head over to the hostiles sighted by the recon time and give 'em fire support. Free 'em up to press on and get the recon data on the enemy base position!"
Rising from its' crouched position, the Harlock bounded into motion, legs churning powerfully as the GEAR advanced across the broken, empty terrain. Moving toward the enemy formation, he used hand signals to the rest of the group along with him to spread out into a line, and approach the small convoy laterally, maximising the number of vehicles open to their firepower. On cue, as the counter clicked down to the Javelin impact, he opened up with a volley of mortar shells. Two HE and two AP, targeted precisely in an airburst around the convoy - or, they would have been, if it hadn't been a simulation anyway. Instead, the sophisticated simulation plotted the trajectories and explosive effects, and knocked out the corresponding systems on the vehicles through electronic lockouts.
"Fire, fire, fire!" he urged the rest of the team. "Press 'em and don't let up!"
Stuttering, half-hearted fire returned from the convoy, straggling and in disarray.
At the position of the second group of hostiles closer to the recon team. the three ramshackle modified GEARs paused, and then began to head for the position of the ambush staged by the assault team, still with no acknowledgement they'd seen any trace of the recon unit.
