Frontier of the Damned

Colm hesitated to respond to the young woman that addressed him. He was trying to make arrangements for temporary lodging, and was of a mind to reprimand her for interrupting a conversation between men. Her attention quickly came to focus on a rather green looking young man, though, so, he had a glass of whiskey and let it go.

Seemed to be a rather young crowd, so far. He smiled to himself as he wondered how many of them even knew how to play cards, let alone what to do with a saloon girl.

He muttered to himself, "Ní raibh mé ag iarraidh labhairt leat, ar aon nós."

After he finished settling his bill for the five shots he had, and opened a tab for his room, he put his belongings into his room, and locked the door. Colm raised his eyebrows, and grinned as he heard what had to be the local clergy outside. "Well, now, that's a man o' the cloth, if e'er oi heard one!" He walked out the door, rifle still slung on his shoulder, "Come on, now, Father! Oi don't think you're bein' entoirly fair! After all, everyone knows The Lord invented whiskey to stop the oirish from conquerin' the world!" He took a step down to stand level with the man, "The way oi see it, than, oim not engagin' in degeneracy, good sir; oim keepin' the peace, an' doin' The Lord's will!" He smiled wide as he held out his hand to shake.

He was intrigued by the talk of devilry, but he was also building a good buzz as the whiskey settled, so he was more inclined to mischief than investigation at the moment.

I thought someone would be controlling the bartender, but if I'm free to make my own arrangements with an npc, I'll get that out of the way and move on? Somebody attempted to interact with me, but quickly moved on to interact with someone else, so I thinking on how to engage with the game proper...

Takuya Toronaga, aka, "Ten Ton" Takuya

Appearance: Over-weight, despite his athletics. Average height, shoulder length black hair tied back like the Sumo do it.

Favorite School Subject: Gym, despite formerly being a favorite target of the bullying gym teacher.

Why They Fight: For respect, of his peers and his leader.
Background/Personality: Takuya was always "the fat kid". It's why he was such a fan of sumo; nobody pushed them around, they were the one's who did the pushing. But he was always discouraged from rough sports- his mother was too afraid of her precious baby getting hurt, and his father only had time to put him down for not being more interested in soccer or baseball (subtle hints that he was ashamed his son's interest in sports didn't motivate him to lose weight). His bullies, when he still had them, called him "Ten-Ton", as a remark on his weight and appearance. Even his gym teacher joined in when things were at their worst, taking advantage of his position to belittle him and push him around, verbally and physically, always picking on him for being "too soft". His breaking point was 2 years ago, when a particularly nasty bully was coming after him. his "enforcers" called him "Crazy" Kazuki, and he liked knives. Takuya was his favorite target, and he'd often flip around his butterfly knife while wondering quite loudly things like "If I cut you, would I find spiced pork inside you, fat-boy?" The gym teacher was supervising a detention session where Takuya was forced to be in a room with Kazuki when the bully was in a particularly vicious mood. The teacher suggested the boys settle it like men, clearly just wanting to see Takuya get hurt. Kazuki put on quite a performance of acting like whatever he thought "crazy" looked like, eyes wide and tongue hanging out as he charged with his favorite weapon. Takuya panicked, and snapped- He did what he thought a sumo would do, approximated a balanced stance, and leaned into a shove against his assailant's chest- he didn't realize just how much weight he'd put behind the blow, how much strength he actually had. It was only 5 feet distance, from Takuya's position to the window, but he knocked Kazuki the full distance, and smashing through the window. It was only the ground floor, but the window had been closed. He could have been badly hurt, even killed by the breaking glass, but Takuya had reached his breaking point and didn't care. He stood up straight, and gave a cold stare at the other two boys. They'd previously been egging the little monster on, but were dead quiet, now, and when Takuya glanced at each individually, they flinched, hard, terrified that the scariest one in the room tried him and might have just died for it. The gym teacher shouted out, "You little punk, what do you think you're doing!?" He charged to tackle Takuya, who quickly turned to face him- apparently he was good at thinking quickly, because he single handedly lifted up desk, and, leaning his full weight into the strike again, thrust forward, smashing the desk flat against his ugly face! as the teacher fell on his back, Takuya leapt, and sat on his chest, pummeling his face, screaming with each blow, "Who's-soft-now!?" Kazuki survived, despite getting cut up badly (sheer luck none of his injuries required stitches), and the teacher wanted to press charges, but his father managed to pull some strings. Takuya was forced to be held back a year, and perform community service for a time, but nobody picked on him anymore. Kazuki did his best to avoid him, and the teacher was more lenient with him in class. And all the other kids? When they called him "Ten-Ton" Takuya, they weren't laughing anymore. Some of them even started being nicer to him! Especially the smaller, weaker kids, who couldn't stand up to their bullies like he did. He'd gained respect, and confidence, but also lost his own respect for authority. He got bolder, frequently challenging the adults and teachers around them; they didn't respect the kids, and didn't do much to help the one's that needed it, so what good were they? "Ten-Ton" Takuya would make his own way, and anybody who didn't respect that had better get out if it.
