The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

My friends and I have been watching/snarking over the original Gundam series lately, and the Macross theme reminds me of that show's opening - somewhat bizarre and extremely cheesy XD

Ah, poor old 0079 - It had a great story, and was literally a trend-setter as the first real robot anime. But the animation was done on the cheap, and a lot of it was farmed out, so it has some utterly awful moments in it, and the music and sound effects are cringe-worthy. The movie compilations are a bit better, but it hasn't stood the test of time very well, sadly. But at least it had a lot of sequels in the same universe that patched things up nicely.

hear ya; every OP nowadays has something like "...Fighting to protect the ones we love, with fistfuls of burning passion; blah, blah, blah, something about destiny; -insert bad English here-..."

Every Anime Opening Ever

Oh, I had better ask before I forget. Is it Selachi or Selachai? The hider says one thing, but it's spelled the latter way almost everywhere else and I just wanted to be surely sure.

I probably meant to spell it the latter way everywhere, but since I was rushing a bit when I did the hiders, I likely mis-spelt it. I'll edit it now, since I've got to add Minder's character to the list.
I always kind of felt that the ending of Macross Zero was result of sreally still likeof Kawamori writing himself into a corner. The message was kind of anti-war, so I guess a massive battle was a bit contradictory. And it also had to fit into the time line before the original Macross, so I suppose it would have to be a bit vague.
Some of the events are explained a bit more in Macross Frontier. I do really like Zero though.
The Robotech one is a lot more orchestral and sweeping, and the Macross one is kind of cheesy... but I do love the Firebomber cover of the Macross theme and the visual editing in that anthology video.
I'd have to say on the whole though, that Macross's music is better than Robotechs (vocal music I mean!) Though some of the stuff from the New Generation isn't too bad... Minmay's songs are pretty terrible though >.<;;

EDIT: also, the Shadow Chronicles version of the fanfare is pretty good too!
She's fine, gladly approved. I'll add Tashia to the list of confirmed characters shortly.
That marks enough characters to start, so I'll start working out an opening scene to get us moving, and have something up tomorrow during the day.
In the meantime - here's the original Macross Opening Theme redone with modern animation techniques, and a few extra scenes!

And, for the sake of it, here's another video with a
cover of the same song, and scenes from all of the Macross anime, and even a few of the games!
Hey, it wouldn't be one of my games if there wasn't an essay to read through :P and besides, you all said it was one of the things that made it worthwhile last time.
That would look hilariously ridiculous xD
Eyepatches are so cool, the coolest thing would be wearing two!

...wait, hang on.....
*fanfare* Confirmed characters are now added to the Opening Post! Huzzah!
Wow, great to see you've all been busy!

Ramzam, your character is great, I like him already. I can imagine he and Irry would probably be friends already.

Rafale, old chumly - your character is fine; if you have a backstory for ms. mysterious and how she got where she is, could you PM it my way (if you haven't already!) she's definitely approved otherwise though.

Aristo, your character is brilliant. I dig a girl with an eyepatch. I think, give Gabe's backstory, that we need to have some kind of connection there, even if it's an unknowing one.
Also, I mentioned Robotech-enhanced Tomcats in Gabe's background... they totally had to have done the same thing to MiG-29's or Flankers.

Youngest again it seems. Well, let's hope that this time people don't instantly label my character as annoying/cocky/whatever, unlike a certain other flight RP that I played...

That was more because of how smug and superior he was, and how I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG he was as well, than his age >.< it was remarkably frustrating!
As long as she's not like that, it'll be fine :P
Name: Iriana 'Irry' Jacquo
Age: 29
Race: Sentinel
Species: Olthranan, Red Panda.

Personal Info:
Twinkle-eyed, and cheeky-smiling, Irry looks almost impish and playful, even when tooled up in her combat harness. However, behind the visage rests a sharp mind and cunning wits.
Always something of a mischievous trouble-maker, she does nonetheless mean to do well, but has poor impulse control on occasion, leading to fights or problems with items from supplies occasionally vanishing, or Irry ending up where she's technically not supposed to be. It's not that she has a problem with the structure or authority of the military, she just gets curious and impatient, and sometimes that blots out everything else.
However, when the going gets tough and the chips are down, she'll pitch in and do her part, and she does believe in doing the right thing and helping people, and is willing to listen to people with more skill and experience than her - something she knows that there are an abundance of, despite her own prowess.
Otherwise, she is somewhat strong and bold in her personality, and is not afraid to talk to others and try to make friends, or to ask questions and get involved. She has a naturally fun-loving disposition, with little time to waste on those who are short-mannered, or otherwise lost in gloom and doom and their own opinions. She is not unkind or does not care, but is more of the opinion that life is too short, and there are bigger problems, and that one must take an active hand in making things better, both for yourself and others.

Personal History:
Irry was always an inquisitive and rambunctious girl growing up. Full of energy and a crafty intelligence and a twinkle in her eye, she was the kind of little girl who'd always have a torn dress and a scraped knee from beating up boys and climbing trees (well, more trees than normal, anyway).
Always going where she shouldn't and getting into trouble, she was loved dearly by her parents, but frequently drove them to their wits end as well.
Sending her to boarding school didn't help, and only made her a ringleader in her mischief, which grew in it's complexity and scope.
For her part, it wasn't that she wanted to be naughty, so much as she loved the thrill and excitement of knowing she was doing what she wasn't supposed to, and the challenge of coming up with schemes and not being caught.
She also loved the physical activity, and found it more mentally stimulating than being in classes or doing 'girl stuff', as she put it.
When she discovered boys, things only got worse, and alcohol added fuel to the fire. It wasn't long before she started getting into fights and serious trouble, though she always felt remorse for hurting others, and only ever fought after being provoked or to look after others - unfortunately for her, she had a hair trigger, and a habit for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Frustrated by her repeated trouble, her parents sent her off to military school, which she went to with some willingness. Doing well, she found the challenge refreshing - and a new opportunity to mess with the rules. However, her instructors were hard on her, and managed to curb and channel her behavior.
From there she found her way into the military, and from there the Special Forces detachment after showing her smarts and cunning, and her willingness to be bold and test the rules and limits, and her prowess as an aggressive fighter. She was trained in the piloting and operation of an Alpha.

Name: Gabriel 'Struck' Strucker
Age: 33
Race: Human
Species: Terran Human

Personal Info:
Gabe is a romantic and a daydreamer. He is a cheerful type, often using a blunt quip to take the bleak edge off of situations, and treating everything that comes his way with a mixture of head-on confrontation and cool, laid-back humour - even if it does faze or surprise him.
This is somewhat of a front, as he knows that however good you are and hard you train, there's always someone out there gunning for you who's better, and one day the golden BB will find it's mark. In the meantime though, he does the best he can, and tries to live life well and to the full.
Friendly, charismatic and somewhat cocky, he is easy to like and gets along well with most people, and tries not to let his problems show. While seeming superficial and lacking in connection with others - especially women - he does have a surprising amount of understanding and depth, which he lets show when it's needed.

Personal History:
Always looking forward, Gabe was a kid with his head in the clouds. Easy going but driven to explore and go higher and faster in all things, he was a kid - and an adult - who pushed the boundaries and bent the rules, but was always where the action could be found at the right time.
Possessed of a strong personality that others followed, he did well in school, though his teachers always commented that he day-dreamed. Once he found out about planes, and about girls, that was it for him: There was no other option than the UN Naval Air Forces
After enlisting and training, he fought in several major engagements in the third world war, piloting F-14 Tomcats. His prowess and quick-thinking got him promoted, and he was tipped for a top-billed slot until the Macross fell.
After the chaos was sorted out, he was quickly assigned to test and evaluation programs, which soon took on active duty roles too. He flew F-14++ KAI Tomcats for a brief period, before becoming part of 'Project Valkyrie', and piloting some of the first operational sorties of the VF-0 in combat.
He was transferred to the Macross Air Wing only a week before launch, and flew his first squadron sortie in combat after the disaster of the fold-jump. Several of his pilots died, and he blames himself, despite the utter chaos of the situation. He hopes to make amends with the mission with the Sentinels, and feels his edge is slipping after so many narrow escapes.
