• Personality: Ten years ago, Kageko Nikaidou was a bright and earnest mage student with an eternally sunny demeanour. Nowadays, however, her sunniness has been clouded over by cynicism, and she is a bitter and jaded shadow of who she used to be. Her social skills have degraded just like her magecraft skills due to how little she puts them to use, as she usually only says the bare minimum whenever she has to interact with others, and she barely even leaves her apartment aside from when she needs to buy food and other necessities. Despite this, she's still a fundamentally good person who if push comes to shove would stand up for what's good in this world; it's just that she's so disillusioned that she finds it difficult to not see the world as almost irredeemably rotten and corrupt, and believes that it's not going to change anytime soon.
• Skills: Unlike a lot of mages, Kageko is proficient with modern technology; after all, her lifestyle would be a lot more difficult without online shopping. Living alone has also led her to become a somewhat decent cook; she's no master chef or anything but she does make a mean curry ramen. Whilst her family aren't entirely pleased with how she turned out, they still give let her have access to some of their money as it keeps her out of the way, and thus if she really needs to she can potentially pay for anything she really needs... Although if it ends up costing too much her family might want to have words with her.
• Abilities: Kageko possesses an above average amount of above average quality magic circuits, and an affinity for the Fire and Wind elements. This led her to be highly proficient in lightning and electricity based magecraft back when she was still a student... But her skills have rusted over the past decade due to lack of practice, and thus unless she focuses extremely hard all she can really muster are small static shocks that can potentially incapacitate a mundane human for a short period of time. If she focuses a bit she can toss out a moderately-sized ball of lightning, but it's a little taxing due to how out of practice she is. Whilst she was an exceptional pupil back in the day, she only half-remembers a lot of magecraft theory aside from the basics and might initially have problems when trying to remember how to perform advanced spells. Using her family's connections she was able to obtain a special brand of Mystic Eye Killer glasses; rather than blocking her (non-existent) Mystic Eyes, they instead block Mystic Eyes used against her, as she is somewhat (rightfully) paranoid of any mages coming to meddle in her shut-in life and using charms and hypnosis to force her out of it. Her apartment is reasonably well protected by two Bounded Fields; the first of which is a simple alarm field that alerts her whenever trespassers enter the apartment, and the second is a more complicated perception filter field that she set up (with a little help) back when she moved into the place and was less out of practice; this particular field means that the apartment will just be ignored by anyone who hasn't specifically been given the address, although Servants with Magic Resistance or of the Caster class can easily see through it.
• Brief Backstory: Once a promising pupil of the Clock Tower from the somewhat prestigious Nikaidou family, due to an altercation with another mage family Kageko became disillusioned with mage society. Moving back home to Japan, her disillusionment grew to encompass modern society in general. She became withdrawn and used her family's money to accomodate the lifestyle of a shut-in, barely practicing any magecraft aside from basic spells to make her lifestyle easier. By this point in time, her skills have rusted considerably, and would have continued to deteriorate were it not for her being one of the few local mages in Sako when a new Grail War began...

"Caster" of Red

• Name: Kitab Al-Azif
• Class: Foreigner

• Personality: A smug, haughty and conceited girl who speaks in a somewhat antiquated manner. She is extremely confident in her abilities, boasting that she is the most powerful grimoire in the world and that her understanding of the terrors that lie beyond our reality is second to none; in fact sometimes it might be difficult to tell who is the Master and who is the Servant when she's concerned. However, she notably also has a rather strong sense of self-preservation, and despite her smugness isn't exactly arrogant; if a foe seems like too much for her to take at the time she isn't hesitant to make a tactical withdrawal in order to regroup and plan for a later encounter. Even though she claims to be incredibly old and treats living humans as though they are mere children compared to her, she's actually somewhat immature and will sometimes act in ways that her apparent physical age might imply; notably, she's prone to arguing and bickering with her Master, as well as getting all huffy if things don't go her way.

For the most part, these invocations take a form similar to high powered magecraft, although if given the appropriate time and resources she will potentially be able to summon something much more substantial.

  • Effects: The most infamous and most powerful grimoire of black magic in the world, the Kitab Al-Azif is the original Necronomicon penned by the Mad Arab, Abdul Alhazred. In a sense she herself is a Noble Phantasm, almost like a Reality Marble turned inside-out and made into the image of a young girl; in a way she is similar to the Heroic Spirit Nursery Rhyme, albeit with a more defined existence. Her mere existence is her Noble Phantasm, and she is able to utilize the forbidden knowledge enscribed within her as noted in her "Book of Dead Names" skill. The closest she has to a "true" Noble Phantasm, however, is invoking the most powerful being she is willing to deal with: the Key and the Gate, the All-in-One and One-in-All, the Lurker at the Threshold, Yog-Sothoth. Even then, such is the almost uncontrollable power of Yog-Sothoth that she is only willing to utilize it when there is no other option, and her very existence is at considerable risk whenever she chooses to invoke it. Utilizing its power, Al-Azif creates a rupture in space-time, a great fissure opening into all that is and all that is not, an unimaginable dimension where the fate of all that is caught inside it is unknown... Aside from the fact that it seems to simply cease to exist on this plane of existence. Whether they are destroyed, trapped in a world between worlds or flung to some unknown point in space-time, no-one can tell, and none would wish to find out either.
• Alignment: Chaotic Good
• Changes: A more heroic take on the Necronomicon written by a slightly more heroic Abdul Alhazred (who wrote the book to catalogue the various eldritch gribblies out there in order to help protect mankind against them). As the Necronomicon is far more famous and has made a bigger mark on history than its author, she probably got accidentally summoned when her Master was trying to summon Alhazred himself; objects can be summoned as Servants after all, although she has taken on a more humonoid form as one. Those familiar with visual novels or super robot anime might find this interpretation of the Necronomicon somewhat familiar, mostly because I will freely admit that she is heavily based on (and in fact outright uses the appearance of) Al Azif from Demonbane, something that I felt like I could get away with because once the super robot trappings are removed she still works pretty well in the Nasuverse and because Type-Moon and Nitroplus have a long history of collaborating on projects.

Many people think she comes off as an airhead, and this coupled with her cuteness and squishiness makes others find her supremely non-threatening.

  • Magecraft: Being the child of an ancient lineage of mages, Reina's prowess in magecraft is actually a lot stronger than her personality might imply. She possesses a high level of high quality magic circuits and affinities for both Fire and Water; when threatened she can send out jets of scalding water, streams of liquid flame, clouds of steam and other such combinations. Due to her affinities, she has considerable capability in magecraft relating to both destruction and cycles.

Despite looking like a young girl, Hya-chan (as Reina calls her) is in fact an incredibly old manuscript detailing the Hundred Demon Parade, written in the blood of youkai and bound to a human consciousness. She is able to summon simulacrums of youkai, pale shadows of the real things but still enough to cause trouble for most humans and mages; against Servants, however, all she can really hope to do is hold them off via attrition. Due to both her age and the high standing she has received from the Sakurako family for numerous generations, Hya-chan is somewhat smug, haughty and conceited, and is a little annoyed at how Reina fawns over how "cute" she is.
• History: The daughter of one of the local mage families of Shirakawa. The Sakurako family is actually one of the oldest lineages of mages in the area, although they generally keep to themselves and have no real interest in the politics of other mages, with the most contact Reina has had with the greater mage society at large being her spending a few terms at the Clock Tower. After returning to Shirakawa fron England, she was considered ready to inherit leadership of the Sakurako family's affairs, as well as the Mystic Code Hyakki Yagyo Senki that her ancestors have possessed for countless generations.

Ritsuko really should've done something. She should've at least shouted some words of encouragement, or rushed to help the hostages, or at least tried to throw a suckerpunch at the criminals... Well maybe not that last one, but still. She really should've done more than stand there slackjawed, gazing in amazement at her Servant.

So it kind of bugged her that she was doing exactly that, really. But this was the first time she'd seen Saber fight, and... It wasn't exactly what she expected. She was thinking that a knight would be more... Brutal and inelegant, but the way Saber moved was almost like an elaborately coreographed dance. Or at least one where the lead dancer wielded a huge sword and sliced apart the other dancers. So not entirely like a dance, really. But still, watching her fight was almost hypnotic...
