The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

As the first shots tore into the SAM emplacements, Blade used a simple hand-signal from the GEAR to get the team moving. Bounding forward, before engaging his drive-wheels, the Harlock moved fast, zig-zagging as he headed in.
"All units," he messaged to his group via laser-com as they moved fast, "pop smoke and chaff as we move in; coupled with the ECM/ECCM then it'll confuse the sensor reflections and make visual aquisition hard. Anything that'll but us an advantage".
That said, as they approached within shooting range of the compound, the Harlock spammed out chaff, flares and smoke, as well as a quick barrage of smoke shells from the autoloading mortar and a series of EMP/Chaff shells, effectively blanketing their approach.
Leaning hard around the approach, the vulpine targeted the nearest section of troops and blitzed them with a barrage of head-mounted chaingun fire, hammering their vehicle with the carbine, and shifting targets rapidly, pinning the enemy in place with the blitz-like pace of the attack.
"Hammer 'em!" snarled the fox. "Keep up the pressure and don't let off! Stand ready to split our force to engage the GEAR unit at the first opportunity!"
The green markers of infantry and vehicles quickly - and brutally - shifted from green to represent 'active' targets to red to denote 'dead' targets. The front courtyard of the HQ was rapidly turning into a killing ground, with the triple-A turrets remaing active - until the sniper-spotter team fired again. The GEARs were the next targets though, and would prove the challenge.
"Ken, get ready to move. We'll be counting on you to hit hard, over!"
I didn't actually know that they'd changed their musical style or their name - I'm pretty bad at keeping up with music in general, so I hadn't heard. I don't really listen to dubstep, but I'll have to look them up and see what I think.
Ok, that makes it all very clear and straight forward, thanks!

And Slyp, I really like Pendulum. I don't listen to them often, but I do enjoy their stuff. They do good remixes too.
I have a few questions to understand how our command structure works - General Resource are currently providing the roof over our heads (so to speak), and the briefing, etc. for our characters.
Now, given that the Peace Games are presumably out the window, and many of our characters are with national air forces, are we taking orders from the GR folks, who are a private corporation, because of some order with our nations' command structures?
I'm guessing also that the NUN is like the United Nations of some kind? I couldn't find a reference to it in the opening post with the info, and it's confused me a bit. Just trying to work out what's going on from the organizational angle.
Having stood quietly and politely out of the way until the de-briefing/briefing was finished (and having snuck in quietly late, after it had begun), Vigdis stepped forward, feeling a little self-conscious now that the spotlight was on her.
The tall and statuesque short-haired Nordennavic woman snapped to parade-perfect attention and saluted the room, ice-blue eyes straight ahead.
"Sir! Vigdis Lorenson, reporting for duty. It will being my pleasure to serve with you all!"
Relaxing the salute a little, she gave a flashing smile of white teeth and nodded. "A pleasure to be meeting you," she added after a moment. "I am sorry to hear of Romeo, and hope I can be as good as he was, and that I am as goot as the rest of you".
Standing back to ease, she nodded, having said her bit, and looked from face to face for the reactions to her introduction. She hoped she'd made a good impression on her new comrades, though they looked a good bunch.
Yeah, as long as you enjoyed it!

The Viggen is not the most up-to-date of aircraft, but it's performance and capabilities have kept it a competitive aircraft over the years. Capable of supersonic speeds, and a good dogfighter as well as impressive at low altitudes, due to it's large wing and canard configuration. A huge single engine gives powerful thrust response, and good control authority, and an impressive array of weapons give the Viggen a lot of options for a sortie

-Max 30 SDM across two wing hardpoints, in 6 pods on multiple adaptor racks

SP Weapons:
-AIM-9L Sidewinder (QAAM x 4)

-AGM-65 Maverick (XAGM x 4)
-Heavy Rocket Pods (RCL x 2)
-Unguided Bombs (UGB x 12)
-RBS-15 Anti-Ship missile (LASM x 2)
-A single large drop-tank can be carried on the central fuselage pylon

Vigdis' Viggen is coloured in a traditional Splinter Camouflage pattern.

In Depth Physical Description:
Pale-skinned and with somewhat 'elfin' like many people from her homeland, Vigdis also has some genetic ancestory from elsewhere in her build and appearance. Tall and long-limbed with a slender physique and large hips, she is has the blessing of good genes to thank for her lack of weight and trim health.
Her face is similarly light-looking, with a pointed chin and jaw, and very light cheekbones, and a small 'button' nose, but large bright blue eyes that easily convey her expression.
Vigdis keeps her hair practically short and neat, in an almost masculine style. That said, she does not shy away from other 'feminine' aspects of her dress and style when relaxing off-duty.

Personality:
Vigdis personality is very much the typical Nordennavic character at first glimpse - jovial, talkative and near-always smiling, with a quietly wicked sense of humour and fun, and eagerness to try new - and frequently hair-raising - things, and take them as though it is nothing out of the ordinary, and having a temper that is slow to rise. While all of this is true of her, combined with a friendly and outgoing aspect and a dedication to her duty, she is also one for skirting the edges of authority and pushing boundaries to get the job done, an attitude likely picked up from her former flight instructors and squad-mates.
Her attitude can often be a double-edge sword, and can lead to her getting herself and others in trouble, and to a lack of trust from higher echelons of command, and can lead to her rushing into dangerous situations that might otherwise be avoided, and to often acting without thought or properly utilising the skills of those around her, or of her aircraft in the most effective way, instead going for the most immediate result.

History:
Vigdis' mother and father were not from a military background, and in fact none of her family had really served in any capacity. Both parents worked in the wide open forests of Nordennavic as park rangers and forestry surveyors, overseeing the logging companies and ensuring they followed the legal procedures. As such, she rarely saw them, and spent a large amount of time in the wilderness. Many times she saw RNAF fighters and other aircraft on manoeuvers, and admired them from afar, captivated by the way they flew through the skies, and the power they showed. This fascination only grew when she saw them on live-fire exercises (from a distance, of course), and witnessed the power of the aircraft as they unleashed weapons on ground targets with seeming impunity.

As she grew up, this fascination remained with her, much to the despair of her parents who had hoped to raise a similarly peaceful daughter to their own lifestyle and ideals. However, they didn't hold her back either, and offered their support, albeit in a reluctant manner. Vigdis enjoyed her high-school life, and enlisted the day after her prom, taking a military-sponsored college education, and earning a degree in World History and Politics, before joining officers school and earning a place on the flying program.

Her skills soon emerged as an air-to-ground specialist, and she was noted early as having particular talent in pressing attacks against dangerous targets, though was equally noted for her lack of attention in some dangerous situations. Nonetheless, the CO of the Beowulf squadron (a Nordennavic combat training unit that uses exchange pilots who've had real-life experience to train their pilots to the best of their abilities, often through challenging and deadly scenarios, with a high drop-out rate) took her under his wing, and seconded her to the Beowulf training regime. She struggled, but under his tuition excelled in performance and was assigned to active duty with a Nordennavic Tactical Fighter Unit.

She has since participated in a number of small peace-keeping operations, but has not seen extensive combat beyond a few small border skirmishes, and a handful of anti-piracy and anti-narcotics operations. Nonetheless her record and performance resulted her in being recommended for the Peace Games, an assignment she plunged into with eager excitement.

No.. Thinking you're old is remembering 2004 was 10 YEARS AGO

No, thinking you're old is realising that people born in the year you started Secondary School (high school) are now 22.

I'm so old.

Seriously doe, hope your burfday was a blast, you had fun, and got neat stuff.
Happy birthday, youngling ;p I hope you have a good day though, and enjoy yourself.
Yeah, I'm kind of sipping whiskey in mine and waiting for something to happen too.
BTW, I have absolutely no idea how to actually win against your strategy. Or what to do with the plot if we don't, considering the idea I had initially was 'win the first engagement, impress the brass enough to let them grudgingly let us continue, and then slowly claw out some respect'.
If we lose, then it's kind of 'fail miserably, and get disbanded'.
