The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

I haven't heard from him - I'll give him til tomorrow, and then send a PM his way to see where he's got to.

EDIT: A bit of a look at his previous posts reveals he's said it's finals week, hence his quietness. I imagine he'll drop in shortly to say something and catch up.

Just in case you might have missed it Silver, let me know when you want us to enter as enemy reinforcements.

I'll be on it this evening!

I am expressing interest for when there is a opening

I'll add you to the list - at the moment, everything looks pretty good for our player group, but as soon as something happens, i'll let you know.
I'd open up the int-check again as well - you might net a few more players, which will keep things going a bit stronger as well. And it's a good time in terms of the story as well, since we're about to land at a new base and all that jazz.
You're more than welcome to advertise in GEARs for more players, especially.
It's my go-to strategy session music. The 'making of' version is even better.
I have other tracks in mind for when we get into some truly epic confrontations (if we get that far).
Nuuuu!! ;_;
It's like a nervous tic or something. Maybe he puts it on because people expect it. ;-)
Jeez, Incubus, hard to please much? The first half of the mission you were whining about not being a scout or in close combat, now I've put you in close combat you're whining about not being a sniper. I'll be sure to do that in the next sortie so Mike can then whine about not being artillery or a helicopter or something.
I did look at everyone's GEAR sheets before I planned the op.....

Lol.. Silver go take a peek in the State of Disarray OOC.

I should put that in my sig or something. I really want it to take off across the forum now. I'll feel like I'm internet famous xD

Re: this game, I apparently just needed to have a conversation with my good friend Johnnie Walker to make a good post, and now I'm excited about getting into the battle. A bit of the eva soundtrack, and we have an exciting post of battle-planning strategy, complete with music! GO TEAM!
Blade had motioned the Harlock into action, up and over the hill and to meet the remainder of the team, as they'd reported in their situation. Bringing the team to a halt, he listened to Ken's report, scratching the bridge of his muzzle, before he produced a cigar from one of his vest pockets, and bit it, unlit, in his muzzle as he considered the situation as the helo pilot reported.
The triple-a and SAMs are our primary concern. If we don't take them out first, then Ken's out of action, and we can't deliver our strike team unless they've got security. Same with pullin' out the hostages after too: we need a secure airspace to make sure they get out. We can hit 'em at long range with arty, but we need precision this time. That takes accurate shots on target...
Pulling up his C3I interface once more, Blade worried the cigar from one side of his muzzle to the other as he studied the statistics and crunched numbers. Finally, he switched onto the squad-wide freek and spoke to everyone in a low and fast tone, brimming with enthusiasm and unwavering confidence.
"Okay, team, lissen up. Y'all kicked ass hard in the first round. We left the beegees hurtin' an' angry. They're gonna be lookin' ta make us look stupid the second time around - but we're gonna leave 'em hurtin'. Thanks ta Ken's eagle-eye action we got a good handle on what we're up against."
He opened a datalink channel to the other squad members and fed them the battleplan as he drew it up.
"So, this is what we're gonna do. The primary targets for our assalt will be the SAMs and other triple-A. Secondaries will be the anti-armour teams and the GEARS. The beegees don't have any airpower in theatre, so Ken's one of our assets if we can knock out those guns an' missiles. So - Adrian and Shona, y'all will be our sharp-shooters. To that end, Nawlin an' Raisa - y'all will head up the advance an' act as spotters to feed target info ta our long-guns here. Y'all will advance usin' the cover ta the south. Ta cover yer advance, the rest o' us will launch an assault from the south-west, an' target the hostile vehicles and th' infantry. Nawlin an' Raisa, once th' target data's passed on an' th' AAA is outta play, y'all hit the GEARs in a close assault, which'll be timed wi' our sweep inta th' AO, an' a precision strike from Ken on the hostiles remainin'.
"The decisive factor in this op will be movin' fast, an' hittin' hard. All of this needs ta happen within mere seconds of each other - we can't delay, or else they'll have time ta rally their defence, and we'll be, ta put it bluntly, fucked like whores on a cold Northern Night. We gotta move like greased lightnin' here. There's no room for error - move fast, and hit hard! Ask any questions y'all have now. "
He paused for a moment, before speaking with a more conversational and fathely tone.
"I'm impressed by what y'all have done so far. I know we ain't worked together yet, but y'all have shown me a will to do well, and y'all are sure as hell damn good fighters. I know y'all can do this, an' I'm gonna be in there in th' shit wi' the rest of ya!"
Without further ado:

Name: Switchback

Group Affiliation: Autobot

Appearance: On the left.

Sub-group: 'Diplomatic Corps', aka Autobot Special Operations Unit C13

Function: Forward Scout and Armed Reconnaissance

Bio:
Switchback has a reputation for unfailing curiosity and an joi de vivre that is unmatched only by the likes of Hot Rod for exuberance. His is an urge to explore and experience the variety of the universe, from his compatrior mechanoids and Transformers and all their race has to offer, to the multitude of organic life forms and their various cultures and ways of life.
His curiosity - and respect - for these other races and their customs has lead him down the road of being something of an expert on other species cultures, and in observation and first contact with other species, often with the purpose of warning and readying them for attack from the Decepticons, or attempting to gain support for the Autobots in the form of allies.
Of course, beyond this, his role is more nebulous and shadowy, and is one of observation, reconnaissance stealth and quiet action against the enemies of Autobot High Command. Assassinations, raids on supply lines and camps and other vulnerable positions, as well as long-term recon and intel gathering operations, often far from Cybertron and other Autobot territories, with only a few allies and partners, most often changing from operation to operation, and their contact being a 'handler' known only by a codename and their stellar co-ordinates.
Switchback's operations so far have been a mixed bag - while he has some level of success, despite being a relatively new recruit to C13, he does tend to have a rebellious streak, and a notable reluctance for cold-blooded killing and what could be seen to some as 'amoral' decisions or undertakings, and a sense of personal nobility and heroism about his actions. While this is laudable, the practicality and effectiveness of it could be questioned.
Despite this aspect of his personality, he does have a tendency to inspire loyalty and passion in his comrades and allies, which has been noted as a useful quality, and he is a ferocious and tenacious fighter when the odds are against him, and has a cunning and canniving ability to plan for battle, and a willingness to disregard his own safety to ensure the safety and security of others. This more than anything exemplifies his dedication to duty and the letter of the Autobot code. Should he survive his demanding assignments and his penchant for dangerous odds, he has the potential to go far in the ranks of the Autobot Army.
Alternate Mode: Switchback transforms into an all-terrain four-wheeled armoured 'dune buggy'-esque fast attack vehicle, equipped with light weapon systems and a comphrensive sensor suite. This vehicle has a respectable off-road speed of over 80mph, and is capable of crossing even the roughest terrain at considerable speed, as well as reaching almost 100mph plus on paved surfaces.
Weaponry and other Capabilities:
Fitting his role as a scout and special operations operative, Switchback is equipped with only a small number of weapons, but they are hard-hitting.
His primary weapons are a pair of forearm-mounted Particle-Lance guns, which are capable of punching through armour at close range, and causing considerable damage at medium range. They also have a cutting setting.
Additionally, he is also equipped with a close-combat knife, which has a 'charged' blade that increases it's ability to cut through dense materials, but drains the built-in battery quickly, requiring it to be returned to a 'charging point' on the rear of his waist at regular intervals.
Befitting a scout, Switchback also has a comprehensive suite of communications and sensor-tracking equipment, such as night and thermal imaging equipment, scrambling and de-scrambling communications arrays and links, and other exotic and esoteric sensors.

I'll provide a more intimate personal history as our character get to know each other, and as I work out the history of the Cybertronian war and races as it works in this setting as we go along, if that's cool? I figure that'd work out well, considering you said you're only familiar with the movie-verse, and your character would equally not be aware of the transformers as a species either?
